Thank you so much for this video! Seems like most every other source out there just tells you how to install steam vents, but your video tells me how they actually *WORK*, which I greatly appreciate! :-)

I just installed all new vent right number one in my system. It's nice to be able to control the amount of steam in each radiator.

Good information Thank you..Do all single pipe systems have a main vent?

Very helpful video. Question ....can the main vent be placed 10-15 feet before the wet return drop instead of the 16 inches you recommend?

I figured this would be a good forum to ask a question? My radiator doesn't do any type of knocking. However it keeps cracking the air vents. In 3 years I put two air vents on. Both vents have cracked on the bottoms. Does anybody have any idea why this one radiator keeps having this issue? The radiator is on first floor, approximately 10 ft from the furnace, for which the furnace is in the basement. Any feedback would be grateful. Thank you

Great info! I live in a 100+ year old building. A lot of the air release vents are leaking water. Anybody know if it is a standard NPT thread, like 1/4"?

My super installed a Gorton Straight valve horizontally in my radiator. Is this going to cause problems? Thanks in advance for the answer.

I am wondering what is the difference if you use a #75 instead of a #35. Does the #75 need a higher pressure to close?

Hi Mr. Marshall. My steam radiator wasn't getting hot, and my super saw there was no air valve, so he put on a bullet-shaped air valve. Now when the heat comes on the radiator gets nice and hot, but makes a tremendous amount of noise, very loud hissing and sputtering sounds. Do you think an adjustable air valve like the 2nd one you showed would reduce the noise? Thanks.

Can you please make a video about replacing the main vent on the steam pipe line? At my girlfriends home it spits out a stream of water alot! I have 0 experience with steam systems but do pretty well figuring things out. Theres alot of banging going on as well. It scares the heck out if me at night/ early morning. Thanks so much!

I tried to replace my mainline vent, but it will not come off! I wrenched it so hard and striped the hex grip on it. Nothing seems to work to get the old vent off. Any recommendations?

but how does it work? Is there a volatile fluid that responds to heat against a diaphragm? A float? Space magic?
@mugen-mundo7 жыл бұрын
Actually both. Alcohol inside the bellows expands and closes the vent when heated and acts as a float in the presents of excessive water.

does a steam vent need to be straight up?
@Shwalker076 жыл бұрын
Yes or it will drip water out of the tip of the steam vent and not work properly.

Our radiators are equipped with steam vents does this mean we do not have to bleed them? I am a new home owner and this is all new to me. thanks in adance.
@rorycorcoran59949 жыл бұрын
you don't bleed radiators in a steam system. In a hot water system you do
@Boswd9 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. how often should you replace the steam vents?
@rorycorcoran59949 жыл бұрын
Bill Dineen If you buy a quality vent it can last up to 10 years. As long as it's only letting air past and not steam you're good
