Pakistan Air Force commissioned its first J-10C multi-role fighter jets, after delivery from China. We look at the weapons, sensors and technology aboard the J-10C Vigorous Dragon.
The J-10C brings much improvements over the existing JF-17 Thunder, including a much better AESA fire control radar, latest head-up display unit, the PL-15 beyond-visual-range missile, and the PL-10 short-range air-to-air missile. The J-10C is widely speculated to be a counter to India's new Rafale fighters purchased from France.

One have to know that in todays modern battlefield, it isn't the case of J-10CE vs Rafale or Mki. Its PAF vs IAF. It is a competition of the complete air warfare system, which includes pilot training, discipline, logistics, early warning capability, EW capability etc. Without any of those, you are fighting blind or deaf. In the recent J-20, F35 encounter, while US commented J-20 for flying professionally. The real focus is on KJ-500, being described the integral part of the kill chain.

@Abdul basit lol, with S-400, S-300 and Barak 8, Pakistani pilots wont be even fly in their own airspace. Then comes the iron dome, and an airforce 4 times stronger and qualitatively generation ahead of Pakistan. J10 wasn't even Pakistan first choice, only adopted after F16s and Russian aircraft were denied. Keep dreaming 😁😁

Another good video - It is obvious that Chinese fighters are improving at an almost unbelievable rate and that Pakistan is lucky to be able to buy such aircraft at a third of the cost of western aircraft. If Pakistan sticks with China as a supplier, it will get better fighters all the time. America is not reliable as a supplier as the political wind can reverse direction at any time and they can become your enemy over night.

And fully half of Pakistan's AF is made up of F-16 A/D models from the US. *America is not reliable as a supplier as the political wind can reverse direction at any time and they can become your enemy overnight.* This statement is literally true of most nations as far as diplomatic relations go. However, should relations with the US sour, the Pak AF would lose half its airframes within a year, since they would no longer have access to parts/upgrades for the Falcons. Pakistan's economy is currently in a free fall at the moment, and the IMF will only bail them out so many times before allowing them to become the next Venezuela. Or a Chinese vassal state. If Pakistan can find a leader who can stay in office long enough to enact changes, they might have a chance, but thus far no prime minister has completed a full five-year tenure in Pakistan's 75-year history. So, best of luck with that. The sad reality here is that the various factions within the Pakistani government can't stop arguing with each other long enough to form a proper coalition to get anything done.

The PL-15 used by the PAF is export version which doesn't compromise the datalink (AWACS cuing) and other sensitive components of the PL-15 domestic version if falling into the wrong hands. The J-10C is known to have a small RCS and probably as stealthy as a non stealth fighter can be.

So it sounds like the J-10C is intended to be fielded as the PAF's equivalent of a "High-capability" more cutting-edge fighter fielded in smaller numbers, and the upgraded FC-17s and Block 3s slot into the modestly less capable but still very good and more affordable "low" fighter that forms the backbone of the PAF. Similar to the F-15 and F-16 or Su-27 and Mig-29 analogy in the late Cold War?

6:12 The heads up display and helmet mounted cueing sight are also being integrated in JF-17 Block 3, although the latter might be cut down for Block 4 induction. The data link and all associated modules are indigenous, you can actually spot these on the "spine" of J-10C with an extra protruded antenna which isn't present in PLAAF.

4:32 That's no speculation but a given. However a general reminder that the US has authorized only two states, Isreal and Pakistan to carry and deliver nuclear weapons on F-16. Once J-10C gets nuclear capable weapons installed, PAF will be the only airforce in the world with US and Chinese Aircrafts that will carry nuclear weapons. Very interesting.

Correction: Pakistan uses the export variant of PL15 and PL10. On Zhuhai airshow, PL15 export is stated to have a range of 145km, meaning it probably doesn't have duel pulse motor from domestic PL15. But it does state it has active radar homing, bidirectional datalink, and mid course correction features. This suggests other than the motor, functional difference of PL15 export and domestic is small. But 145km range is still long enough to counter rafale and any other Indian fighter. Electronics plays a huge role in actually enable a target hit. In terms of combat capability of Rafale, the biggest weakness is its radar dome size compared to J10c. If radar technology is the same, bigger radar will deliver more sensitivity and range. Not to mention that all real world signals indicated Chinese radar technology is world class. AESA, GaN modules, etc, the fundamental tech across all Chinese radar, fighter jets, Destroyers, awac, ground radar, missile radar. (Recently, US general was impressed by KJ500's command and control capabilities in an engagement with j20 and f35).

5:06 The Block 3 of JF-17 is rolling out and already has an AESA module in it, which is essentially the same as J-10C functionally. The PESA blocks of JF-17 will be eventually phased out. Again, it is pretty interesting that domestic JF-17 and improved J-10 are both equipped with AESA, which is just a massive leap. India only has a single AESA capable airframe which is the French Rafael while Pakistan has 2. Should be noted that this was always the plan. We delayed the induction of J-10 as much as possible as we wanted to extract as many subsystems of J-10 for our JF-17 Thunder and the AESA radar was one of the main reasons why we held off buying J-10c. Once we had secured AESA for our Thunders, buying the J-10 was a no brainer. Should also be noted that PL-15Es have been mounted on JF-17s as well. The bone of contention was the WS-10A but PAF now seems confident in that power plant. Also please do not take induction of J-20 seriously. We do not need it as of now, and it's role is entirely different to what people believe.

JF17 is in the same weight class as Tejas, its very light, I don't see how it generate enough power for a big radar.

@@stc2828 you're kind of ill-informed and I don't mean it in a disrespectful way, it's a genuine question but could've been framed better. The "light" class has nothing to do with power generation capability. The power draw for AESA is a significant, but not insurmountable challenge. If Tejas doesn't have one, it doesn't mean that no fighter in Tejas class can have AESA, Block 3 has proven it and it's rolling out so I think these issues are silly to even discuss since everything is already set in motion. The architecture of JF-17 from the beginning had space for upgrades like such, so any need for improvement already had been accounted for and the headroom in avionics was always present. Also general reminder that AESA is not always on even in fight at combat altitude because Datalink exists. Infact, you don't even need a radar of your own, you can engage targets off your Datalink. So yeah power issues and lightness of whatever are non issues and frankly, Block 4 should be debated as of now since Block 3 is a reality.

@@stc2828 to add to this, the 'big' radar is also quite not true. AESA module of JF-17 is smaller and less capable compared to J-10C. You can consider it as an entry level AESA module for the sake of brevity, although there's no such thing as entry level, more so dependent on the nodes attached to wafer and it's ratio(track and lock).

@@sjhassjh3941 Quite expected XD Anyways, Meteor> PL15> AIM-120D against high maneuevrable KE targets. PL15 is superior to AIM 120D, it uses better grade propellants with better burn rate by virtue of better calorific value, however no match against Meteor. Meteor employs throttle-able ramjet propulsion which has substantial edge over the conventional dual-pulse solid propellant motors of the PL15. Hence as to why, the Meteor has better optimizable burn rates which could be appropriately throttled to hit a high maneuvering target. Mind you, Meteor has an existing no-escape-zone of well over 60km, opposed to PL15's

There are plans to equip the J10c with the Ra'ad Air lunched nuclear capable cruise missile which has a speed of mach 0.8 and ground hugging capabilities. PAF is planning to integrate the Raad missile with JF17 thunder , the J10c and the ankici drone of turkey

you all need to understand the game of logistics here. For example, can 3 J-10C take out an F-22 raptor? Yes. Very easily. An F-22 raptor costs 227 million per unit. A J-10C costs over 90 million. You do the math.

Being a layman, i think the main difference between JF17 and J10 C would be their role in the air combat. In my opinion JF17 plays the role of intercepter whereas J10C may be used as an attack aircraft.

J10C is a mid-sized air superiority tactical fighter with multi function capability, while JF-17 is more of multi function light weight ‘all-rounder’. Ground attacks will all be handled by JF17.

One thing for sure is Pakistan AF is more efficient than Indian AF. They have better supply chain management. They build JF-17 and J 10C can be maintain internally in Pakistan. India in the other hand will have issues with their Sukhois and MIGs due to embargo. And Rafale is 100% imported so far.

Search up J-9, it was a contender for a 4th gen Chinese jet in the 70s. It’s pretty much a predecessor of the J-10 and was being developed before the Lavi. It was only in the 80s when the west and China got along and started cooperating.

Pakistan needs these jets to keep India honest. I don't think India are too eager to attack Pakistan after the Pakistani Air Force shot down a couple of Indian F-16s a few years ago. Indian government and media lied about the incident but Pakistan showed the down planes and captured pilots.

I wonder if J-10 has better AA capabilities than Rafale, maybe an equivalent strike platform. However overall J-10 would definitely be more easily integratable with Pakistani systems than Rafale would be with Indian systems. Giving an edge in greater IADS. Having said that, what's up with the refueling probe??? I only saw those in the aircraft that landed in the commission ceremony, not afterwards...

Pakistan is bankrupt,out of cash reserves for many reasons. It is presently trying to negotiate more bailouts from the IMF, which have imposed conditions that include reducing government subsidies for food and fuel. To continue, Pakistan may be forced to curtail military spending, such as upgrading fighter aircraft and weapons. Or simply end the nuclear ptogram. Otherwise, with its soaring population, it may face food shortages, like Ethiopia in the 1980s. Modern military coupled with famine. Hope the Chinese were paid in cash.

When you have planes of similar (or comparable) capabilities, it comes down to the pilots, their training and doctrine, and their experience in both the plane itself, and in armed arial combat. Also, as Pakistan is broke at this point and time, concerns about obtaining nuclear weapons and expanding their air force into a high tech (even regional) air force is a fantasy, unless China funds the bill. And China may not be prepared to pour good money after bad at this time.

PAF pilots are far better trained and skilled than IAF pilots pound for pound that is pretty much common knowledge to everyone except perhaps you. Even USAF pilots were highly impressed by PAFs Viper drivers.

@Cpt. Mirza Baig *Pakistan's air force is one of the best in the region. The 2019 Skirmishes back up my claim.* I won't dispute your claim that Pakistan is a decent regional AF, Captain, but the region in question is not really that significant when compared to other regional Air Forces on this planet (i.e. the West.) They literally do not compare. At this point, the Pak AF is armed with airframes that are 40-70 years out of date and hopelessly outclassed by other nations. Also, half of the Pak AF's best airframes are in the form of the F-16 A/D. Should diplomatic relations between the US and Pakistan come to a boiling point, any and all spare parts for those airframes (as well as any future upgrades) will come to a grinding halt, cutting your AF in half within a year. *While it is true the country's economy is in free fall.* I believe that is a fairly accurate summation. And there appears to be no plan to address that, either, as your political parties are busy arguing amongst themselves. The World Bank recently revised Pakistan's growth projections from 4 percent in June of last year to 2 percent for the current fiscal year, citing “a precarious economic situation, low foreign exchange reserves and large fiscal and current account deficits” among the primary reasons. The IMF will only bail out Pakistan so many times before it is forced to allow it to become the next Venezuela. *By the way, I didn't understand "concerns about obtaining nuclear weapons", I am sure you are aware of the fact that Pakistan is a Nuclear Armed state.* I should have been much clearer in expressing my thoughts here. I was speaking "in comparison to" terms. Pakistan, with roughly 165 small-to-medium yield, land and air-based nuclear weapons, can hardly be considered much of a "nuclear armed state" in comparison to the superpowers like the US (5,428) and Russia (5,977). Both powers are considered nuclear triads (air/sea/land), who's missiles can reach virtually any country on the planet via land silos, stealth bombers or nuclear-powered attack submarines, and out mass anything Pakistan can muster. For instance, the LGM-30 Minuteman III is an American land-based intercontinental ballistic missile that is nearly 5 stories tall, costs roughly $US7 million dollars apiece, and contains a 2.1 megaton warhead (about 10 times as powerful as the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in WWII) and can travel approximately 10,000 kilometers. Then there are the submarine launched Trident missiles. You are literally bringing a spoon to a gun fight. The US, with the B-2 and B-21 airframes can bomb without being seen by radar, while Russia, with the T-160, and the US with the B-1, can use speed and elevation to get in and out in a short time frame. Pakistan, along with the countries listed below, have no such delivery systems (or, in comparison, very poor delivery systems.) India (160), the UK (225), France (290), Israel (90) and North Korea (20) also have small yield nuclear weapons but can hardly be considered "nuclear threats" to anyone but other regional states. In comparison to the US and Russia, they are a minimal (if that) threat to world security, and afraid of what the main world superpowers would do if they used those weapons anywhere in the world. *Although Pakistan aims to become a regional air force* They will have a long way to go to get there, especially with the economy in a free fall, as you noted, and the government needing to go, hat in hand, to the IMF for bail-out loans just to keep the lights on in the country. Military upgrades are expensive, running into the billions of US dollars annually, and the upkeep is just as expensive. Having an AF is one thing. Being able to supply petrol and parts to consistently get those airframes into the sky day after day is another conversation altogether. *they are well aware that it will take time, and of course money.* Money is something Pakistan does not have. Time is something everyone has, but as it goes by, and other countries move forward with even more highly technological military hardware, research and development, Pakistan will find themselves decades behind everyone else. This will be even more difficult for them since they are ALREADY 40-50 years behind in fighter technology at this point, and no one plans to sit around while they figure out how to run their country long enough to catch up. At this point, a single wing of F-22s could destroy the entire Pakistan AF (and they would never know they were even there.) *Overall, PAF seems to be realistic, highly efficient and well managed.* I would not go so far as to use the term "realistic." Hopeful, perhaps. While her pilots may in fact be "efficient," the government who runs its military (and thus, the AF) is in charge of its well-being and future and is far from "well managed." I really don't get what's the point of importing J-10C if JF-17 block 3 has ASEA and PL-15. From what I heard KLJ-7A on block 3 is around 1000 T/R modules comparable to APG-77 on F-22, superior to Rafale assuming all else equal. The only downside I can think of is air cool and the smaller engine on JF-17 will limit the continuation usage at high power mode.

J-10C has a higher payload, better maneuverability, greater combat range, higher speed, more advanced subsystems, but also higher maintenance costs. J10C can also carry the PL-21.

Well the Pakistani are just being practical and try to make most their budgets count...The nemesis of Pakistan is India.. No point for Pakistan to invest in more expensive aircraft , albeit western built to counter India air force which is a mixed bag of HAL built aircraft, Western and Russia aircraft. So to buy China aircraft and co-build makes sense...Pakistan has enough aircraft in power ratio to counter India... No point buying western aircraft which often has political bagage plus costly as well

Hey, my dear Pakistani iron-hard friends. Do you all know that the Chinese way to say "cool" is "NIUBI". It pronounces: New-beep. 4:41 Here is a mistake. The Chinese-made satellite guide bombs definitely don't use US-based GPS system. Instead, the system China uses which has exactly the same function as GPS has got a name. It's called: BEIDOU, meaning the Big Dipper.

I dont think I actually said the bombs are Chinese made, but I guess there is an implication. Edit: lost a few subs from this vid, perhaps that could have been why

@@EurasiaNaval You are introducing J-10CE, aren't you? This video isn't introducing F-16, is it? Why do you think the satellite guide bombs that J-10CE uses are not Chinese-made? It doesn't make any sense. Do you imply PAF is going to use US-made GPS guided bombs on J-10CE? If you do mean it, please give proof.

They did the right decision, west is not reliable and put many restrictions and conditions on how to use exported weapons plus the limitations of ammunition supplied. Pakistan needs top, best and most cost effective weapons to manage rival India

In the end i would say its the pilot.. our pilots fly with enthusiasm of being a ghazi or a martyr. It was a great informative video but u didnt discuss the helmet mounted system which helps the pilots just like in raptor. Atleast we should accept that china is in competition with the West.

The much hyped F-35s can now relax one corner once the J-31 is officially in service. maybe time to retire the past-expired F-35 and buy from China. BTW, the J-10 bought by Pakistan is the export CE version, China uses the much more powerful J-10C version in its own Air force.

It looks like the rusian stealth jet mig 41 and like a refeal jet meanacing for sure i heard that ws10 engine didnt have a very long life span compared to other countries why is that it cant be an invantage if they have to be replacing engines evey 1000 hours .
