This is one of the largest military operations in history. Thousands of boats and planes in an assault on French beaches, with more than 150 000 allied soldiers from 13 countries. But we often forget that this dazzling logistical victory in Normandy was less decisive than many other battles against the Third Reich.
So, how and why did the D-Day become a myth, depicted as the "supreme battle" of good versus evil? We tried to understand it with maps and film archives.
