The Arizona Diamondbacks played their first game in 1998 and went on to have a 65--97 season, but just one year later, they got Randy Johnson and won 100 games. Then with the addition of Curt Schilling and Luis Gonzalez they shocked everyone by beating the Yankees in 7 games to win the 2001 World Series in just their 4th year of existence.

Actually the Boston Red Sox were the fastest new franchise to win a World Series. The Red Sox (as the Boston Americans) started in 1901. They won the first World Series against the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1903. That was 3 seasons unlike the Diamondbacks who did it in 4 seasons.

They had the advantage in that there was guaranteed to be an American League participant and the American League itself was created in 1901.

@@SamAronow That's one way to look at it. The other is the Pirates failed to win the series. Especially back then when the American League was considered the inferior league.

@@Phatooine Right, but my point is that _any_ American league team that made it to the World Series would be a recently-created one, which makes the comparison less than ideal.

If the D-Backs had a good closer - they would of won in five games. It also costed Mario Rivera a 1.000 w-l percentage in post season play.
