@@AlbertoGutierrez-zv1lo do you have $250,000 to give me? Also, you missed the entire point, she lied and is making people feel bad about themselves because of her exaggeration. I don’t think it’s intentional. She just didn’t think or in that moment truly believed she “pulled herself up by her $250,000 boot straps” because she worked hard. But she had an initial advantage. It’s privilege at its finest - like when Kim K told everyone “to get their asses out there and work” when her entire success is based on her x rated video and pre-existing financial privileges and connections. ALSO - saying she can’t believe people would go to work at a job everyday if they didn’t love their work is the most privileged thing I’ve ever heard. Does she truly believe there are people that love scrubbing toilets for a living or cleaning bed pans in senior living homes… NO. But we need those jobs to function as a society and sometimes people don’t have the luxury of doing anything else. It just seemed very out of touch but I have no doubt she’s bright and a hard worker. Some people just aren’t born with her brains, access to education, resources etc. BUT it says a lot about who she is as a person and how out of touch she is to say anything negative about people in less desirable situations.

And also the safety net she seemingly has with her husbands salary supporting their family allowing her the flexibility to risk opening a business. People working paycheck to paycheck can’t just try new things and see how they go!

wait... how does the math work out!? so many huge dollar investors. have they been paid back? also she relied on a brother with 250k to give, that was a huge advantage & gift that is so rare! it's not just that easy for everyone as she says. we have to acknowledge the wealth & privilege she had over any average entrepreneur

She made it work and thats awesome but she was a little tone death. She got 250k from her brother, she had a nanny to help her, she clearly had some money by the time she was in her 30's. She talked about living in small apartment, working job, etc un her 20s which have nothing to do with her starting point at 30.

As a small business owner who didn't start my business until I was 40 years old, I really LOVED this interview. She's a rockstar! I was a stay-at-home mom for 15 years and I always had this itch paired with a looming fear of what would happen to me and the kids if something happened to my husband or his income. Having my own business is a ton of hard work and stress, but it's also a wonderful feeling to be fully self-sufficient. For anyone out there considering whether to take the plunge, it's never too late to put yourself out there and chase the American Dream! ❤ P.S. I started my company from home with only $5K so you don't always need a lot.

I did appreciate this interview, However...it is very misleading for Ali to suggest all she did "on her own" when she had a brother who was willing to invest $250K and she had a mother who was willing to offer childcare and support. Some people just DO NOT have any of those things. I don't want to discourage anyone, but I think when people are talking of their success they owe it to people to not pretend they didn't have a village of people to help them along.

I love Shelby’s videos and she’s such a good interviewer but this video and interviewee come across quite tone deaf. I wish KZfaqrs would start interviewing people who are not SO on their high horse that they still come across relatable and aspirational. It’s the subtle, ‘you make it work’ or ‘you don’t get into it for the money’. Sure, maybe this person could make it work or didn’t get into it for the money but then that’s what she should’ve said…’I made it work’ of ‘I didn’t get into it for the money’. More than half the people in the world cannot just afford to do that (ie. Don’t have support from their parents, can’t afford nanny’s and after school programs, don’t have a brother to invest thousands etc). I just sometimes feel like to sell yourself as this person who, against all odds, did something amazing…whilst simultaneously coming off a bit detached from reality makes for such a boring interview because very few will feel inspired by this! Once again, given how much effort and time Shelby puts into these videos, I feel like she would be so much better off interviewing people who are perhaps lesser known but have incredible stories and are inspirational.

Im so glad you talked about, what now? Such a misconception that once you accomplish a huge goal, its time to do nothing. My husband and I face the challenge every day asking whats our purpose now? We wanted to buy extreme fixer uppers, remodel them and turn them into income. We did it while working our reg jobs. Hardest 7 years of our lives but we love remodeling houses so we didnt mind the work We accomplished it, did 2 houses. Ones an Airbnb, now what? I have another biz idea, had it for over a year. This video inspired me so much that as soon as this comments done, im creating a website and launcing that biz Selby im now watching your videos from start to finish, love this new format, im Hooked!

I loved the interview and learning more about a company i've used consistently for years. It would've been nice if you discussed the issues and criticisms that drybar has had (which I assume led to them saying we're absolutely selling one day). If you go there long enough, you notice certain experience luxuries don't exist anymore (for example, most shops don't offer the mimosa anyone or any drinks) or the decline in quality/services that a looooooot of people have noted over the years including the stylists.

For some people with different hair types, it's easier to have a professional do it to get a specific look. I have naturally curly hair, but like to wear my hair straight and the only way for me to get the straight look (without it looking poofy) is to get it professionally done. They don't just blow dry - they also flat iron and curl based on the style you want.
