If you've been around my channels for a while, you'll know that the tunebot features heavily in all of my tuning videos and snare tone deep dives. I've gotten TONNES of messages and comments asking all manner of different questions. In this 25min+ video, I detail what I find so useful about the Tune-Bot, address some common misconceptions, demonstrate how I use it on a beautiful Evetts spotted gum snare, show you some useful workarounds and answer YOUR questions!
Phew... that was a big one! I didn't think this video would be as involved as it is, and there's probably more I could have included! Enjoy!

Brother this is the BEST video I've seen on this tool. What a fantastic explanation of how to get the most from it while mitigating any confusion that can sometimes arise. I would love to see a video with your experience and advice with it on kick drums with a hole cut out for a kick mic and toms too if you're down to complete the series. I'm trying to get that big open Simon Phillips or Keith Carlock sound with my kick & toms and it has been like you said: a steep learning curve. Killer content - keep up the great work!

thanks for the video, great reminders of the useful settings to get better results. I love using it together with the app - the suggested tunings really help you focus on the differences between reso/batter relationships, trying new tunings, and coping the tunings of tune-bot artists. For gigs I find the tone that I like for that group of tunes and write the numbers right on the head - touch up at intermission if there is one, or get it right back to the same tone the next night. As you mentioned, the sound guy loves it -- me too!

This is one of the most comprehensive tuning videos I've seen. I've playing with this little machine for almost one decade, and I've found the same spots on many snare drums I've tuned. So this video is basically a good summary on how to get there. When you say before the tunebot, it felt like there was no final destination to drum tuning, I absolutely felt 100% interpreted on that feeling, because I got through that with this little machine. Finally 294 is my all around standard, 277 for nasty rockish with little muffing, and 233 with tons of tape with that low indie/pop sound. I would like to see a video of Part II on toms and bass drum, where I also found another gems, another nice spots.

Thanks for the video man it’s really insightful, especially as I’m in the midst of buying my dream drum kit so it has me considering getting one for helping to tune up the snare and toms as I have never really done it before - related to this, it would be great to get a similar video on how to tune toms with it as I have 4 toms so would like to how to get them tuned (with various high/ low tunings) whilst having them being still the right key apart from each other if that makes sense!

Love the detailed dive! Also, for anyone saying drums shouldn't be tuned to pitches or don't have one, I agree it seems very closed minded. Especially considering how many legend drummers and producers have stated that tuning your drums to fit into a certain pitch of a song can make a massive difference in overall production. If the song is in a specific key, why wouldn't you start by tuning your drums to a key that will compliment it rather than muddying it up? Just my take. Another solid video, dude.

@EliGreenDrums
@EliGreenDrums Ай бұрын
That’s interesting. I would check a) how closely tuned the drum head is so begin with, b) how hard you’re striking the drum (louder = more inconsistent) and c) how much of the drumhead is resonating. ie, are you muting the middle of the head and tapping near the edge, and perhaps muting the resonant head to stop any extra ringing? Try those troubleshooting methods!

@@EliGreenDrums Well obviously it’s working for you so don’t change anything haha! But when I teach people how to use it, I’ve noticed that holding it forces them to really concentrate on how hard they hit the head, and when the Tunebot gives a weird reading, they very quickly start to HEAR that something went wrong, and they try again.. it’s pretty cool!… Now I have NEVER been able to get the Tunebot to work reliably on a kick drum.
