This storyline may sound ridiculous, but if told the right way, it might work. If Batman were somehow able to get his hands on an indigo lantern ring, he could leak the location of the family to the Joker and when he finds them, he would be in such shock and confusion, that it would allow Batman to sneak behind the joker and put on the ring, which would effectively remove the threat of the Joker permanently. I got the idea for the indigo lantern ring from your other video on how to stop the Joker permanently, which is amazing.

Was it in the story of the Three Jokers The joker already knows his family is alive. The joker doesn't seem like a character who would be shocked by anything. He would probably just think it's a trick. And not believe it

I don't really like this retcon, I feel like it messes up both Batman and Joker's characters. Batman is supposed to be the world's greatest detective, but for many years he couldn't figure out who the Joker was; and the Joker is supposed to be so insane that (almost) nothing can restore his sanity. His "one bad day" happened because he thought everything that represented his happiness was taken away from him and embraced insanity as a means to escape. So know knowing that the 'bad day" was nothing but a sham, to me it kinda makes his whole anarchy and chaos because I have nothing left thing pointless. That's just me though.

ngl i get the idea behind this "retcon" but honestly it just ruins the joker's origin for me in every way it can, and just feels like its trying too hard to make batman even more cool. like i like that batman doesn't know who joker is, it adds tension and confusion. The one bad day sets up a lot of the modern conflict between Joker and Batman as well, just making the Joker always an abusive asshole gets in the way of that and idk....it just makes it too easy? Like "don't worry, good family men aren't actually capable of bad things if pressed enough, everyone is just good or evil from the start." And yeah, "i had a bad day" doesn't excuse what Joker does to begin with, especially considering that Batman exists. But that's the point, Joker poses a question and is a grim reflection of what Batman could've been. Now all that ambiguity is thrown away in the favor of "no he was always a dick." Hell, even the confrontation of Joker and his family wouldn't be interesting in this retcon. He'd probably just kill them, since he apparently wasn't great to begin with and only has gotten worse.

I’ve always like the idea of him meeting his family as it is now but I feel this takes away more than it gives like you said it makes the one bad day thing untrue which is one the most fascinating part of the joker because it paralleled Bruce so well. The idea of having him be abusive while it makes sense for who’d he’d become in normal circumstances but it also makes the changes that happened to him far lesser than they were before as while not violent on the same level is still violence even if it was due to his circumstances that he acted that way towards his wife. I feel the joker is best left as an a tragic villain who is irredeemable because of his actions to the point where even if he was a saint before he could never atone

he does not understand the basic fundamentals of writing a batman comic, yes he is a good writer in terms of bright and larger than life superheroes such as the flash and green lantern (maybe even Shazam)but when it comes to batman, his comics often have this ‘false’ sense of darkness around them, where generally the themes given are often very childish but played out in a very dark world, that is what he specialises in IMO, worldbuilding. But other than that he fails in every other aspect of what makes a batman comic a batman comic like the basic relationship he has with his rogues' gallery and sidekicks, it’s almost as if he mocks our fans for coming up with reasons on how he (batman) is the greatest detective ever by adding the (spoiler if you own to read that excuse of a comic) dialogue about batman knowing who joker was the first week he met him, simply because he is batman. That spoils the entire dynamic batman and joker had to go for them, sure some might say batman does not care, just like the joker doesn’t care who Bruce is, but again IMO, batman always had that fear in him, knowing that joker can do anything and everything he wishes because of his insanity, what his motivations before that were only imaginable, so giving his origin the one given the killing joke gave him made it a bit underwhelming, like seriously joker fell from a god of laughter to a guy with anger issues, from a guy who was/is ‘super sane’ to a ‘failed comedian’, from a guy once assumed to be the comedian to now just a guy who had a bad day which I get but, the reason no one ever tackled joker’s origin story is because it didn’t matter, and I might sound hypocritical rn as I just mentioned how Geoff putting in the same dialogue was mocking us, but what I mean is, if it didn’t matter, why touch it in the first place? There was always that awe factor about the joker, what could lead a man so far off the ledge to a point where he is ‘beyond sane’, to a point where even Martian man Hunter is scarred once he tapped into his (joker’s) brain, my point is the best dynamic joker had was keeping everyone guessing, every comic fan had their take on who the joker was, even joker himself had three theories at one point in the comics! Yes It does not matter who the joker is, but it doesn’t matter because we frankly didn’t need an origin story, I was in when I became a comic enthusiast and googled the joker only then to find out that Wikipedia stated his real identity as unknown, we didn’t need the space of creativity and imagination to be blocked by Geoff Johns and his big three-year ‘money move’, if DC’s was going to give us a joker origin, it better be a masterpiece otherwise it’s just one of the most culturally relevant villains getting ruined.

One idea that I thought would be interesting is that if Batman has his own Family why couldn't The Joker have his too? Each member of the Joker's family would be a kind of antithesis to the members of the Batman Family. Batman - Joker Catwoman - Punchline Batwoman - Alice Nightwing - Heartless (Infinite Frontier) Batgirl/Oracle - The Seer (new hacker villain who appeared in the Fear State saga) Red Hood - Cheer (A Villain Drug Dealer Who Appeared in Comics Batman: Urban Legends). Red Robin (Tim Drake) - Ulysses Armstrong/ Anarky II Robin ( Damian Wayne) - Joker, Jr (The Joker's True Son) Duke Thomas/The Signal - John Bender, Jr. / The Smiley Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain : The Batgirls - Giggles e Guffaw (Joker's fanatical followers)

I don't think its a bad retcon because there are comics where the Joker found out Batmans identity and while having how many layers of protection? It only makes sense that Batman knew who Joker was from the start but it probably wouldn't change anything if he told him, worse he'd just kill his family as a joke or a loose end.

Maybe Batman wanted to keep the secret identity of the Joker to himself and to protect the family, you gotta remember, bats is a master at keeping secrets, even from his family, so that's why every time he says he doesn't know or the batcomputer saying identity unknown, he is protecting the family from the joker

I like the idea of batman knowing his family but think of this in a new story. Batman only talks about finding out the joker's name when other people are with him, so when in this story we do learn he knows it makes more sense.

the fact that not even the origin behind his "one bad day" idea was true (even in jokers own life) makes a lot of sense since the point of the killing joke is that not everyone is so unringed like the joker to turn crazy after one bad day, batman even rubs in the jokers face that even after all he did in the killing joke he still couldn't turn Gordon evil or crazy

In the Killing Joke, what makes the ending sad is because Batman decides that he has to kill Joker to prevent more Victims because Joker wouldn't reform by choice. Knowing that the Joker was just crazy but aware of his actions, he decided to laugh at Joker's final joke before putting him out of his misery. While they laugh together, Batman chokes Joker to death, as written in the comic. And although it doesn't show in the animation, it's referenced when it starts with both laughing and ends with just Batman laughing.

Honestly I kinda hate how apparently Bruce not only knows Joker's family, and has for years, but also somehow discovered them before the Joker himself AND got them into what is essentially a bat version of witness protection with zero complications, like sure I can see why the Joker might not care since he thinks they're dead, plus the insanity stuff, but you'd think the Joker would still care just a tiny bit about his family considering losing them is what sorta "sparked" his transformation into The Joker. Also, I don't like how they imply that the Joker's family never cared about him and were in fact scared of him, like sure it sort of makes sense for the Joker as a character but it throws away the idea that he was a good (or atleast normal) guy before everything, and completely trashes the concept of "One Bad Day" if he was always a monster. Like the idea itself of the Joker's family being afraid of him makes sense by itself, but it just doesn't work in conjunction with everything presented in "The Killing Joke" whatsoever. Unless you take it as The Joker himself remembers things happening the way they did in "The Killing Joke" but in reality the retcon introduced later is the true version of his backstory. However, even with that idea it still detracts from the original in my opinion. Plus the idea that The Joker believes he was a good man before "Bad Day" but actually wasn't only really helps show that his "One Bad Day" worldview is more untrue and misguided than he himself realizes, which is something that was already obvious and much more powerful with him actually having said "One Bad Day" as his reasoning for being what he is. Like the original message was much more powerful when The Joker really was a good person once and one single "bad day" was all it took for him to allow himself to turn to evil, since in "The Killing Joke"-s story Gordon goes through physical and mental torture but doesn't break showing that only weak people let one bad day define them, which is a great message that works on a ton of levels. However, when you reveal the Joker actually was always bad it just doubles down on the idea that one bad day isn't enough to change who someone is in a completely unnecessary way, like it worked sooo much better when Joker actually was a good person once and just used the "one bad day" as an excuse to become an evil person, since the story already proves that isnt the case with what Gordon goes through, it's simply unnecessary to further show that "One Bad Day" isn't all it takes to change you by revealing Joker was always evil, cuz the fucking original story with that "One Bad Day" message already proved that wasn't the case and that the Joker was misguided!!!! Adding that unnecessary retcon to Joker's backstory is like making a law that prohibits you from putting on shoes, only to later make a new law that prohibits you from owning shoes, to further stop people from wearing shoes! Like the original point was already f*cking made!! You don't gotta drive it in deeper, man! 🤣😭🤣 (I hope this made sense to someone, and sorry for the long rambling nature of this comment, I just really do not like some of the unnecessary additions to the lore later writers sometime add, like its possible to care too much about these fringe details, even to us nerds who love fringe details sometimes too much is just too damn much! 😅😅😅)

Well that is...fucking awful. It goes against the one bad day thing, since if Joker was messed up already then he didn't go crazy from just one bad day. Also, I hate how he was violent to his wife and that their relationship was clunky as it's much sadder if the Jinker and his wife were happy together and then she dies and he goes crazy. I also hate the idea that Batman DOES know who Joker is as it takes away the mystery between the relationship: Joker doesn't know who Bats is and Bats doesn't know who Jonker is. But what I REALLY hate is how the story gives us a definite answer to the Joker's past. It's supposed to be a mystery, multiple choice. But now we practically know for certain who he was before he became the Janker

Agree with you mate. Especially agree with you about the whole life thing. It made joker much more sadder and a more compelling villain when he was in this good relationship even though it was on the rocks because of his career and them not making enough money. But it made me empathize with the joker. This one the main reasons I enjoy that story. The joker is one of my absolute favorite characters because of that story because of him being happy once upon a time but then he turns into this bad guy over unfortunate circumstances. It turns joker from just a one note bad guy to an actual compelling character. And then they ruin it. Honestly I can't wait for the comics industry to die. It's just going to keep getting worse and worse.
