I actually happened upon a lot of this information totally by mistake. I didn't really have much to say about The Last of Us that hadn't already been said, but then I found out that the fungal invasion of our world is actually a thing that's already happening. It's really spooky stuff.

How freaking good is The Last of Us on HBO? Seriously. If you're not watching it, you should be. Episode 3 alone was probably one of the best episodes of television I've ever seen, only narrowly beaten out by the episode that revealed the White Ranger in The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

The most recent science on this is so much scarier, it doesn’t attack the brain it just manipulates the body, meaning the host is conscious of what’s happening but is incapable of stopping it. I’m not sure how much research the crew did but wouldn’t it be the absolute most if they gave Frank MS (someone slowly losing control of there body over time as their mind stays relatively intact) as grim parallel.

I wrote up a character that was a cordicep that high jacked an old truckers brain, trying to imagine what it would be like being one thing a moment ago, then suddenly get flushed with knowing how too operate an 18 wheeler, a desire to visit 7 separate husky waitresses, ect. It freaked out for a while. Contemplating a hospital visit, settled down a bit, used the waitresses to start a very secret family. But never brought out the end. Just stuck with being hidden and secret.

I once worked with an English teacher who would say the word Gemini as "gee-me-nee" and I couldn't believe my ears. A master's holding English teacher didn't know how to pronounce Gemini as if he has never heard the word before. Same here, I had always heard fungi pronounce "fun-guy", so I'm shocked to hear Austin pronounce it differently throughout the video.

I originally posted this on the Game Theorist sub reddit, but since ya've left them I figure I'll repost it here in the hopes that you see it. "How Accurate ws Vault-Tec?" This is an Idea for Austin cause I love The Science and I know he loves Fallout! I realize that the Vaults in Fallout were taken to extremes, and any experiment that pushes its variables that far is doomed to fail. However, what if the experiments done were scaled back and designed with people that had empathy. What are the real world effects of "confinement," and would that variable cause significant change based on the tests? I imagine this could maybe be a mini series where you look through the vault experiments list and compare with real world studies that tweaked similar variables, like how the vault in Fallout 1 has its water purifier breaking would signify "group loses resource at X period during test." I dunno, seemed like a neat idea, and something Austin would give the best love too if it sparks his interest.

"AcChuALly" Cordyceps spreads not into the nervious system nor the brain, but the muscles themselves, it is thought infected ants are even conscious while the hyphea extends through their body, making the whole process a lot more terrifying. Dear ShoddyCast/Austin Hello I'm here today for multiple reason first to say thank you for continuing to make a wonderful series. Second, to recommend an idea. I'm a college student studying for marine biology but I love animals in general though and love Pokémon. A idea I had in mind came form the most resent series of from sun and moon-scarlet and violet. The idea mainly being involving ecology of how Pokémon interact with each other and the environment and the other being adaptations and evolution made from the interaction. This can be done with reginal variants, paradox forms, and convergent evolution. With some pokedex entries you might be able to make a food webs or top down to bottom up interactions for whole regions . Last being hey I would like to work for or with you if possible. thank yo again and I hope you have a nice day Sincerely Lewis

So the thing about that "Ant Fungi" is that the actual zombie fungus DOES indeed go after other insects. Not the ant form but the spider form or other forms that do indeed attack many other insects. Cordyceps have numerous versions for the many ants in the world but there are other forms that infect spiders, wasps, butterflies, even just flies. So us not being ants does not truly free us from the chance. There are a lot of versions out there.

I really hate to be the guy to confirm anything said in this video but I will confirm it. My father was immuno compromised. He was infected by a fungus in his respiratory system. The fungal infection was so aggressive it started eating his skull and even his eye. The treatment was so aggressive it absolutely killed him internally. He lost his eye, half of the bone in his face and the treatment is what actually killed him. Scary. Very scary one might say. The fun part is that even premier city doctors like the ones in Philadelphia and across the country have barely seen it before and have nearly zero idea what to do about it. It's nearly always fatal if it occurs.
