Correction: Argent energy isn't native to Hell. Demons stole it when they finally managed to take over Doomguy's homeworld, Argent D'nur, and the Wraiths, the beings that actually *make* Argent Energy, were formerly powerful elemental spirits on Argent D'nur, worshipped and protected by Doomguy's people. To be fair Demons stole argent energy by massacring another race, which is likely Doomguy's true race. SO, Doomguy is just murdering and stealing from murdering thieves.

My head Canon, it stands for baryonic frequency generator, and it uses a little quirk in argent energy physics to inject just enough energy into baryonic matter to force it apart, converting anything it touches into a quark gluon plasma for a fraction of a fraction of a second before it recondences back into baryons. The term Big Fucking Gun came from the original Doom 1 manual. The Bio Force Gun from the Doom movie doesn't even work in remotely the same way. The Bio Force Gun worked like a glorified rocket launcher. The BFG in Doom 3 basically fires a projectile that is a guided by a targeting chip and said chip directs energy or plasma at hostile targets. Works great with everything within the LOS of the projectile. The BFG in Doom 4 is powered by using modified and filtered Argent Energy. Said energy is attracted to targets infused with good old fashion Red unfiltered Argent energy, thus making a targeting system unnecessary for fighting demons (think magnets). So that is why it auto seeks out demons or zombies, but never humans. Either way I am sure a direct hit from the Doom 4 BFG will turn a human into chunks of meat. Just that it won't have the cool homing plasma effect.

It draws power from the badass factor of the wielder, that's why it's so strong.

If you think the BFG's power is impressive, pair it with the quad damage bonus. Now that's what I'm talking about!

What's wrong is that you're assuming the BFG works only based on known "normal" physics and oversimplifying how it does what it does. When you start getting into things involving alternate dimensions, undiscovered energy sources, and as-yet undiscovered mechanisms of physics, it becomes more complex. Let's take the dimension-hopping for example. You tear a hole in the fabric of space (or space time or whatever you want to call it) and that takes a lot of energy, but let's say there's untapped potential energy, such as in the Argent fracture? That changes the rules. I'm sure you're familiar with how a nuclear bomb works? The energy isn't created - it's already there, it's just released when the right conditions are met - in the case of an atomic bomb, when critical mass is reached and a chain reaction occurs, and in the case of a hydrogen bomb, when an atomic detonator is used to start the hydrogen to fusing. Ok, say they found a way to take that Argent energy and change it into a form of plasma that feeds back against it, like grounding out a battery. Now the BFG projectile starts to make more sense, and that explains why it draws streamers into the demons it's cooking - it's using the same argent energy that brought them into our dimension against them, but of an opposite nature. Like matter + antimatter, it would not take an excessive amount of energy on the BFG's part to do the job of blowing a demon inside-out since half the energy needed is already present in the demon. The energy from the BFG is drawn to the Argent energy in the demons and voila: Ludicrous Gibs Mode Enabled! The excess energy not used by the BFG blast would be dissipated harmlessly on impact with a solid object since the BFG energy only reacts with the Argent energy carried by the demons. This would make the weapon perfectly safe for an armored fellow like the Doom Slayer to carry and fire point blank into the face of a meatbag like a Baron of Hell because the only thing he'd have to worry about is flying chunks of steaming meat. Now as for why the weapon wouldn't smack the Doom Slayer himself, the Doom Slayer's armor converts Argent energy into a different form... but beyond that, basic engineering says "If I'm going to build a Big F!@#ing Gun it shouldn't blow up in my face when I use it." I'm looking at you, Doom 3... So it's an inherent property of the weapon to insulate the weapon itself and the user from any errant energy leakage from the projectile. Hey, if they can tear open a hole in space to Hell a little shielding shouldn't be too much trouble. So put the potatoes and microwaves down, son. You're playing with the wrong kind of portals. The UAC is the big leagues and knows how to blow $h!T up!

Ah, it’s fun rewatching this after playing Doom once again. I love this series and it’s realistic take on video games. Keep doing good work Austin! But, doing some digging into the lore of the BFG in the newest iteration, it doesn’t emit a giant green sun. It’s far more terrifying. The lore of the game shows that it amplified any and all argent energy inside its gargantuan radius to the point where it vaporizes all the water inside and explodes whatever vessel the argent energy is in. And it is explicitly started in the game that a human can stand in front of the BFG blast and be perfectly fine with no seemingly long term damage while this overtly overcompensating machine one shots a horde of Barrons and any other demon in its sight lines. Awesome thing is that the doom marine doesn’t have this argent energy in his body despite his suit and weapons having it. Maybe it was the purification process and the fact the doom marine armor has several vents for the excess argent energy but I digress. It is... glorious!

Here are a couple of suggestions for other videos and give you a new genre to fuck around with. How would Samus' Power Suits (Such as Gravity, Varia, Gravity, Zero) work, or how her Power Beam works, as it's Shots of some sort aren't Plasma or Lasers, as they're not made of light, but also have no recoil, with the Prime games being... PRIME examples? Ah? Ah? Anyway, There isn't any recoil on her Power Beam, but they aren't lasers as they're defined, (lightless in the 2D Metroid games, but not in Prime, so it's a bit inconsistent). Finally, explain what the science behind the Metroids and what the "Lifeforce" is that it supposedly sucks up (that's what I said) is. So please explain the SCIENCE behind Samus' gear, as I'd love to see your take on them!

It's explained that the way the BFG works is by launching a giant lob of argent Energy and this said lob shoots out arcs of energy that expunged all the argent energy in a single being (in this case is demon, which I have to add demons are packed to the brim with argent energy which allows them to throw fire balls n shit) . So with that being said maybe the energy required is a bit less than what we think it is but there is no way of truly knowing. I just though it was interesting

Pretty sure there's some lore information in the game that says it reacts with the agent energy in the demon's bodies, so it cannot cause any harm to uncorrupted humans. Otherwise, it works just as you described: it instantly boils everything liquid inside the demons.
