Andy "Rebirth" Pellerano is a former soldier for the Almighty Latin King Nation, or Latin Kings, one of the largest and most dangerous prison and street gangs in the United States.
Business Insider talks to Pellerano about how members are initiated, what the gang's codes are, and how he got the green light to leave the organization. He covers the rivalry with the Crips and The Folk Nation, and the "Bloodline" allegiance with the Bloods in the prison system. Pellerano was based in New Orleans, where the gang spread to from their home base in Chicago. He discusses how the Latin Kings ran a drug-trafficking network, and other types of crime such as robbery and extortion.
Today, Pellerano is an evangelical minister and musician. He uses hip-hop and rap to give his testimony to young men and to redeem other former members of the Latin Kings.

Almost 10 years of my life I was a king. In my neighborhood you were either Latin king, blood or DDP. There was a couple trinitario sets, but we all beefed with them after they killed one of my close friends at just 16 years old. My family were kings so it was just a normal thing to us growing up. It wasn’t always violence, wasn’t always war, but when it was bad it was really bad. Alot of the times we were just a family keeping each other safe, uplifting each other and trying to find ways to make legal money rather then just on the streets. But eventually all that changed. I learned a lot that shaped me into the person I am today. Eventually it just got to the point where it wasn’t all about being a family anymore and it was constant beef with other blocks. Everyone was losing people left and right. Some of us just grew out of it and moved away to better ourselves. The homies that didn’t are sadly not here anymore.. I got stars all over and the set tatted on me. Also was an idiot and tatted under my eye so im stuck with that mark for ever. Reminds me everyday to keep my kids on the right track and go hard for this legal money so they never have to end up in that environment ever again.

What an outstanding, touching and sincere/authentic (seeming; what do I know) post. I really want to thank you for your share. It was a delight to read. I don't have any gang experience, but I've hustled a living, spent a couple years living outside...seen some things...learned some things....have some choices I'd love to unmake. *Your consideration for your children is inspiring.* I can't speak from any experience with a facial tattoo, so I hope this isn't out of line: *WHATEVER ELSE THEY DO, WHATEVER ELSE THEY SAY, WHATEVER ELSE EVEN THAT OTHERS MAY THINK OF THEM...OUR SCARS DEFINE US...THEY TELL US, AND THE WORLD WHO WE ARE* (note definitions are *DESCRIPTIVE* and not *PRESCRIPTIVE* ...they don't need to play any role in who you become, only inform who you are. *(At least, I need to believe that. Hopefully I'm not coming across as some sketchy rando...)* Live well, Laugh readily, Love. Unconditionally. AND TELL JOKES!!

Good for you my man and keep up the good work staying on the straight and narrow path. I also grew up around lots of gang members and some of my relatives were Latin Kings. I also grew up seeing the nietas, DDP, Trinitarios, bloods and some crips and other smaller street gangs. THANKFULLY, THANKFULLY I never got involved and NEVER had any interest in the gang life. I'm so grateful to the powers that be that kept me away from that stuff because I've seen too many of my peers fall into the lures and trappings of gang life and 95% of them never ended up anywhere good.

To anyone cracking jokes about this, yall never been through it. People joined Latin Kings, ,Ñetas, Bllods, Crips etc for different reasons, and not many are able to leave and live on. Life is all about lessons, from being young and making mistakes to being older and making selfish decisions with consequences, we are all blessed to be able to learn from our past. Salute to him for speaking his truth and experience.

I was really surprised that so many people have no clue about street life when i joined the army. I thought it was totally normal to have a side hustle that made thousands of dollars a week. I got so lucky when I enlisted i dodged fed time.

Its crazy the difference in hierarchy between the latin kings and southern cali hispanic gangs.. way different structure .. but still organized in there own way.. crazy how good business men these guys could have been.

@@gabrieldesouza7397 for sure, so the southern california hispanic gangs are more structured and segregated as in they dont really do business with blacks, there cultures are also different hispanic gangs believe there aztec warriors. As in latin kings believe they are in a brotherhood organization.. same in prison southern cali hispanic gangs segregate themselves from black people in prison

God Bless 🙏 Absolutely older men need to take accountability and be positive role models for the younger generations. So many negative comments on this video but we are all fallen in some way, many ways for most of us. I got no hate for what this man has become and continues to evolve towards. For me, I know I will never be a perfect man but i will strive everyday to be a better man, partner and friend using my faith, my family and those around me who are doing the same.
