As a screenwriter myself, Kojima's writing skills have always amazed me. He managed to connect every MGS in 28 years; but nonlinear. Screenplays and storyboards always have structures. I truly want to hear Kojima's way of writing because he managed to overcome barriers that some of the greatest film and theater screenwriters and novelists have not yet touched. And we are talking about videogames. This is a work of art.

That's why till these days I can't take serious The Phantom Pain; I don't need it, MGS4 is the "real" ending. If only the narrative would have that plot twist with a «relevant» character instead of some random medical, jesus.

That is what I was hoping for the story of MGS5 at first. I was hoping that Kojima and Konami would tell us the whole story after snake eater and before MGS1. I´m afraid we will never see a proper remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. What a shame... Maybe we will get atleast a remake version of MGS1 someday. After defeating Basilisk (A.I Operated Metal Gear created by Coldman), MSF created MG ZEKE, in which Paz double crossed BB and Kaz where Paz was blasted to the sea and her body was not found which was then revealed that during MGSV GZ that she was held captive. If I'm correct the time that MSF was attacked and when Paz was detonated was the beginning of the MGSV PP, and during the end scene of PP where the Outer Haven alarms are going and Venom Snake was realizing he was not BB was the start of the first Metal Gear(Not Metal Gear Solid 1), which signifies that BB was alive and it was VS which was killed by Snake

Have you ever considered that the events of “Truth” in MGSV take place after the events of Outer Heaven? To me it makes perfect sense since the Big Boss in MG2 has “robotic” features which alludes to Venom Snake. Therefore Venom Snake either visited Outer Heaven because he was invited there by Naked Snake and discovered the truth of his origins. Hence the “from here on out you’re Big Boss” meaning it’s time for you to carry the mantle since I’ve died. Why he plays the Operation Intrude tape to get acquainted with the events and learn about Solid Snake. Also it would explain as to why the resistance allied themselves to Big Boss since this one appeared different and up until that point didn’t considered himself a full demon. It’s the event leading up to the Zanzibar uprising in which he begins to consider himself as a demon since he is going against everything he believed in yet his title as Big Boss required him to be against everything he stood for. Also is it safe to assume that Campbell was part of the Patriots and was in Miller’s team in a sense since both aided Solid and were both close to Naked Snake. One help Naked Snake found Foxhound while the other one found MSF/Diamond Dogs and in a way were betrayed by Naked indirectly or directly

Dont forget that Solidus was the president at the time of Shadow Moses incident. Liquid was demanding to him the remains of Big Boss and that money. But Solid was sent to do the dirty work. Liquid had the best genes, Solid had the worst and Solidus was (in theory better than both) After Natasha Romanenko went public, things couldnt happen as before. Ocelot knew Big Boss was alive, but couldnt reach him, since he was designed the mission of training Liquid and helping him out; while Miller trained Solid. Im pretty sure Ocelot convinced Liquid to pressure Solidus with Rex, maybe Zero was training Solidus and the 3 were struggling for the control of the philosophers legacy, but Eva had some control of it too. Eva gave her life for the Solidus remains, believing it was Big Boss. Im pretty much sure few people knew the whereabouts of Big Boss, Zero was tracking him, but couldnt find, even with all the Patriots' AIs. After Liquid failed, Ocelot took his role in a bigger scheme of defeating Zero and his Solidus. But against the odds, Solid, without Miller, managed to disrupt it all.

Yeah Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain came later which were great for gameplay, ehhh, for story, but I really didn't need much story at that point. MGS4 might not have been the best gameplay game but omfg did it explain so many unanswered questions that the other 3 games brought. This is the greatest franchise in video game history wth the baddest protagonist ever. I'll be a hundred and tell my great grand kids about this masterpiece.

@MarlonAnthony 3 жыл бұрын
The only problem with all this is, When they made MGS1, They didn't know it would be so successful that there would be demand for sequels so they didn't actually write the plot this far in advanced. The little details in MGS4 are carefully rooted from MGS1's 10 year old plot. This is why Kojima brings Liquid back in MGS2, He didn't expect the character to be so popular after killing him off so he had to write him into the plot of MGS2 somehow.
@PythonSelkan
@PythonSelkan 3 жыл бұрын
Deep down every creator has thoughts about a sequel even if they think they're not making future games in the series. Why would Kojima introduce the Third Snake, Solidus Snake, in the post-credits scene of MGS1 then? 😉 The puzzle is further assembled with every title, but some plot points are purposely left open for a reason. Big Boss's return was one of them. - Python & Selkan
@MarlonAnthony
@MarlonAnthony 3 жыл бұрын
@@PythonSelkan That is a good point that creators probably have basic ideas & leave stuff open ended just in case, But I do also think they didnt think much further advance then MGS2 at the most. This is why they retcon a lot of stuff in order to make certain plot points or new characters fit for the sake of it like Dr Clark/Para or the Patriots stuff in 4.

Your vídeos are nice but I think Kojima wanted to stop on MGS2, after that all his games (Except Peace Walker) were about loss, misunderstood and characters being forced to do things they dont want to (Snake killing The Boss, Old Snake returning to the field) Kojima forced to make MGS3, 4, V . The themes of the games reflects on him (SCENE, SENSE and REVENGE) GENE, MEME and PEACE were positive life advices, unlike the others. Maybe thats how he got his REVENGE on us, because we all feel like we LOST our favorite series, because we LOST Kojima, A real Phantom Pain... I hope it's all intentional and someday the truth will be revealed...just like you say on your videos :)

Not as a Hero, or a Villan. Or even a soldier. But as a Free man. Free of the everlasting war, or manipulations by the Patriots. That's why he said to Snake to live rest of his days. If Liquid was enemies with The Patriots, was HE the one Paradise Lost expected to win the battle vs Solid? 🤔 Did NO ONE pick David over Eli??? Actually... seems maybe Solidus DID. Solid was the tool of the Patriots in MG2, MGS, and MGS4. I actually feel like maybe Solidus was initially intended to BE Big Boss. His connection Raiden could've been showing us how Big Boss groomed Gray Fox. The case for Solidus' existence seemed pretty weak to me.

However, the caveat is that Eli is beyond the listening point when it comes to the topic of Big Boss. Not only did Eli despise Cipher for the LET project, he despises Big Boss too(to the point where in MGSV, Mantis chose Eli's hatred over both Skull Face's and the Man on Fire's). Liquid would almost certainly try to take down both sides of the conflict, Zero and his allies, as well as Big Boss's side. And no doubt when Eli does stage a revolt against Big Boss, EVA and Ocelot will be enemies of Liquid too. And to add, in MGS4, Philanthropy was more of a begrudging helper(not just a tool) to the Patriots, sure, they were oblivious to the fact that Drebin 893 and RAT PT 01 were sent by the Patriots, but Campbell also said that "we have no choice but to supplant the Patriots' System" due to the catastrophic consequences provided 'Liquid Ocelot' fully succeeds. It was only until they got Naomi that they truly could combat the Patriots, via FOXALIVE. Come to think of it, I think that's another thing that Big Boss meant when he said Solid had the "freedom to be 'outside'". Solid, unlike his brothers, was 'outside' in terms of the conflict between the Cipher founders(at least since starting Philanthropy), for Liquid was in opposition to both Zero's side(hated them for cloning him into existence with what he thought was inferior genes) and Big Boss's side(hated Big Boss because of the notion that Liquid felt, being confined to his father's genes therefore being forever in his shadow), and Solidus was made to be the perfect clone, and to an extent, the ideal puppet for the Patriots.

@@demonking86420 isn't that also why Solidus was also president, because of his remarkable likeness to big boss as well as his utility as a patriot asset? I was also confused as to the point of Solidus, it seemed his primary purpose for the grand narrative was to act as a body double for the real big boss. His monologue at the end of MGS2 also seems to indicate that even knowing his role as a patriot asset, he still had plans to resist just as Liquid wanted.

I think it's a stretch to say that Kojima was directly "hinting" at Big Boss being alive in MGS1. More likely, the time came in MGS4 to reveal once and for all what happened to him, and he saw an opening in the plot and jumped at the opportunity. Basically, Kojima went, "Well, we never said he WASN'T still alive!" Like any good writer, you make it seem as though you had everything planned out from the start, even if you didn't.

I've been going over the cutscenes and dialogue of each game, currently looking at MGS and MGS:TS. At first I wanted to say that the dialogue being different in some places, like Baker calling "Bribes" as "Good business practices" in MGS and something about the "Militiary Industrial Complex" in TS, as subtle hints of this, but I found out that Jeremy Blaustein had some issue with Kojima about how the script turned out. But then I started thinking about the cutscenes and how over the top they were compare to the original. Yes, it could be said that was just a byproduct of having better tech to make cutscenes, but I have another thought: MGS was what really happened, TS is how people believed it to happen. Between MGS and MGS2, Nastasha put out her book "In the Darkness of Shadow Moses" and readers imaginations started to run wild. Certain cutscenes made me think of this. The way snake fights the tank, the jumping off the rocket to shoot down the Hind, but it's Gray Fox that really makes me look at it. For one, just before the rescue of Otacon, Gray Fox killed all those soldiers. In one room, he was covered in blood, but is clean when he fights Snake. In the same room, he cuts a soldier in half, but the pieces are gone when the screen transitions. Lastly, after the fight, he freaks out and proceeds to destroy most, if not all, of the equipment in the room. Yet in MGS4, all you can see are some impacts and bullet holes along the walls, and Snake and Otacon even use the equipment to scan the security cameras. If TS is really how Kojima wanted to portray Snake's mission, shouldn't he have kept that particular detail in mind? In short, MGS is gritty reality, and MGS:TS is truth mixed with fiction from the minds of readers of Nastasha's book. I'm hoping to see some discussion in this thread. Twin Snakes is an underrated game IMO and doesn't get enough love. Keep up the good work!

@@guilhermecaiado5384 Basically. Much scarier was how accurate Kojima was with how conspiratorial and nepotic and self centered and egocentrically motivated our geopolitical situation is. For decades in his stories, countless civilians suffered and died in horrific wars, and all of these wars had been orchestrated by a small group of insatiably greedy and power hungry narcissists who are incapable of considering the effects of their actions. It's all about control. It's all about power. And until we resist, like Kojima warns, it will only worsen from here on.

The paradise lost army hired Naomi hunters brother to kill Dr.Clark. Ocelot and Eva were part of this army and also in mgsv Ocelot says what if I'm a spy or you we could go on all day he's great at getting people to trust up until the last second also his loyalty is always changing but since the main goal was to free Big Boss and to kill the O.G members of the patriots. He needed to make it believable that he didn't help sneak in the ninja so I think losing a hand is a reasonable price to sell your story.

While I imagine it wasn't necessarily planned from the very start, at least in the way it ultimately played out in MGS4, it is certainly clear that Kojima was toying with the idea of the deceased not staying dead as early as MGS1 with all the talks about Big Boss' cells and Gray Fox being brought back from death. Regardless of whether it was some carefully laid setup or just a stroke of good luck with the writing leaving plenty of wiggle room, it was certainly one of the better twists Kojima had made compared to others, since there was a lot more to it than just "Nanomachines, son!"

Three things ill never forgive Metal gear for: 1- Meryl story conclusion (She doesn't need a man to be happy, she was a kickass soldier). 2- The Vamp & Naomi story (such wasted potential for Vamp after his enigmatic and cool introduction in sons of liberty). 3- The fact that Quadrilogy doesn't have an HD/4K re-release on PC or PS4/5 (I know its Konami fault, fuck you Konami). One would think the greatest game series of all time deserves such treatment but instead it was shelved like any normal forgotten game.

This wasnt that surprising because Big Boss in MG1 and MG2 did "died" a couple times. Then MGSV came around and actually made you think that the true big boss was only in MG2 all along. From Kojimas point of view this was his way of saying that his true creative work on the series started in MG2. And since MGS4 was supposed to be his final game in the series the true Big Boss dying in the end was definitely the proper way to end it all.

It's interesting because Kojima clearly fell in love with Big Boss as the series progressed, even though the most recent canon material up to that point had him be "dead," or more like permanently sidelined. Hence why about half the series is about the character, despite how he was a colossal piece of shit to the world. That's something that never sat right with me. The series pays lip service to the idea that Big Boss was terrorist, but never had the balls to show him doing anything villainous. It's only ever alluded to as what he did in-between games, and the focus was always on how he did it for the sake of the men of his psudo-nation. It would have been really narratively satisfying to see Big Boss finally making what are clearly evil decisions in MGS5, but Kojima chickened out by making that game not even about Big Boss, and not even including the villainy. Metal Gear will always be special to me, but the later half of the series is a complete mess that worsens the stories that came before as it got more and more contrived to tie them all together.

I hate to be THAT guy, but I respectfully submit to you, that although some ambiguity is employed at some point or another, most of these links are circumstantial because of how much MGS4 retcons. MGS4 was not supposed to happen by the time that MGS1 & 2 were written, hell MGS2 downright stops making sense on its own when you take 4 into account, because of retcons. This video is very VERY well done, no doubt, but the points I've made are known. And this is why I feel that some people end up thinking that Kojima is pretentious, some people give him waaaay too much credit, and don't get me wrong, MGS1 & 2 are two of the most amazing games one can play in their lives, they're so well written and have very clear messages, MGS2 turned out to be almost prophetic about some of the social issues we as a species face today, so I know how good Kojima can be, but MGS4, PW and 5 are just him trying to make the most out of a bad situation, TPP is especially autobiographical. Sorry for the wall of text. Hope someone reads this but still enjoys the video, props to the creator.
