Embiid went on social and whining about stats to get everyone's attention. Meanwhile, Jokic deleted his social media because it's "a waste of time". That's how vastly different their mentality is. One is a jealous kid with big talent, another is a mature dad with the right mindset for life.

Not really it was just about the Sixers having a better record than the Nuggets as well as Embid having more points than Jokic as well as Jokic's deficiencies on defense that aren't really his fault since he can't increase his athleticism. As well as the Nuggets not deserving the #1 seed due to teams like the Lakers and Warriors faltering in the reg season. That was really the main narrative since the MVP is a regular season award and many believed the Sixers were gonna make a huge playoff push. Even though it’s a regular season award, people tend to look at great prior post season to see if a players stats are “empty numbers” or a real contribution to the team. The reason why Jokic’s championship was brought up as a “see, he should’ve won the MVP award” is cause the two main arguments that gave Embiid the MVP award were “he deserves to be on the scoreboard with Giannis and Jokic”, and “How can we give Jokic the MVP when he chokes in the playoffs”. Not only did Jokić not choke, but he was noticeably better in the playoffs. He's a leader through and through. Couple of points more on average for Embiid means nothing. And as for defense, Jokić is absolutely a better overall defender than Joel Embiid. Embiid is a better time protector, but that's about it. Outside players humiliate him each and every game, especially come playoffs. Prior to this season and Jokic winning a championship, they had very similar careers and it amazes me how much the media favors Embiid. Embiid had never made the conference finals where Jokic had, they both struggled through missing teammates for one reason or another during seasons where they were both relatively favored to win their conferences. But all of these factors were somehow used to favor Embiid this year- Jokic’s lack of playoff success (ignoring going further in the playoffs than Embiid), media siding with Simmons issues over Murray and Porter injuries. I’m not surprised , but I am amazed.

How could it be so one sided when Giannis’s team was way ahead of everyone for most of the year, the Nuggets were number 1 in the West for the whole year? Embiid’s defense was great, but it wasnt so spectacular that it outshined Giannis’s defense. Jokic definitely was not bad defensively this year. Embiid was the leading scorer, averaging over 30, but is that so much more valuable than guys that averages more rebounds and assists with better records? @@simless282 this was a much better MVP choice compared to the Embiid vs Jokic though. In 2020, statistically Jokic was more or less the same as Giannis given that Jokic played more games. This time, Embiid only had ppg in his side given that he is a foul merchant who got exposed in the playoffs. You can ignore the playoffs part and still my point stands.

It does matter because we got screwed out of witnessing history. We could have watched a player get his 3rd straight for first time in 30years then top that off with a historic playoff run and Finals MVP. But too many people were more concerned about who did or didn't win 3 straight in the past instead of rewarding the person that truly had the best regular season.

Honestly, the dip in form for the Nuggets in the last 15 or so games of last season was two things; Jokic coasting to rest his body and Jokic tanking his mvp chances. The narrative had become so caustic (thanks Perk) that he knew if he won, it would get WORSE. All he wanted to do was win a championship for himself, his teammates, his coaches, team owners and fans. The mvp became a distraction and a potential threat to their focus in the playoffs. He intentionally tanked his mvp chances. He doesn’t care about individual accolades and he is good friends with Embiid anyway so let his friend get one while he gets the OTHER MVP award, which he did.

Jokic deserved to be voted for this year whether it's 1,2,3,4,5 it doesn't matter but he is and in fact within top 3 or top 5 this season consistently. It is a big disrespect to leave him out of voting. The hell, even other media personality that is against Jokic included him. For me that is pure disrespect from Mark Jackson and he should not give that crap excuse of him not remembering Jokic during voting. He owned his mistake but he is just proving the point of majority of ppl that even if you are deserving to be an MVP but the media doesn't want you, you will never win.

@@Chigz10 My point is that they recognize Jokic as a MVP caliber guy the previous years but won't give him the 3 consecutive MVP bcoz it is an elite company that even LeBron, Shaq, Steph, Kobe, KD, Giannis, etc. and other previous MVP cannot accomplish, eventhough he is very qualified to be MVP this year and rightully so. The argument here is that the MVP votes should not have been a landslide Victory for Embiid. Giannis and Jokic have been very solid this year, have better or almost equal team standings, bigger impact in team aspect or being the most valuable player on his team (on a loosing record when the main guy is not playing coz that was supposed to be what a MVP should be) and arguably better, in other aspects of the game compared to Embiid. But no, they even made an anti Jokic propaganda and Mark Jackson left out Jokic completely which is for me is blasphemy and super unprofessional. Embiid, Jokic & Giannis this season has been a 1a, 1b, 1c in my opinion and technically and statistically so. In that regards the MVP voting and result shouldn't be so one sided if it has been a fair voting to begin with. I am not bitter for Jokic not winning MVP this year bcoz 1 of these 3 players deserves it in my opinion but the voting should have reflected that they are on the same level this season, a very close race and not favor some1 so much. It is also a flaw in the system of voting for years to not have a standard criteria for voting so it will always be a questioniable award to begin with.
