Ice. Cold. The SNK809 was my first Seiko mechanical and really got me hooked. The strap was immediately stored and thanks the abundance of 18 mm straps on the market, it's become quite the chameleon. NATO, Perlon, Leather, and Silicon straps all look great on the '809 and in nearly any color. It's a little tank of a watch with a near-cult following. Worth noting on the '809: Not only does it check the box as a Field Watch, but if you forget the diminutive size for a moment, it also passes as a Flieger Type B, pilot's watch. Granted it's a stretch, but for a guy like me with a 6.75" wrist, I'll never be able to wear a genuine 45+ mm-sized Flieger watch. So this one checks off that 'look' in my watch collection. Another point: The '809 is also a gateway to the watch modding community. Want to really customize your watches? Start here. Its cheaper than trying to get your hands on a Seiko SKX series - that ship has sailed. Watch enthusiasts should all have at least one 7S26-equipped Seiko. The Seiko 5 Series has many great styles and sizes. They require your interaction by wearing them or giving it a few 'Seiko-Shakes' to get it going. This a great watch to share on your channel, Ben. Great choice.

The SNK809 was also my first mechanical watch. I have tried all sorts of 18mm straps on it but have found that I always end up going back to the stock black strap, I think it suits it better than the rest. With the satin finish on the case I don't like putting natos with the high polish silver buckles on it, and satin buckles are harder to find. I also think natos make it sit a little high on the wrist considering the watch is small. So my preference is a 2 piece strap with satin buckles, but it's so versatile you could put anything on it. I love how the SNK809 aesthetic follows the flieger watches of WWII but also has a nod to Seiko's RAF Gen 1 in its dimensions, and even has a sort of Sinn-esque tough look to it. It's a God-tier watch.

Ice Cold! I bought an SNK809 with the bracelet earlier this year for about $80 and I am impressed. The bracelet is better than the bracelet on my SNKL43. It is the perfect size to wear out in the hot summer. The lack of water resistance isn't a huge trade-off as I have an Orient diver for that.

Worn one of these for 4 years, and like others has gotten a large beating during that time. Had a steel bracelet for a while and at one point touched it on both the poles of a 190Ah lead acid battery that welded all the chain links together. The watch has a small dent now where the short happened, but oh man. It still runs like the day I bought it. Considering possibly a few hundred amps went through it I'm still amazed to this day.

Sweetheart, it is also a great fit for the big wrist. I also don't think it is disappointing that parts of the case are highly polished. On the contrary, this gives this watch its umpf, it's attractive look. A contrast to the rest of the matte finish. The beautiful shiny part in between the lugs corresponds with the shinny ring inside the bezel. An overall matte finish would make this watch a boring piece. And I prefer the thickness of this watch above a slim lined quartz version. This one has more body, more presence and with the 37mm size it is in great balance this way.

Love this watch! I've recently purchased higher tier watches but still this is the one I most often reach for in the morning. I think it is because of the small size and versatile dial. I have mine on a leather strap.

I have one like this. I changed the strap for a thick brown leather strap with white contrast stitching. Instantly became a favourite for everything except formal use. If I’m hanging around the water, I’ll wear a diver and with a suit, either a Seiko 5 with a guilloche dial or a vintage Certina or Tissot. The snk809 does everything else for me.

When your vision decreases only ever so slightly, you'll find the white background day and date discs MUCH more legible. On the black background, the day is almost unreadable, especially the Sunday. The blue SNK807 is so dark blue that it appears almost like black, but has the advantage of a much more legible day/date.

I started my addiction with Casios, and then moved on to Seiko, then Hamilton, then Oris, and then Tudor. And, through it all, I’ve retuned to Seiko for a couple of their newest Prospex releases for 2020. Why? Because Seiko is worth every penny in more ways than one. They’re horologically undeniable

I owned one of these for a few years. I immediately switched out the strap for a more expensive leather one. It was a good looking watch that caught many people's eyes. The lume was very good and I loved watching the ball on the second hand rotate around the axis. I have owned several Seiko 5's and they three basic problems: 1.) Some keep time relatively well while others do not, even after professional adjustment. 2.) The crystal scratches easily and marks are especially visible on watches with black dials. 3.) The metal bands are cheap and too lightweight for the somewhat heavy watches.

Ice cold. My first watch was a snkl43, and I still love looking at the back of it. Most Seiko 5's are so versatile and timeless, that you can have them in a budget 2 watch collection with a beater/diver. They can be dressed up, but also be a good casual piece.

I purchased my Seiko field watch in 2008 for £24.00 from a dealer in Singapore. It still keeps good time, I've had no issues and I rate it very highly. The strap is the original one, although the stitching wore through on the small leather re-enfocement. I removed that and it is still serviceable. I do prefer it to my cheap Lorus "Lumibrite" field watch simply because it fits my wrist better and is more comfotable. It goes right up there at the top as far as I am concerned.

I am so enamored of this watch that I have two of them. The green dial on a distressed leather bund strap (to further the B-Uhr dial motif) and the red dial version on a mesh metal bracelet to give it a bit of flash. As mentioned previously, for such an inexpensive automatic watch, it is remarkably accurate and is able to take quite a beating. Hardlex is satisfactory, but it will scratch, however one cannot expect a sapphire crystal at this price point. The provided strap is rather cheaply made and will wear out quickly, nor is it very comfortable. A quick change of the strap, however, will solve that problem easily! I would say this is definitely "Cool"!

Prior to getting a Seiko 5 I owned a real expensive,25 year old Omega Seamaster gold and stainless,(i purchased it new).I have had a Seiko 5 for about 6 months,The nice thing about it is it is very light, and has very good lume, you also get a lot of style for the price. The worse thing about it is it often stops in the night, the 40 hour reserve ......well lets say it is a very optimistic specification. That minor annoyance aside,i really like it,and am happy with it.

Hi Ben. Here's my huge issue with automatic watches: no hacking, no handwinding. My Orient Bambino does all three. I had to swap the automatic movement on my Seiko skx 009 for a nh36. Buyer's remorse on a watch I really wanted. I feel limited to quartz watches. This is okay, since I adore such watches as the Seiko Retro Perpetual. Stellar watch.
