I remember doing the 15 minute test ride on an early year Rev but wasn’t convinced. Something in the back of my mind kept telling this easy transition from sitting to standup riding is the answer. The next season I bought a Renegade 600 and never looked back.

I think the REV is even more important than we think because there are so many older guys and gals that snowmobile and maybe we wouldn’t still be riding if we had to ride the old sit down style sleds. I know I and my back greatly appreciate the rider forward style and probably wouldn’t be still riding without it.

My first REV, a 2004, (I still have it). Riding it at first was very awkward. Met a guy at a gas station with the same sled. He told me to put 500 miles on it and you will never go back. Boy, was he right. Went on a 200 mile day ride with a friend and our 3 teenage sons. After a bumpy ride they were all sore and I felt fine. I was convinced.

I still see first gen revs on the trail today, 20 years from when they came out. I own one and I don't feel the need to upgrade at all. Mostly because I like old stuff, but when people say "look at that old rev" I don't know what the heck they are talking about. It's a new sled as far as the geometry, to me anyway. Only issue was the bulkhead but the XP is the next best thing now. And that's 10 years old now as well. Time flies, but this is what we needed from Ski Doo.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - The 2003 REV single handily changed snowmobiling like nothing else in the past 40 years. 20 years since its intro and there’s still manufacturers trying to emulate it! Sure each one of the big 4 innovate but nothing was as pivotal in the industry as the REV. It caught everyone else off guard! I’m not even a Skidoo guy but I can admit it! Here’s to the next 20 years of snowmobiles!! 🍻🍻

From Doo's prehistoric Trailing Arm sleds to the REV in one model year. Ski-Doo improved. The Rev was a real game changer. Cat had A Arm front suspension for eons before the Rev and everyone else. A Arms suddenly became standard in 2003 on all manufacturer's products. Cat was first with real suspension, ..... Doo first for the rider forward concept. Both huge for the industry. Now all manufacturers have Double A-arm front suspension, rider forward design and we all get so much better snowmobiles. Cant wait to get my Catylist!! Another game changer....

I remember riding my MX-Z Renegade (Renegade was under the MX-Z banner back then) and coming upon a Bombardier rep on a REV prototype or early production sled. It was a WTF moment. Rick let me take it for a spin. Did not really know what to think of it at first. It wasn’t love at first ride. And I hated the truncated tunnel and beaver tail. BUT two seasons later it was Spring order Blair Morgan edition MXZ-X Renegade. Game changer. Never looked back. And Bombardier had listened and ditched the beaver tail.

To say ski doo has been the forfront for 20+ years is very for fetched, cat was the first to give the entire industry a arm front suspension, first to offer triple 900cc and a twin, 900 triple with the thundercat, first to offer batteryless efi, first to have 1000cc triple, and a successful 1000cc twin, pretty sure cat was the first ones to put a auto chain tensioner on there sleds, and the alpha rail, first to offer the 36 front end, hell polaris beat everyone to the punch on the belt drive and the find my buddy app on the 7s display!! yes rev with rider forward and panelling instead of a hood and bulkhead tub, and the etec with shot, and yes factory first turbo, and now the water/ethanol injection on low elevation sleds, but they were the last ones to stop using carbs on there sleds, ski doo always over wired everything when they brought in the zx chassis and nothing but wiring nightmares, the old rev summit had terrible bulkheads, the Sdi 1000 was pure garbage! The xm were a lot better I will give do that! The gen 4 and gen 5 they still haven’t figured out to keep a tie rod boot from letting snow pack in, the gen 4’s were terrible for paneling out while carving, and felt super boxy, compared to cat and polaris, so to say they’ve always been number 1 is far from the truth, yes I’ve rode them all from late 90’s till now, haven’t rode a gen 5 and just taken a matryx for a slide across a parking lot and own a 22 alpha 146, a 07 m6 and a 95 rxl
