Scientists taking water samples from the entire length of Long Island Sound found that nearly every sample contained microplastics, pieces of debris smaller than a pencil eraser.
And evidence is emerging that these microplastics particles can cause outsize harm to marine ecosystems and to human health, according to a study.
But the study of plastics in the Long Island Sound didn't discuss the harm.
