It is a mistake to use the term "Hasidim" as orthodox Jews in Hungary. Many (the majorityt) of orthodox Jews in Hungary were not "Hasisim" but what is known as "Status quo".

The Hungarians were brutal to the Jews in the 1940s as they sided with the Germans.

I fail to understand how Jews cling to Hungarian Jewish history and identity after the Holocaust (and frankly, was no paradise for Jews before either)? Are you by the way aware of Israel at all?

Secular Jews especially, were brought up in a patriotic culture appreciating the uniqueness and beauty of the Hungarian history, language, and literature. Many if not most Hungarian Jews were very proud of their Hungarianness. Even back in 1848 they sided with the Hungarian uprising against the Hapsburgs for which they paid a heavy price for years. Also in 1956 they were overrepresented and left after the unsuccessful uprising way above their percentage. AFAIK, even today, among Hungarian orthodox and hasidim, a coat or a hat made in Hungary is of great esteem (we still have garment making for Hasidim and kosher meat, wine industry exporting all over the world). Not even mentioning pilgrimage places in the Kingdom of Hungary, such as Kerestir, Pupa, Munkatch, Ujhel, Satmar (Szatmárnémeti). Today, almost all of the 100k Jews are secular and well integrated, and assimilating via marriages, who wanted to leave, left. Of course, there are not many young, but if they leave they leave for Germany, the US. Israel, not so much.
