Who else here is pleased with Jan's honesty? There is nothing criminal for a man in having appetite for women especially if he is single. In fact this is very natural for any normal man. And as he said he treats his women good and knows his boundaries. William just took advantage of his friend's naivety. He must be made to pay back this money. Only this way we can save the image Kenya. There are so many correct Kenyan who would partner up with foreign friends in business or other joint ventures.

One thing I learnt about my country Kenya & the world in general is , never show your emotions openly . If you love someone don't show it much , if you trust someone don't show it to them . Many people lurk in the shadows of friendship to manipulate or benefit in a way from others & such is life .

A friendship founded on business is better than a business found on friendship . Business and friends don't mix.

This is horrible, Kenyans need to rally behind this man to make sure that the thieves apartments are sold and this man's money recovered.. He pretended to be this man's brother but he was calculation how he would steal from this man. I trust this man's story 100%

This is heartbreaking.. For a Kenyan who have lived abroad and knows the kind of pain we go through. William, trust me, what you’ve done to Jan will destroy your life and you will never enjoy what you have achieved through injustice.. I was conned 1.2m by a Kenyan and sadly he collapsed and died before justice was brought against him .. William , you better pay every single coin you swindled Jan for no one gives you free money especially in a foreign country.. Shame on you !!

Lynn I live in Belgium. When you find a good Belgium who appreciates and loves you whole heartedly despite the color or where you come from that's humanity. Its hard being a foreigner but easy when the citizens love and appreciate you. Am a Kenyan living in Belgium I am in support of Jan and am not jealous. Belgium's are straight people majority of them just like we Kenyans. Abroad people really work hard with a lot of bills and taxes to pay not forgetting we rarely have leisure time. Mr. Murage is known here as chairman, history will tell alot. May justice prevail for Jan hope a Kenyan comes through for Jan.

Let's not allow William Murage to taint the image of Kenyans abroad because it's going to affect a lot of Kenyans living abroad , it's not easy to find a jungu who trusts a black person and they're not naive as most people think... justice for Jan Proost.

Jan is a comrade loved by many in Kasarani. We meet occasionally and discourse over beer. He shared his story with me the second time we met last year and I felt so sorry for him. William used this hardworking and kind person. One thing I respect about him even now, is that he has never shied away from his love of pretty ladies, and that doesn't make him any less of a kind person. I hope Jan's case is taken seriously by our judicial system so that foreigners can still feel comfortable investing in and with Kenyans.

All I know is that William might think he is smart but God is smarter..He knows what happened generation curses goes up to the fourth generation..he might get through but his family will not...he is just make the life of his kids to be hard...as for our mzungu you did your part you helped your "friend" whole and open heartedly, you trusted and cared God will avenge for you

As a Kenyan living in Belgium, am so embarrassed, this man should be sued and he should pay back everything because. Jan genuinely trusted him. It's. Sad.

Hi Lynn, if there are no documents for evidence on the documentation as proof of how the 17 containers were shipped ( shipper & consignee) you can retrieve the bills of lading from the forwarding company that prepared the bills of lading in Belgium prior to shipping the sofas to Kenya, even the shipping line used to ship the 17 containers can be used to trace the bill of lading...justice must be prevail for Jan .thank you Lynn for this interview it's really insightful and lessons to learn 👌

This guy calculated each move with Jake. Even those private conversations say it all. He knew exactly what he was doing. And that's what foreigners go through. They put trust so quickly. Because that's their nature. I live with them. They believe your word.

Documentation is key. I feel sorry for Mr. Jan, and hope he gets through this ordeal.

I will never trust a friend with money.....we make mistakes at the same time we learn lessons.....

If Jan was wasteful, he couldn't not have invested that much. He saved his money for many years, and obviously he was worried about getting old without income. Telling us how many relationships he has had is too petty, he isn't complaining about that, and its not an issue to him either. Its good to give him what he deserves. Suffering in a foreign country is very distressing. I hope Jan will have a good life in Kenya.

We always advice international investors to go through their embassy or high commission and follow the international trade processes - which may including working with a chamber of commerce. You always have better protection than going it alone with "a friend". Also, never do business with an individual in a country. Make sure they have a legally registered entity with legitimate paperwork and audited accounts. If they refuse to share their documents RUN! This Belgian man should engage the Belgian embassy in Kenya and go to town on the conmen, because that man is not working alone.

Listening to this story reminds me of money I lost this year, approximately 900k. This was a rough time for me. I cried and asked God so many questions. I was already down before loosing this money and I dint understand how lower I could go. It was like punching an already dead person. The man behind it talked calmly as if it's no big deal. He assured me everything is okay till to date not even a coin has been paid. I was in a very bad financial situation before this and this was the last nail on the coffin. But I know I serve a living God. His time is coming.

Thank you Lynn so so much for bringing this story. Just the other day we were discussing about foreigners being duped here and it's sad. this are human beings. This William guy has lost all grounds to advise and all his advise are malicious and not true...plus he is misleading. Jan Proost has his rights and should engage legally way forward. This is criminal and William should be put to account. For me William is trying to vindicate himself but truth is he has duped this guy. Him advising him to marry was very clear from audio because he insinuating it was for purposes of settling here Kenya and to win his trust. Jan's drinking, and moral conduct is non of Williams concern, this guy is an adult and out of the money issue.

YOU CAN STILL TAKE THIS CRIMINAL TO COURT AND CHARGE HIM THEFT BY DECEPTION

Stories like this open eyes and gives insight into how fraudsters operate. My son started working when he was 16 years old part time and full time during holidays. William needs to remember he has children.

One thing I love in this story is that there's already enough evidence to prove Jan's case. The call recordings really tells it all who's talking the truth. The right of reply given to Murage,wraps everything up,it again reveals who's telling a lie and this is crystal clear to everyone, including our courts suppose the matter reaches there. There may be lacking document evidence to support Jans claims, but luckly enough there are recordings, and witnesses,like Jan's sister whom they visited murage's home in belgium and found the wife..I know and believe that justice will prevail in this issue,I believe there are good lawyers who can assist Jan, and I believe every proof Jan's has is admissible in our courts. It's so unfortunate that some people deliberately make wrong decisions thinking they'll never pay,but they bring curses and unending sorrow to their children upto the 4th generation unless they repent and get delivered from curses brought to them by their parents. God is a just God. I hope the offender repents, do what he's supposed to do,and seek peace.

My cousin and his friends planned and conned me through a tender and I lost 5million, the money that some belonged to my friend's whom we invested on the cereal tender together. It brought a lot of mistrust and am still battling it in court and almost giving up because our kenyan justice system is ssickening. Lesson learned, not everyone loves your progress and never trust even your own shadow.

I was conned by someone i know na akanambia niende kwenye naenda juu hatanilipa.I did exactly what he said and right now ako kwa wheelchair and i made sure he knows am responsible. I wish people knew how difficult it is kupata pesa esp if you're hustling.

Lesson of day! Ladies and Gentlemen always have a legal written contract when doing business with anyone including friends and family especially when money and land is involved no matter how small or insignificant it seems.
