We grow cricket bat willows on our farm along ditch lines and in water meadows that would be useful for nothing it’s also good for the wild life . Also we do a shoot and arable farming

Olly. Fascinating. Thank you for the insight.. hadn't realised how much the Farm is dedicated to the horses and the equine industry. It is odd how farming has changed over the last 30 years or so. Diversity is indeed the new order. Tourism, leisure and the continued stewardship of the environment. Two important issues spring to my my mind. 1/ Brexit is an outright disaster for [so-called] British farming. Sold a pack of lies by Johnson and his cronies. One can only hope that your generation can correct this dreadful situation and get British farming back centre stage in Europe. 2/ The Environment is paramount and farmers by and large do a really fantastic job of taking care of the countryside. However, with an ever increasing population and urban enclaves, somehow you farmers will be expected to feed the UK. We, as consumers, have to appreciate exactly what you farmers do and pay accordingly. I despair when i overhear comments from people in supermarkets complaining milk is over £1.30 or whatever. And then walk out and climb into a £50k SUV! It is not them up at 4am to milk 200 + cows or indeed dealing with a breached calf at 2am either. We need to start appreciating farming again and wake up to paying a proper price to sustain your incredible endeavours and knowledge. Thank you. Stay focused and safe.

In my personal opinion Jhon Deere isn’t a premium brand. It all depends on what model of tractor you get and what spec. I don’t think there are premium brands. There are more reliable brands aka new Holland case Jhon Deere fendt massy.

What you said about farming is true, you have to run it like a business , but the pit fall is , you cannot pass on your cost to anyone .

Maybe you need to think the animal land relationship and wean off the hay side of things. Rotational grazing daily without housing the livestock using the low production fields for pasture rotation with value planning of the livestock to increase your returns. Grazing sheep and cattle together as there food needs are different, rotation daily will reduce parasites and health of the animals. Just a thought.

Lets hope not all farmers start farming for the enviroment and not cropping their land, we would have nothing to eat and have to import it all. Farming will always involve growing food the human race cannot live on "the enviroment". No need to panic buy just yet.

"Farming the enviroment" just sounds like government hand outs to me, it's a shame the uk farmers are heading towards not producing anything just being another service industry
