The beluga which replaced the super guppy is now the biggest transport plane ever built. It is built by Airbus. 7.1 metres in width and 6.7 metres in height and owns the “world's largest interior representation of any transport aircraft

I've seen this aircraft, while in the Air Force, in 1969, on the tarmac opened up. Truly strange looking wondering how it even flies.

I absolutely freaked the heck out once about 15 years ago when I was a truck driver, I was getting unloaded in the industrial park area next to the airport in El Paso when I turned around and one of THESE was taking off. And I knew what it was because when I was about 10 years old I read about them in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Это Советский самолет, построенный в 1988 году для транспортировки корабля многоразового использования "Буран" на Байконур в Казахстане. Этот самолёт достался Украине после распада СССР. За 30 лет на Украине не смогли повторить подвиг советских конструкторов и авиастроителей, и построить второй такой же самолёт. В 2022 году этот самолёт сгорел в ангаре во время боевых действий.

Это советский самолёт, Ан-225 выкатили из сборочного цеха 30 ноября 1988-го. Менее чем через месяц состоялся первый полет. Самолет провел в воздухе более часа и успешно приземлился. Реальные характеристики полностью совпали с расчетными, а летчики-испытатели назвали "Мрию" очень удачной машиной. В марте 1989-го Ан-225 взлетел уже с 156-тонным грузом на борту, а в мае того же года "Мрию" уже использовали по прямому назначению: самолет доставил на Байконур космический челнок "Буран" весом 60 тонн.

For the first plane I'd expect it not to run on prop engines. Anyway in the future all these models will be obsolete and in major museum hangers/ fields for historical records and the future generations to go view them ☺️😁🤪

Nope. The Super Guppy was built for NASA by a California based company from old KC-97 Stratotanker Aircraft. Airbus purchased the aircraft to haul wings from England and some fuselage sections from Hamburg Germany to be flown to Toulouse. When I worked there, there were 6 Super Guppy's. While I was working in Toulouse, the Beluga was commissioned to be built by a company on site called Sergoma. The Super Guppy took 14-16 hours to remove and replace the fasteners and control cables to open and close the nose for unloading and loading. The Beluga has a squat feature to lower load height and the large bulb that opens up toward the sky. The Beluga was built from A-300-600 aircraft, powered by General Electric CF6-80C engines.
