Wizards and Warriors Channel sci-fi animated documentary lore video series on the Star Wars galaxy will continue with the second episode on the Galactic Civil War, as in the aftermath of the battle of Scarif ( • Battle of Scarif - Gal... ) the rebel alliance got its hand on the Death Star plans uncovering its weakness. After of the destruction of Alderaan, Princess Leia Organa assisted by Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO brought it to the alliance leadership with Darth Vader, Wilhuff Tarkin and the Death Star in pursuit, which led to the famous battle of Yavin ( • Battle of Yavin - Gala... ). The victory at Yavin allowed the Rebels to find new allies in Mon Calamari and their Mercantile fleet helped them create their fleet. However, the empire was still hunting the Rebels, which led to the battles of Vrogas Vas and Mako-to, where the Empire regained ground ( • Rebels Build a Fleet -... ), forcing the rebels into the Mid Rim Retreat which led to the battle of Hoth in 3 ABY ( • Battle of Hoth - How I... ). In the aftermath of Hoth, the rebels were forced to continue their retreat, but various groups like the 61st Mobile Infantry (Twilight Company) continued fighting the Empire, leading to the strategically important battle of Inyusu Tor on the planet Sullust ( • What Happened between ... ). With these minor victories, the Rebels, who learned that the Emperor is building a new Death Star, had a new opening to attack the Empire, which led to the battle of Endor ( • Battle of Endor - Gala... ). Emperor Palpatine died during the battle of Endor, but he had ordered Operation Cinder beforehand. This operation was emperor's revenge, as he wanted to destroy both the rebels, who killed him and the imperials who failed to protect him. Then infamous Shadow Wing was in charge of portions of this operation and was countered by the Republics Alphabet Squadron and the Barma Battle Group under Hera Syndulla. Their confrontation led to the battles of Pandem Nai, Cerberon and Troithe ( • Operation Cinder - Emp... ). The final battle of the Galactic Civil War would be fought near Jakku, as the New Republic finally found a way to end the empire ( • Battle of Jakku - End ... ). But that was not the end of the story. The empire dissolved in many factions and among them, grand admiral Thrawn arrived to the scene, becoming the heir of the empire ( • Original Thrawn Story ... ). Both the New Republic and the Grand Admiral were now looking for the Katana Fleet - two hundred Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers launched by the Galactic Republic during its final decades of existence, as part of an attempt to restore the Republic Navy to its long-gone glory ( • How Thrawn Rebuilt His... ). Taking the fleet, allowed Thrawn to expand his operations and threaten the New Republic even more, leading to the battle of Qat Chrystac.

I think this battle proved just how formidable Star Destroyers really are. It was due to notable victories scored by the Rebellion such as at Endor and Scarif, that fans have been given the impression that Imperial Star Destroyers are nothing more than paper tigers. That though they may look terrifying, they are actually terrible warships that don't hold up against a determined Rebel attack, and especially against Mon Calamari Cruisers, they are no match. But the truth is Star Destroyers are extremely powerful capital ships that pack far more firepower than anything the Rebels can field. Most Imperial captains and admirals were too overconfident in the perceived invincibility of their mighty ISDs and would rush into battle believing the Rebels could not stand against them. But when commanded by a more competent officer like Thrawn, even just a few of them (especially when they are backed up with support ships) can turn the tide of any battle even against greater odds.

ISDs were built for capital ship vs. capital ship combat and bombarding planets into submission, hence their apocalyptic levels of heavy firepower. Where they suffered was in repelling small but powerful starfighters and bombers like the Y-Wing and B-Wing. This could be overcome via a strong screen of TIE Fighters, but the ISD 2 lacked strong TIE Fighter complements and generally TIE pilots were not match for Rebel pilots, who had superior ships. Thrawn was aware of this issue, which is why he advocated for the Empire to field TIE Fighters like the TIE Defender, which could, in the hands of a capable pilot, deal with X-Wings, A-Wings and so on.

I wish that their firepower was put more on display, though. I’ve never seen an ISD with 100% of its turbo lasers and cannons blazing away. At best, I’ve seen only 5-10%. When they’re slugging it out broadsides with a Rebel capital ship, I wanna see the ISD spewing out non stop laser slag, from at least half its guns. Instead, we get pewpew, pew, pewpew, pew, pew, pewpew. Wtf? A corvette fires more than an ISD. An ISD should be OVERPOWERING everything. And for close in snub fighters, maybe have a turbolaser version of the US Navy’s CIWS or the USAF’s M-61 gatling cannon. It’s kinda stupid they just sit there like an out-of-bullets wall. Annoying.

Personally I never liked the Yuuzhan Vong story arc. It (and frankly many of the now Legends stories) don't really fit with the Star Wars universe rules. For example; the concept of Palpatine being aware of the incoming Vong invasion and creating the Empire mainly to counter it, and the Vong being "outside" of the Force, just doesn't work! That being said, there are elements of Legends content I personally do like. Thrawn is a perfect example. Though the Ysalamiri from the Heir to the Empire trilogy again breaks the rules of how the Force is supposed to work.

@@tknispel Palpatine never created the Empire with the purpose of defending against the Vong. He created it because he wanted power. It was Thrawn who informed him about the Vong, long after the Empire was established.

Between the Third Republic and the Empire reborn under Thrawn, which one sounds better? After all, it has been said that the Empire under Thrawn will be the one without anti-alien persecution and definitely will not have a bunch of psychopaths as high-ranking military officers. Meanwhile, the Third Republic is divided two major factions and full of incompetence. So I think the choice here will be quite obvious. But really, I just wanted to hear you all say it.

The Republic,having JUST got in power. Are already corrupt. The old Republic, and likely the new Republic, were built around exploring the rim to profit the core. The Empire actually manages worlds I sectors, so each world gets seen to and managed to function properly. Even under the Emperor. Life was good for the average worker Sure urs a Tyrant, but the average guy has no idea about Sith stuff, so just see him as an effective ruler. And unless your planet is a hotbead of rebel activity (alderaan), you don't really have anything to worry about

I am glad and thankfull, that you continue the series (although we all know that the end will be sad). However there may be some minor mistakes. As far as I remember the cloaked ships were no Dreadnought-cruiser but lighter cruiser, and though during the battle with Iblis the Imperials did receive serious hits, at least in my version of the book there is no definitive word about the destruction of one or much less two Stardestroyers (although one ship did drift away). Since Zahn did treat these ships in his books always different than quite some other authors and let them die only very reluctantly, I think it is likely that they were serious damaged, but not destroyed.

Glad to see the continuation of Thrawn in Star Wars Legends. I still believed the galactic map would be better with the planets superimposed on a template based on the The Essential Atlas galaxy maps. I also hope to more continuations of current lore videos, and new ones maybe from the Cosmere or anime/manga.

@@jonbaxter2254 didn't bother watch to be honest. The books and comics since 2014 have been diabolical, the sequel trilogy was terrible. Endured the High Republic and it's victim host. I did actually enjoy 2 seasons of the Mandalorian, Gina Carano got sacked and have never watched anything Star Wars related since.

I stopped watching anything disney poisones. Rogue1 and maybe Solo were my last movies. I only do fan films, lore channels, comics, audiobooks, and novels - I thought mostly BBY, but I didn’t know Thrawn showed up at this point. I thought he got beaten BBY and either died or hid. So he’s made a comeback??

@@ronjon7942 the original "sequel trilogy" books was written in 1991. It was given the name the Thrawn trilogy. It's set 5 or 7 years after Return of the Jedi and Thrawn is commanding the remnant of the Imperial Navy.

What I love about og Thrawn (not whatever that was in Ahsoka) is he is smart, but not a God. He reasons himself out of traps and bad situations, and uses real tactics from our history to encircle, outflank or defeat enemy formations, even when grossly outnumbered. He is like the Hannibal of space.

When you think about, if you were to bring star wars commanders to lead a real military from WW2 onwards, only a countable number of them in the old and new canons would be competent enough to go up against even moderately skilled commanders and even fewer would be considered highly skilled.

Ya, I hope everyone listening to this, can understand the power of Zahn. He created these characters. Made books that could’ve been easily turned into amazing movies…but no. Disney chose to give this power to a bunch of art rapists. These books were never trying to be Star Wars 2.0 and 3.0. They were books that showed how the empire had worked previously and how it was operated on a thin crust, that when broken, caused complete collapse. It used new characters to explain the past present and future history of this galaxy…and it’s all laid out for Disney on a Hutt sized platter. But no, they decided to transmogrify all the artists true intentions and yoink these great books for all they are worth. Very sad. Oh well. All that said…I love this channel and this series!!! Warms my heart.

This is the old heir to the empire series of books by Timothy Zahn. So Thrawn at his very best. But the newer Zahn books such as the Thrawn trilogy and the Ascendancy trilogy are still worthwhile reads. Though the older ones are probably what you want.

@@mill2712 I think both the New Thrawn Trilogy and the Ascendancy Trilogy are both pretty good, but I prefer the latter because it's farther away from the other Disney stuff and I'm always up for exploring new regions of the galaxy.
