The thing I really like about this trend is how nasty the kills/deaths can be. In the Tiktok videos, you can see people coughing out purple liquid as they are dying. I remember seeing one where after the guy ate the Grimace Shake, he literally exploded. I feel like that is extremely awesome.

Not many people know this but, im a survivor. I got the new meal, excited to try it out. I drank the shake and was hospitalized for weeks, doctors didn’t think I’d live. I’m glad that I can share my story to everyone.

Same. It had the same side effects as shown as a form of poison, as I was pretty much spewing a BUNCH of the grimace shake, and my body was in agonizing pain. Someone was able to find me and take me to the hospital, and almost died. Thank god im still alive.

I think the worst thing to come out of the whole Grimace birthday thing is that McDonald's was allowed to take over the McDonald's Wiki, a *fan-made and fan-operated and thus 100% unofficial wiki*, and turn it into yet another advertisement vehicle. Like put it all over your website and social medias as you like, but don't turn fan sites that you don't own into your ad space. The fact that Fandom (the most well-known wiki host) even allowed this to happen... not entirely surprising for them, but come ON, that's low even for them.

Longtime fandom editor here. Fandom wikis can sometimes enter official partnerships with the studio/developer/whatever that their wiki is based around. The two would then work closely together. I'm unsure if that's the case with the McDonald's wiki as that's not really a wiki I can say I've ever known to exist but that would explain fandom allowing it, if so. The wiki remains fan-made, but has some perks.

@@angorahm4640 I think I know what you mean, but from what little I can tell as an outsider who's just seen screenshots of that wiki's Grimace article and the corresponding talk page, I'm suspecting this is not quite the same sort of situation. The wiki's site theme seems to have been forcibly changed to fit Grimace specifically instead of what I imagine it might be if it were themed around McDonald's as a whole, there is evidence that a lot of factual information on that specific page was removed and replaced with birthday promotional copy, and it appears that the admins are pissed about the whole thing with one calling it "paid vandalism". Granted I think there'd still be a big stink about it even if McDonald's had been officially partnered with the wiki since day one, but as far as I can tell (and I admittedly could be wrong) they barged in years after the wiki's creation just to promote their special birthday offerings without a care for why wikis exist in the first place. ... Sorry for the ramble there ^^;

I checked out the wiki and it's definitely a little rough, the edit history does also show Grimace's page being wiped in favor of what the fandom staff replaced it with. It looks like the admins were messaged about a partnership in October of 2022 explaining what would happen (which is basically exactly what happened with Grimace) but I don't see where either admin actually agreed to it (with one flat out saying not interested) and the McDonald's fandom lacks the "official" badge that all partners earn so... something definitely seems off about this whole situation. Luckily the message also stated it should only be less than a month before things are rolled back to their original state.

This really says a lot about how Grimace and other older McDonald’s mascots returning really says a lot about how this is truly one of the best comebacks of all time, the recent ads themselves literally remind me of an older nostalgic and a bit uncanny 90s commercial. ✊

Many of the old McDonald’s McDonaldland characters were retired after after Sid and Marty Kroft sued McD’s ad agency for copyright infringement. Seems the agency contacted the Krofts about using HR Pufnstuf characters in a McD’s ad campaign, then nixed the plan in the middle of negotiations and introduced the McDonaldland ad campaign with Ronald and Mayor McCheese, who resembled HR Pufnstuf himself. The Krofts sued and won, and characters like Mayor McCheese and Officer Big Mac were phased out of McD’s advertising and restaurants.

I like to imagine it turns their blood into whatever the shake is where something then harvests it to be reused. It would explain why some of the victims are still alive with the milkshake splattered everywhere if they were found hours later even though were likely drinking the shake the whole day. The shake doesn’t kill them, it just stops their function long enough for whatever is killing them to do its job. Clearly it’s pretty bad at it though because it leaves a lot of it behind.

the funny thing is that it started with someone saying"haha its purple so lean!" which spiraled into a entire trend, where from my own research the results of the grimace shake are mostly addicion and general overdosing can kill

Pretty sure this meme gave me my first nightmare in YEARS. Basically some guy exploded into blood??? (I didn’t see it, but I knew that was what happened) At first I thought it was sort sort of ARG or something like that, but I slowly realized it was real. There was something in the tapwater and food, and I couldn't avoid it. Anyways, the trend is very effective horror, because of what it leaves to the imagination. It also acts as free advertising for McDonald's, both so that people will get it for the trend and just out of curiosity of what the shake is.
