Good video I was chasing a vibration and found my umi torque arm was hitting the driveshaft safety loop bolt. I bolts were on the 2nd hole from top and I moved it down to the 2nd hole from bottom much better and set my pinion angle at 2 degrees. Still a little vibration but way better than it was. I'm assuming it's because I have a poly trans mount and stock motor mounts. Gonna switch out that trans mount to stock rubber and see if it makes another difference and gets rid of vibration entirely

Just installed your arm and crossmember. You need to update your instruction sheet !!! It says to used driveshaft angle and pinion angle which would be totally wrong. In my 89 the driveshaft actually raises from the trans to the diff. If I followed the directions with the kit, the pinion would be severely nose down !! It also states the crossmember bolts are M8. They are M10.

So if my crank pulley is 3.55 degrees. Do I just subtract -2.0 degrees so I would end up with 1.55 degrees at rear-end?

Yes not for the street though, the -2 degrees pinion angle setting is mostly for the strip where max traction happens and the pinion moves for the street, street tires you're better off with a -1 setting or even equal if you could add weight in the cabin or have someone sit in it to simulate weight in the cabin it would be better.

@ UMI I have the 95 Z28 vibration at starting at 65 acceleration to 80. Crest a hill top put car into natural on down hill side vibration stops. This car is new to me. On service I had both u joints replaced and vibration is less but I want zero vibs. **Note pinion seal leaking CRITICAL THINKING: The car didn't shake off the show room floor. RUMORS: aluminum drive line fixes , + 1.5 pinion angle fixes, new torque arm bushing don't fix. What happens over time with suspension control arms? Do they have bushing mounts? Car has 130k miles. Does anybody have knowledge of this common issue with the 4 gen Camaros and a no bullshit fix? I could spend thousands and still not fix the real issue. Thanks

Dont you want negative between driveshaft and pinion? He set transmission output shaft and pinion negative in this video. Dony you want those parallel?
@umiperformance
@umiperformance 2 жыл бұрын
The way the video describes, the pinion and crankshaft will end up parallel under load. The angle starts slightly negative and then ends up proper under accel. Also, there are many factors so the number doesn't have to be exact. You can contact us at support@umiperformance.com if you're having any trouble.

Would my mechanic know to do this ?

I doubt it unless you include the instructions.

So what if your driveshaft runs up from the transmission to the rear axle? is the procedure the same? My car is lowered and the pinion sits above the transmission output.
@umiperformance

I've never had that exact question before. I would start with the pinion nose about 1/2 degree down in front and check for vibration. Since we're looking for a range and not an exact number you should be good to go there.

@@umiperformance ok thanks. I can only get my transmission ti about 2.7 degrees (tail down) and it is right on the tunnel. When I do the math using the Tremec calculator online the 1 degree up angle of the driveshaft adds to the transmission tailshaft making the angle 3.7 degrees which seams to high. I guess I could raise the ride height to help the driveshaft angle.

@@mikeschanel6165i literally have this same problem as the added length of the turbo 400/gear vendors combo in my 4th gen causes the driveshaft to run up to the rear pinion. guess ill try both ways (pinion down vs pinion up)

@tubbytownsend that's what I did, kept adjust either way until I found a sweet spot. Still has some vibration but much better. I'm looking at installing a 9" rear axle so the pinion will sit lower, helping the angles

@mikeschanel6165 i have a S60. right now i have 1.7 degrees down on the tail, so i am going to set the rear to .3 pinion up (figuring 1.4ish degree difference since i have rod end suspension) try to be in the middle and see what it does. had a vibration starting from around 105mph to 135mph at the track. hoping this helps

This is a much better video on explaining pinion angle adjustment than BMR’s video. They have you measure the driveshaft which makes no sense.
