Hi my name’s Dave from The Field Group Accounting and in this video I’ll be walking you through how to get access to online services for business which is replacing the old Business Portal. The Business Portal will be available until later in the year to give you time to change over to Online services for business.
Online services for business offers a range of new features such as:
- making a payment plan
- obtaining copies of income tax returns
- quickly navigating between the ABNs you manage
- And viewing your communication history with the ATO
Registering for online business services requires you to have a myGovID, and as such is not something an accountant can do on your behalf. So simply follow this guide to get set up. To apply for access to online services for business it’s a 3 step process.
Step 1 is ensuring that you have a mygovID. Note that myGovID is different from myGov.
myGovID is an app. You download the myGovID app to your smart device. It lets you prove who you are and log in to a range of government online services, including myGov.
myGov is an account. Your myGov account lets you link to and access online services provided by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Centrelink, Medicare and more.
You can essentially think of mygovID as your key into your government accounts. If you already have a mygovID you can skip to step 2.
Step 2 is to link your myGovID to your business using the Relationship Authorisation Manager. Head to the online services for business page here - onlineservices.ato.gov.au/bus..., click login and then use your myGovID to sign in. Click on the Link an ABN button which will take you to the Relationship Authorisation Manager. Click on link your business and you’ll be given a phone number to contact - call this hotline and make a request to link your business to your myGovID for online services for business. On the call you will need to provide your business ABN and personal details for proof of identity check. Once completed, the hotline should send you an email with a unique Authorisation request code. Copy this and head back to the Relationship authorisation manager where you can enter the code. You’ll then be shown details about the business you’re linking. Read the declaration terms and check the box once if you agree with the terms. You’ll then be taken to a page which shows the businesses linked to your myGovID.
For step 3, simply sign out of the relationship authorisation manager, and head back to the online services for business login page. Login using your myGovID and you’ll now have access to online services for your business.
