Since this is a loved comment and people will read, I'd like to add that javascript can de-anonymize you, even when using tor. Make sure that your browser is set to safest (click the shield icon in the top left) and that javascript is disabled. type "about:config" in the search bar and set javascript-enabled to false.

It's actually pretty straightforward once you understand the difference between symmetric and asymmetric encryption but some of the tools, especially the command line ones, have a steep learning curve. You can always use a VM (which isn't perfect, bur far better than going in "raw") ans trying to avoid sites that are sketchy

@@boscodomingo to add to this, keep an eye on your active connections in whatever browser the tails VM uses by default (idr if it's in the browser or in the OS gui). If something pops up there, it means that someone or some program is trying to access your info. If you see it, terminate the connection or reroute your tor nodes to a different location.

Install the tor package and edit the /etc/tor/torrc file.

Works temporarily but bridges become known after a certain amount of time because there's no way to hide Tor usage from governments with DPI capabilities. There aren't many countries where Tor's illegal anyway.

Yes. Technically it would be an extra level of security. Like OP said in video the anonymity of Tor and encryption provided is far greater than that of a VPN. I believe the Tor browser even has an additional VPN option with it. That being said encryption can be decrypted and, like you said, it’s not going to hurt anything having an additional level of security or protection. When big hacks occur and the FBI or agencies try and trace them they find the hacker has multiple VPNs making it extremely difficult to trace to the actual source. They pass through one VPN only to find another and so on and so forth. So you could make the argument for them like ‘well there’s no reason to use a second VPN if you already have one’… well what happens if someone gets past that level of encryption. So in general, yes it would just be extra security. How necessary is it? It just depends what you’re doing I suppose.

Apart from that, the dark web surfing can give to "a normal person" a great impression and lesson why this kind of shit is forbidden, illegal and tabooed and why they should avoid it for their own sanity.

I'm not much of a techie, but i guess it depends on your and your ISP's equipment, the internet infrastructure in your state and in the area you live in. Tor connections require many-many all over the world jumps of small data packets, and it benefits to live in the ISP infrustructure and Tor nodes dense area like the US or Europe. My Tor connections also don't impress me with the speed. For example, i usually have the ping in online games in about 100-200 ms range, so it adds up with every packet jump to many seconds. American ping is usually about 20 ms or so, and many Tor nodes are also in America, so yeah, that helps.

And you were also told in the same sentence that it's not a good idea.
