This is genuinely some of the best acting advice I have ever been given… it’s very easy for me to cathartically express my emotions outside of an acting setting, and usually when I am thinking to much about how I feel or If I’m showing the right emotion it tends to make not even be able to express that feeling… but when I put the focus on the characters speaking to me and how I want to make them feel it comes effortless 👍💛

Thank you for the tips! Super helpful! I always find that anger and shouting matches come so much easier for me in scenes than, for example, crying or laughing. I think it's because, since I laugh and cry more in real life than yell, it's easier for me to disconnect my own self when I'm angry. I feel less like myself and more like the character, if that makes any sense.

Keira, I’m halfway through Declan’s book and it’s genius. All that makes us emotional comes from outside ourselves and our external stimuli, then we regurgitate it back towards the source of what’s causing us to feel. It’s a great technique to help getting out of your head and instead figuring out objectives and purpose of the scene and what you’re trying to get from the other person. Nice video!!

I love this technique, you see some great actors that can be emotional but they are still disconnected from the scene. This is about listening, knowing the given circumstances and creates better chemistry if in a scene with someone else!

Most people don't really pay attention.. even inspiring actors don't pay attention to their 5 senses.. if you are engaged with your senses, you will be present in the moment and the emotions will come naturally.. many actors overthink, have no goal in mind in scene.. always subtext.. what is the end result you are looking for as the character.. when you focus on the process the emotions come as a result.. when you are after the result the emotions don't form

How would you recommend responding in a scene if someone asks you "What do you truly want here?" and your character doesn't quite know, so they have to pause a moment and ponder. Do you look inwards? Or do you keep only looking outwards? Great video, thank you!
@aliciatherese-castiglioni3940
@aliciatherese-castiglioni3940 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm no professional teacher, but I have received some advice from one of the lessons I took. How would you react? You'd probably ponder and try to come to a realisation. Make sure that you have character thoughts going through your mind, not actor thoughts, but have them influenced by your thoughts as a person. Eg. You (as the character) may be searching for an answer in your mind, but are unable to find it. You wouldn't be thinking "Should I ponder here?" or "Should I stare in thought?" as a person, so why do that as a character?. That emotion, discovery or searching will come across in your eyes when you think about it. Don't THINK too much about what you're doing as the actor, just breathe and do, be present and in the moment, these reactions will come naturally. Sorry this is so far in the future, but I hope this helps for any other scenes that may require this :)

I struggle with the whole “cry on cue” thing. I find this harder on screen than stage. On stage you’ve got time to work up to the moment (“the moment before” is usually lived through first). However, often times on screen you’re just asked to be in a teary mess from “action”. In the examples you’ve given, the actor is able to work off the actions and dialogue of their scene partner, but what if there is no scene partner in the scene? What if the character is just in her private space processing the grief of something that happened that day eg. A funeral. How do you use this technique then? Haha - questions from a struggling working actor (glad to be working tho! Haha)- I actually have been given such a scene and the shoot is in two weeks! Thanks!

Great advice. Getting your mind off yourself can stop you from locking down and getting blocked by feeling you're not getting the emotion. Putting it on the other person and giving it a point of view will fuel both the relationship and your emotions. BUT...what do you do if you are alone on screen and you have to come up with a certain emotion? imagine a scene partner and use the same technique? Sounds plausible...
