Thanks for explaining it a bit further. I was having a real hard time looking at the stone & acid bead itself. All I could see was a black blob. Looking at your drops, they look as black as mine! I've watched people testing and they seemed to just look and know. I was sure my acid was bad. But now I'll try again and see if I can make it work. When they say it might show as creamy white, how will you see that? Now, if I can just get used to my Kee gold tester, I'll be in business!
@TheFinderGuy4 ай бұрын
No problem! I’m not sure about the creamy white, I haven’t heard that. Gold can definitely be tricky, especially with heavily plated items

That's how I test as well. I don't know if you have heard this but I have been told these acids only have a short shelf life. Once opened a few months. Have you noticed or heard this? I wondered because I have done a couple of tests on known items and they failed. My acids are 2 years old. Ill order some new and retest. Thanks for posting,,,
@TheFinderGuy Жыл бұрын
That’s interesting! I have not heard that, but I’ll definitely check for sure. My acids are relatively new, but I’m interested to see how they react with age. Thanks for the info!

Many people use the 18k but for accurate results and to know the purity of silver you are checking ,the silver solution is best but it can be complicated to understand, which makes sense why people use the 18 k.

Would that show another color ? I’m new at this 🧐
@TheFinderGuy10 ай бұрын
@peggipenfold4580 not really, it’s likely that there wouldn’t be anything on the tissue afterwards. But if there is, and it’s not red, it’s probably not solid silver

Hello, I just watched your video and I have a question, so what brand or name is that Acid that you're using?
@TheFinderGuy9 ай бұрын
I just use the acid that’s meant for testing silver in the precious metal testing kits they sell on Amazon. I believe it contains nitric and muriatic acid
@joeyl.rowland41538 ай бұрын
@@TheFinderGuyno not nitric and muriatic(aqua regia) What you have is known as Schwerter's solution. Concentrated nitric acid 3/4 of one ounce, water 1/4 ounce and I believe 1 gram of potassium dichromate. There are videos that show you how to make it. I believe Sreetips on KZfaq has a video. Hope this helps.

@@joeyl.rowland4153 thanks for the info…. I was just saying what I read on the bottle of the acid I use.
@joeyl.rowland41538 ай бұрын
@@TheFinderGuy I see. The reason I know is aqua regia will almost immediately precipitate silver chloride(looks like snow in the liquid) Schwerter's turns red, the more pure your silver the more it will look like blood. At 800 fine silver it will appear brown red. Doesn't work well on 500 fine.
