How to Add a Lining to an Unlined Skirt Pattern, Tutorial, Step by Step Sewing

Hello everyone. Today I am sharing a little how to on lining a skirt. Many skirt patterns are not lined but it is really easy to add a lining so i hope this helps some of you. Let me know in the comments how you get on. Thank you for watching.
I made my skirt in William Morris cotton from Happy Hare fabric shop in Sheffield.
Pattern for skirt was from Burda magazine 7/2021 model number 118

Beautiful skirt the fabric is a lovely colour and pattern, I couldnt imagine what it would look like sewn up when you showed the fabric in your last video but it is lovely and the lining make a difference . Thanks for sharing Dianne. Enjoy you week Susan 🌼🌺🌸

I also meant to say that this is really useful even for simple skirts as a lot of the fabrics are not opaque.

Hi there, just regular lining fabric quite inexpensive.

Really useful Diane. Thank you. I need to line a lightweight dress soon - would you make a whole dress lining or do the skirt and bodice separately?

Hi Jan, that would depend on the dress as some dresses the bodice is a separate piece to the skirt , but others the pieces fall from the shoulder seams. ☺

@@Dianne-ut5vr oh I see. Thanks Diane. It’s the seasons of east Summer in NY dress. It it has a bodice which is sewn into the skirt part but I don’t add the zip though as I find I don’t need it. It’s quite a loose fitting.

@@jankerslake5813 yes line the bodice,sew in at facings and line the skirt and sew in where the skirt meets the bodice. Leave the side seams and hem loose. ☺

I have a question - is it possible to retro -fit lining to a RTW skirt? I'm trying to get my head around how to do it but I wondered if you had any ideas?

Yes of course, trace around the skirt with it flat on a table allowing for seam allowances, unpick the waistband on the original, make up the lining then you can tuck it under the waistband and restitch. I Hope that helps. ☺
