The amount of Photoshop post processing tools available to Landscape Photographers can be overwhelming, but once you begin to use these techniques you begin to wonder how you ever made it without them. This is the premise around “How to ADD CONTRAST with LUMINOSITY MASKS | Landscape Photography”. I was initially hesitant about attempting to use Luminosity Masks, but once I began to play around with them I was blown away with the post processing control they provide. Adding contrast with luminosity masks is how I was first introduced to the concept. This enabled me to apply targeted local contrast only to the areas that I wanted it applied. Once I learned this technique, I never applied contrast any other way. Understanding Luminosity Masks has been the single most impactful post processing skill I've ever learned! Hope you find the video helpful!
Below are links to download the free versions of the three major luminosity plugins I mentioned in the video.
Greg Benz Lumenzia Free Download: gregbenzphotography.com/lumin...
Tony Kuyper TK Basic Free Download: goodlight.us/specialoffers.html
Jimmy McIntyre Easy Panel Free Download: www.shutterevolve.com/photosho...
If you enjoyed this video please give it the ole thumbs up and let me know what you think in the comments below - I guarantee I'll get back to ya.
Cheers!

Great explanation Mark. I've got the Easy Panel, could create the masks, but didn't' know how to apply or adjust. Will have an experiment later. Thank you.

Great little vid Mark. Been using Lumenzia for a while now. Usually use the luminosity masks for selective dodge and burn but really like your work flow for contrast application. Definitely gonna give it a go :-)

Great video on lumenzia! I’m starting to use lumenzia and it can be very confusing. I’m trying not to give up on it though. Now that you use Luminar, do you still use lumenzia for contrast or do you find smart contrast in Luminar just as effective?

Hi mark, do you think it’s worth plugging one of these mask progs in still in view of photoshop improvements since you made this video? I was fascinated with the use of masks with your recent excellent snow photography tips video? It’s all new to me.

hello Mark. love the video! i have photoshop and just downloaded/installed Lumenzia. just getting my feet wet. (still a little confusing). my question is: do i need to pay for Lumenzia for it all to work properly or being that i am a Photoshop customer, is it free and ready to go?

Hey Mark, Great video... If I import a photo into Photoshop from Lightroom, does that essentially turn the file into a JPEG? Does the file lose some dynamic range during that process? Thanks

I am curious what you mean by „cartoonish look“ - I have the feeling that a lot of my photos may look cartoonish by using only lightroom. Mostly when you bring up the shadows all the way up and the highlights all the way down. By using the white point, the black point plus adding contrast with curves, it seems to prevent the photos from looking cartoonish. I only edit in Lightroom, but all the pros work with Photoshop, so there is a difference between professional editing and amateur’s work. That question is bothering me. Is it possible to professional edit photos by just using the „easy“ Lightroom?

I've been reluctant to use Photoshop luminosity masks for edits like this, because it just seems so time consuming! Am I missing something, or wouldn't it be as effective (and faster) to use a Lightroom local adjustment brush at a low flow, and just paint contrast in the areas you want? I guess luminosity masks take the guess work out of the equation, and decide the light and dark areas for you...

In the video, I use the full version of Lumenzia which is $39.99, but I put a link in the description to download the free version of Lumenzia. It doesn't have all the features of the full version, but it's plenty powerful to get started.
