Working on your locos can be daunting and I have made use of my Hornby entry level GWR Holden 101 Class to get some practice changing the livery.
Using the Items listen below we have added some great features and removed alot of the molded in details.
Sprung Buffers 15" Hd GW Parrallel (Markits)
Loco Crew Right hand drive (Monty's Models)
Smokebox door handles GWR 5.0mm long (Comet Models)
Handrail Knobs Short (Markits)
Coupling Hooks 2953 (MJT Scale Components)
Hand Brake UC040 (Wizard Models)
Vacuum Pipes UC001 (Wizard Models)
Lamp Irons (Silver Tay Models)
Mini Couplings 36-026 (Bachmann)
Nickel Silver Wire 0.45mm (Ebay)
GWR Transfers Sheet 7 (HMRS Transfers)

FWR "Fathers Wonderful Railway". Tell your dad that Layout is amazing. Your ability to take something so simplistic and turn it into something that looks like it came out of the Hornby "Super Detail" range, is outstanding! Can't wait for the next episode! Keep up the good work!

Great stuff. Interestingly, if you look at photos of the prototype, the brake handle looks a lot more like the one you fitted. One other addition you could make is to use Glue 'n' Glaze to glaze the cab windows.

Glue n gkaze is a good idea. The only problem I've found is they set very soft and slightly tacky so the smallest bits stick to it.

What a wonderful job. I just got this locomotive, well same type in the most recent Christmas set. I really like the way it runs etc. I'm going to leave that as a Santa express steamer but I will purchase the set again(only way I can get 1 cheap here in the states at $60 for the entire set) and repaint the steamer. Expert job, which will help many people overcome the terrors of taking a scalpel to a loco body. Great end result, but as a GW enthusiast I couldn't help noticing that you've got the lamp irons on the wrong way round. When looked at from the front they should look like a reversed capital L, with the bottom of the L on the left. When someone looks at what I've built and says 'I hope you don't mind me pointing out... ' I get really annoyed, so feel free to have a rant. Great job.

Painting 101 in GWR Post-1928 is a bit ironic as the actual locomotive didn't make it to 1928, or past WWI. As the engine was considered "non-standard", No. 101 was scrapped in 1911 after around ten years of service.

The footage of the running train looks a little odd. What framerate did your camera record at? I know that the video is 24 fps but it shouldn't look like this.
@OONeal
@OONeal 2 жыл бұрын
It is filmed at 24 frames but KZfaq do something to the videos so on some videos it has a strange movement. When I check my original footage and final video it is always smooth.

Its a pity you couldn't get different coupling rods. Apart from you made a simple toy look like a model!

Thank you, I would like to have another go at that oneday. I don't really know what options I have at the moment but I will scout around in the future 😊

Not boasting but I've been able to convert two GWR liveried 101s into a O-16.5 gauge (7mm scale) Double Fairlie..

A have the same loco I got it in the valley drifter set and the motor isn't working properly it often stops at low speeds but that be from the rubbish hornby controller that came with it
@OONeal
@OONeal 2 жыл бұрын
I see, Make sure its clean and try using a 9V pp3 battery on the track to see if its the controller or the loco. If it works with the pp3 then it might be your controller.

Good project... But GWR locos are all right-hand drive ,driver on the right, fireman on the left. They were the odd ones out post 1922.

I see, That's interesting I never thought about left or Right hand drive. Thank you for commenting, I'm always learning new things in the comments section

Footplate crew Uniforms Dark navy blue for new uniforms but after washing a few times the colour faded to a very light blue, The grease top hats are black with the top gloss black these where worn different styles as per the engine shed. Drivers had white shirts and black ties Never a RED tie but neck chiefs could be worn that colour . firemen did not wear ties unless a very important train.. Drivers had Black shine shoes but not the fireman as they where lower class and dirtier job . Footplate crew wear in Winter a Black jacket the fireman did not get his jacket until he had done a number of firing turns. All uniforms had black buttons sort of a plastic.

How much was the total you paid for all the detailing?
@OONeal
@OONeal 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure exactly as some of the packets have 10 pcs in which I would use on my other projects. The most expensive parts are the buffers which there are much cheaper options out there.

@@OONeal Ah got it, thankyou~ Yeah and I'd expect that sprung buffers would be quite expensive :d It's really cool what you did with such a simple loco and made it like something one might find in a railways model :D

@@aardappeleten7701 Thank you, if you have a watch on the video I put the prices on so you could have a little add up and then work out what you would be spending. alot of the parts are very handy for other projects too so you will have a nice box of bits to use when ever you like.
