Covering such a subject will hit home with many of you. With collections of unfinished items building in our draws shelves and cupboards it can become an issue for some.
This video tackles looking at finishing some of the easier items which need doing.
Come join me and maybe get the motivation to fix broken items and finish your kits.

All the paints used have been listed in the video but I will add some links below
www.dartcastings.co.uk ( for your white metal buffers, people, accesories etc )
www.wizardmodels.ltd ( they list different but similar items for you to fix up your locos or wagons aswell as alsorts of other things for your model railway )
The Dapol wheels I cannot find on their website but speak to your local model shop and ask for the dapol spoked wheels as they are very good value for money
www.dapol.co.uk/wheelsdisc-oo...
If not I have the Bachmann disc wheels on some of my models so again speak with your local model shop and hopefully you can find them.
The NEM coupling mounts I get asked about alot. I use these Peco ones, again your local model shop can order them in for you.
peco-uk.com/products/mounting...
I use a mixure of straight and cranked Bachmann Tension couplings, they are around the £10 mark for a pack of 10 which feels like alot but you hopefully dont have to buy them so often.

That's a really good motivational film some great ideas here for my old 1970s and 1980s rolling stock. My son is currently tidying up the railway shed so that we can actually get in it and run some engines.

@@OONeal Same here. Tried repairing n improving some RTR locos yesterday. Half improved 1 but other 3 still run like a 3 legged donkey. Can't win sometimes! Got years worth of half stuff to get done though. Important to get done as it cleans up the subconscious and improve MoJo in ways. I struggle here.

I think all modelers have a stash of unstarted kits, broken engines and wagons. I am sure that there are many who have collections in different scales. I recently chatted with a widow who spoke of her husband having been a "rubber gauger." She said he bounced from one gauge to another never completing a thing. After he had passed she was selling off his collection. She said he had things stashed all over the house.

As from the beginning, great work, Tris! There's always another little project or bit to do, of course. I had about 13 model buildings I had accrued over 2-3 years and had let sit, and then in one mad weekend, got them all built last summer. Piles build up until they hit critical mass, then you deal with them. You just tend to deal with them very brilliantly.

Hi Tris had you not thought of using the Hornby R8099 coupling bar? There a direct replacement for the old style and in line with the slimline NEM type. Saves loads of hassle in chopping the mounting base off!

@@OONeal thanks Tris, I’ve actually got a more fun job at the moment of laying track in the loft. There’s a DC lower tier for my lad, a shuttle line that’s in and been manually run on DCC, but this weekend wiring it in to DC Blocksignalling shuttle, the mainlines are barely 20% in place, one is full DCC, the other is switchable between DC and DCC. Box of shame will have to wait a little longer

I refer to my pile of shame as The Hoard. It's mostly unbuilt kits (but also a few locos) purchased before I took a long break from model railroading. Since I've returned to the hobby I've been chipping away at it. Currently I'm painting an undecorated GE 44 tonner and converting it to DCC. I feel slightly less shame now. Cheers from Wisconsin!

Welcome to the wonderful world of railway modelling 👍😊 Good on you to finish old projects. You've got all the skills to make some great models - nice work! 👍👍😊 You might want to investigate the use of a solvent weld for some of those chassis parts. Most look to be ABS, if they are, and solvent weld is used, you'll have a 'welded' (melded) bond between Eg Plastikard™ and the substrate (chassis) ABS/styrene. Cyano etc can go brittle over time but has it's place for use with dissimilar materials Eg brass to ABS etc. I hope that helps👍😊 More kits and models for modification and repair than you can cope with? Won't get around to them unless one can live as old as Methuselah?? Par for the course - in rarer scales and gauges it's often a case of "if I don't buy this kit now it'll be out of production". Then it goes into the kits draw or box, sometimes, just sometimes, before it gets built then a manufacturer brings out a RTR version!🙄😄😄 But in terms of VFM and pure hobby time kits - especially wagons - can be very therapeutic and great value in terms of cost per hour of hobby time. Keep up the good work👍😊😊

Great work! Very inspiring contribution! A thing that keeps me pondering: the real fruit van has a gloss paintjob. I've seen lots and lots of old pictures of railway vans and waggons in a gloss finish. But still we as modelers (me included) seem to be hesitant to copy that. Strange isn't it?
