BIG NEWS! Skylum has just launched a summer sale where you can save a massive 81% off Luminar Neo here bit.ly/NeoSale But the cool thing is in addition to that they've given me a coupon code to share with you so you get to save ANOTHER 20% (use code AFF-T5C1C0 ) I really hope that helps you out! It should work for both the perpetual licence and the subscription too. Enjoy😄 Best wishes, Anthony

This video by far is the most helpful of all your videos to me. Layers are something I had avoided. Now I know how to do all sorts of things, from resizing to masking. I just came back to watch it again this morning. That AI selection saved me massive amounts of time, and worked better than I could have done it.

Another excellent vid Anthony....and yes, I for one was wondering if you were OK as we haven't seen you for a while. I have to say, each time I see one of your videos I always learn something. Love how you structure these....too many others are based on having to watch someone pull some sliders and edit there own stuff. Your approach is much more educational and easy to follow. Looking forward to more now you are back!! Take care

Superb video Anthony, very well worked out. Hope the blending facility soon comes. What do you think your shadow would look like?
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 5 ай бұрын
Thanks Lottie. Thankfully I didn't have to worry about my shadow as the sun was almost straight overhead and my blob of a shadow would have been hidden behind the tree trunk. It would have been a slightly abnormal ellipse under my feet though.

Anthony glad to have you back love your videos I find them very helpful. I used your method to create one of my own people liked it, but I had people commenting on the same thing, everyone could tell I added a separate. Hopefully, you can help with my problem. No shadow, when I watched this video again I noticed you do not have a shadow either. Could you do a video on adding shadows when adding one image to another? I think that would be great, just a thought. One other thing is it true that Vampires don't cast a shadow, is that why you do not have a shadow in the photo? (a joke). Once again thank you for the great video.
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, thankfully for me in this one my shadow falls behind the tree stump as the sun was very close to overhead, just ever so slightly behind (which is how I position portraits when it's midday sun to avoid squint and hot spots on the face. Okay I'll bare in mind adding a shadow for a future video :) Thanks for the suggestion.

Welcome back, mate. Brilliant tutorial again. When you mention your scaling to match your family. I think the easiest and most accurate way would do the scaling using the tree stump, not you.and do a very minor change to adjust the distance. Havagooday Greg
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 4 ай бұрын
Hi Greg. Good to be back. Yes, spot on. The tree stump is exactly the element we should use for the scaling reference. I thought I'd done that, but perhaps that was in my practice run through before I hit record... cheers for the useful tip 😀

Anthony, good to see you again. I've been doing this technique for a while but as usual you bring even more cool tricks to the table. More learning once again. 😄 Hey, on cloning, is it ever possible not to have the source point following the mouse? Sometimes I want a specific color throughout. Thanks, Matt
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 5 ай бұрын
Hi Matt, at the moment the clone will always track the mouse sample point. Stealing texture only and no colour info would be a great addition to the tool!

Love the video but I also believe that it works because it's easy to mask out the background because it's such a contrast from the foreground but I suspect that if it were a busier background it would be more difficult.
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 5 ай бұрын
True. But the background removal tool has gotten much more accurate. But yes if you have a particularly complex and busy background you may need to do a little more manual work on the mask. Similar to how I showed around the gap between my daughter's arm and body.

Sooo many good tips. I'll have to watch many times to take it all in. But why not do the composite first so you didn't have to do the additional step of copy/ pasting the develop settings to the second layer?
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 2 ай бұрын
I always want to use develop raw first. If I did a flattened composite the data is no longer raw, so it has less versatility for correcting and editing.

Great Video Anthony, but I have a question, why duplicate the image of you in layers, am I missing something, but why not do the edit to the single image?
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 4 ай бұрын
Hi Ron. The duplication is so we have 3 layers . One for the background, one to add me onto that background, and one o add my family and the tree stump back over the top. This way we can leverage the AI masks to quickly layer up the composite. Regarding editing the image of family and image of me separately and then combining: two reasons, 1) to make sure the colour balance, exposure and contrast match. Although taken in the same spot, by the time my daughter took the image of me it had become slightly overcast causing less contrast in the shadows and a bluer colour shift. 2) by editing the raw files separately we get to benefit from using raw editing at the start. If we only edit the composited shot we lose that ability as the raw data is no longer available, because the composite is no longer raw. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for this! For some reason, Luminar Neo shows no camera profiles on my Fuji raw files. Only options are Luminar Default, and "Add custom DCP." Have you heard about problems with Fuji raw files in Neo? I can edit the files just fine. There's just no selection for camera profiles.
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 5 ай бұрын
I believe fuji decided to use .cube profiles rather than .dcp You can still get the profiles from the fuji website but they'd only work through the LUTs section rather than directly in the camera profile section.

How do u delete photos in the catalog without eliminating them from your original file folder. It always takes my images to the trash can and leave my original file folder empty. I dont need this program keeping all my work when i am not needing to go back and edit those images after i export them. Any hep would be great thank you in advance!
@AnthonyTurnham

Couple of options, move the photos on your OS to a new location or folder, or rename the folder that you no longer want Neo to access and it'll no longer have a valid path to it. E.g. "Landscapes for editing" Once editing is completed change the name to "Landscapes". Or create a "completed" folder that you drag your finished files to. Then manually remove them from there using the operating system.

if you have the ear of the CEO - please can you ask for this feature! I often create a mask in one tool and apply an edit to a portion of the image. I then go to another tool and would like to apply the new effect to the same portion of the image, but now I have to recreate the mask again (which can be time-consuming). It would be great if we could temporarily store masks for use between tools. Do you think this would be useful? Am I missing something that we can do already? Thanks. Jim [nice to have you back!]
@AnthonyTurnham

Thankfully we don't need to trouble the CEO (That was a one off session for him to pick my brains on workflow rather than the norm). There is already a function to copy masks! In the mask actions section at the bottom of the mask panel you'll see one of six buttons that says "copy" and another one that says "paste"! Bingo! And it's good to be back! 😀
