incase your coming back to this video like me, here is a breakdown of all the segments: 1. 2:40 - Turn text into smart object. 2. 3:20 - Skew Layer - CTRL + T - click on corner to skew - click and drag until it fits perspective 3. 5:00 - make text layer invisible 4. 5:15 -> Layer -> new adjustment layer -> levels 1 5. 5:20 - bring white and black levels up to enhance texture 6. 5:50 - File -> save as -> name this your "displacement" .psd 7. 6:10 - Make "levels" layer invisible. 8. 6:15 - click on text layer -> Filter -> Displace -> enter 2 for horizontal/vertical scale (play around with these) and click OK -> select prior "displacement.psd" that you created and click open -> WALLAH 9. 7:55 - Add blur to text -> click on text -> Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur -> 0,2-0,8 usually does the job (again play around with this). 10. 8:30 -> Add highlights and shadows -> Add new layer -> brush tool -> Sample colour for highlight/shadow (click ALT to sample colour) -> Large brush paint over text -> right click new layer -> create clipping mask (will hide the brush effect only under text to create shadow/highlight effect) 11. 10:20 -> how to add texture of subject back ontop of the text (SUPER COOL :D ) -> Duplicate background (click & drag to new layer icon) -> drag copy of background to the top 12. 10:40 -> Desaturate new copy of background layer -> click on copy -> Image -> adjustments -> Desaturate -> right click on copy of background and click "create new clipping mask" -> right click again -> change blend mode -> Soft light 13. 11:25 -> If it's too dark or too light -> select copy of background -> CTRL+L to open levels -> Adjust to your liking. 14. 12:08 -> add DEPTH to text, make it POP out a little -> right click text layer -> blending options -> select "Bevel & Emboss" -> bring "depth" & "size" down -> play around with "angle" to depict where the light is coming from -> you can change highlight colour by selecting "highlight mode" -> play with opacity of highlight & shadow to your liking. If I missed anything lemme know and Ill add

I love displacement maps, but saving as a separate file feels so archaic! Adobe should make something like "use layer as displacement map", the workflow would be much better.

If basic text sliders take them 20 years, don’t expect it soon :) photoshop is old, they reskin and add new features, but in truth it’s still the same engine by knoll.

I really appreciate being able to download the picture. Only drawback is name of the book on the top of the spine. I got rid of it with the patch tool. I notice in CS2 that I'm not able to manipulate 1 corner at a time in Smart mode. I suppose I could stiil do the project with less editability or flexibility by not converting it to a smart object. Oh, those of us with no money need to make the most of what we got.

Aaron I stay away from using Smart Objects because in some instances it tells me it can't do that with a smart object... let's say I want to transform something but it tells me Smart Objects can't do that or whatever. Is that a thing of the past or what, you'd assume everything would have become a smart object by now if it was superior right?

Or _Clip Studio Paint_ which used to be known as _Manga Studio_ . One of the good things about it is that it has 3D characters you can pose how you like and then draw over the top of. Some would say it is kind of like tracing but it is useful to get your anatomy correct, etc.
