Thank you Stephanie for doing what you do. I first bought a tin whistle 4 and a half years ago in 2014. I tried teaching myself but knew nothing about music to make any progress. The KZfaq scene wasn't as rich as it is today for Tin whistle back then. I'd given up. Thanks to you and your channel, I've picked up the whistle again after almost five years. Thanks. I will try this on my Aodyo Sylphyo, which doesn't have a reed to control vibrato 😢. It may be comfortable for flautists, but is SO unnatural for single reed players. I have heard of this before, but never saw it broken down so completely and clearly. Thank you!

Stephanie, This video is classic Stephanie... You are such a wonderful pleasure to watch and listen to... I love it when you are explaining things. It's as if you have been around a lot longer than thirty years. Perhaps you were here before as someone very important. It's so late here or so early... It just depends on whether you are going to bed or waking up. I haven't gone to sleep yet so I guess it's really late. Four thirty or something like that. Stephanie, Well since you have mentioned sunrises.... I do experience some beautiful sunrises here on the gulf coast. But not always silent as you mentioned in your reply. When I'm on the water at sunrise it's not always silent and without people moving about in boats. The best sunrises are the ones where I've been up all night fishing. If I haven't caught anything yet surely the sunrise will bring better luck and it has many times before. I would love hearing why you love ravens so much. Ravens and crows are somewhat different and I have experience with crows only. There are some interesting and entertaining pet crow videos on KZfaq. I've never had one as a pet but I wouldn't rule out the possibility if I find a young one homeless somewhere. My experiences with crows have always been a bit negative. Being that I live here in the swamp amongst lots of trees, the crows are always around doing naughty things. Things like attacking baby doves and blue jays in their nest in the spring. I've had baby doves and blue jays almost falling on my head when crows were trying to eat them or just killing them for fun. Another thing crows love to do is to find a female turtle laying her eggs and then eating them out from under her while she is laying them. When I see them attacking baby birds in their nest or trying to eat turtle eggs I'll run them off with one of my slingshots, or my gun if that's all I have at the time. I must say this also... I don't like naughty snake activity either. A pair of cardinals had a nest close to my house a few years back. I was standing close to it while doing archery and a black snake almost fell on me. I started looking around and a black rat snake had one of the baby cardinals in it's mouth! And just above the nest was a king snake wanting his turn at the baby birds. I freed the baby bird from the snake and I must be honest... Some snakes died that day, not all by my arrows, but by the tip of my hickory long bow. I relocated the king snake with hopes that it would eat a poisonous snake in the new location. So snakes and crows do not always rule around here and as I've mentioned in another comment... neither do poachers. I'm sure other predators do rule, but I've never had to address a raccoon, possum, or fox about doing what they do and I'm so glad. I've never seen them being predatory. I'm sure it's because they are much more discreet. I must remind you again that raccoons do rule my life in many ways. And they are always such a joy to be ruled by. I've been feeding them cookies and dog food for at least two decades. And I call most of them by their names and they respond to their names, all but the unfamiliar migrants. Friends and family are amazed at how I can tell so many of them apart even in the darkness. For anyone wondering why I'm talking about these things here and now... Well it's because Stephanie likes to know about people, places and things. It's just one of the things about Stephanie that makes her so lovable! So start talking to her... I'm sure she will love it. Stephanie, I forgot to tell you happy ground hog day! It was the second day of February. The ground hog came out and did not see his shadow so according to legend that means we will have an early spring. And he has been wright so far this week even though the weather channel officially says he (Punxsutawney Phil that is)... has no accurate weather forecasting ability. He has only been correct about fourty percent of the time since the beginning of his career 120 years ago. Not the same ground hog of course... he had ancestors in the profession as well. I believe about 13 other inaccurate family members. I know... They were most likely not related to him but it sounded funny haha. Things are blooming and it's been in the upper sixties and lower seventies. It's suppose to be warm for the extended forecast. I hope you have a miraculous early spring there also. Please let me know if you get notifications of my replies. I'm not sure if you do.... That's why I have posted this as a regular comment instead of a reply. Thank you! And there is one thing I'm certainly sure of and that is... If you can love a raven then you can certainly love me!

Aho Stephanie, Good tutorial. I don't use vibrato much on my N.A.F.. It's not that I don't like it. I guess I can take it or leave it. There are however a few songs that I can't help but tear up a little while playing them and when this happens those songs come out with a natural vibrato that gives them a raw emotional feeling that ends up sounding really well .Three songs top that list starting with a song the Cherokee People sang and played on the trail of tears while being forced from their homeland to "Indian Teratory" known today as Oklahoma. That song is titled, Guide Me O Jehova. Second is Taps, and the third is Amazing Grace. On another subject, Occasionally good things happen to people who deserve it, so congratulations on breaking over 20,000 subscribers. Hello there. My understanding of the WHY of vibrato is mostly from researching what I call THE PURE NOTE, or TONE. Most people can NOT hold a PURE tone. So many moons ago, the thought of varying the notes while singing would COVER-UP the singer's non-ability to carry a true pitch while singing... AND IT WORKS GREAT! An example of a singer who was known as someone who could sing in a 'PURE' note state is the late-great Mr. Hank Williams. Now THAT man could carry a truly PURE note! Now, most of us really believe that to be a good singer, you must be able to 'warble' the note with vibrato; the more the better. Well, this is only sort of true when THAT is what a singer is striving for. But for the BEST singing, to hear a song sung without vibrato, but that song sung with PERFECT pitch - - - THAT, my friends, is true heaven for folk like me. I personally enjoy someone singing with a moderate amount of said, but it really bugs me when it seems the singer is just OUT OF CONTROL, where you sort of loose the tune with far too much up-and-down with the notes. Then again, I may not really know what I am talking about here. After all, I was a singing coach for just a little over 38 years before retiring - hee hee :-)

Stephanie, This is a great video! I had no idea that you would be explaining how to make vibrato in such detail. As I've said before... your singing experience and vibrato ability really shows in your whistle playing! Because of the fact that you do not always get notifications of my replies I'm going to response to your last reply here... I love your reply! Why can't I send you a ❤ heart when you reply to my comments. Now, about you trying to ignore naughty behavior of a snake eating a young bird or some eggs out of a nest that mom and dad bird worked so hard to make so they could raise a family... I know what you meant by seeing the good in natures critters rather than the bad things they do to survive. But I'm certain that if you were there when those snakes were attacking those beautiful cardinals babies you would have been saying "Do something!" Or, you would have been grabbing my bow and beating some snake ass! I need you to tell me something... Are you a snake handler? I have a feeling that you are not! I'm not, but I have handled snakes just so I would know what it's like but not because I like it. As you probably know KZfaq is full of many death wish snake handlers. I value my life far too much to be handling deadly snakes.

It seems to me something is missing in this explanation. You say we have to produce a steady flow at a constant speed in the first place.. ok. Then you jump directly to cheats.. but what about the actual vibrato, the central objective of the whole tutorial?

And that reminds me... Happy Valentine's Day my love! I know it's not yet Valentine's Day but I'm hoping I'll get lucky and be the first to tell you. It's not always the best to be the first but your replies always put me in a Valentine's Day mood! And so does this beautiful spring weather we are having here. More about that later I'm sure. Now a reply to your last reply.... Now days snakes are widely accepted as pets and it is considered cool to be a snake lover. Congratulations my love, you are a cool snake lover. I don't love snakes because they don't listen well or probably not at all and the only time they wag their tails is when they are pissed off. There are no vegetarian snakes, so you can't teach them to eat alternative foods such as I've done with some of my most intelligent and gentle raccoons. I know this might just be a fairytale fantasy of mine but I believe that some of my raccoons actually have sympathy for other baby animals and eat only lesser life forms such as crustateans, mussels, minows and insects along with plant fruits like nuts and berries. All snakes must kill to eat and it's usually a little animal that I love, like a baby bird, flying squirrel, gray squirrel or white footed mouse. I see nothing positive about having a snake roaming my house or having a poisonous moccasin lurking at my door step. But I do have spiders roaming my house that are beneficial. So that means I don't kill every spider that I see. Just because it's a spider doesn't mean there is a poisonous black widow or brown recluse around somewhere. With any luck my good spiders will eat the bad ones when and if they come inside. After hurricane Katrina there were brown widows and black widows everywhere, but all were on the outside of my house. The whole town was infested with them. I think they came from Florida on those travel trailers brought in by the government for homeless families. I must ask... How do you feel about spiders especially the ones that get in your house? Do you just do as I do and leave some of them to do their thing? If you do not allow any spiders at all to live in your house at anytime I will understand... My dearest friend and closest neighbor would not let an insect even look at his house at anytime... He did get bitten by a brown recluse and almost died but it wasn't in his house, he was camping.... He has since passed away from a natural cause... if heart attacks are natural... May he rest in peace. Again.... Happy Valentine's Day my love and your last video is fantastic. It looked very difficult to play but you did a fantastic job! Thank you!
