How to adjust a uPVC door to stop draughts

This video shows you how to adjust a uPVC door to stop draughts. It’s a simple job that takes a few minutes with a screwdriver.

All uPVC doors are made with a frame so that the two have a perfect fit together.
Over time and excessive use, the door can become misaligned with the frame as screws loosen the door shifts.
The most common reason that your door is not fitting tightly into the frame is that the door lock is not sitting snuggly in the door latch.
By adjusting the door latch on the uPVC frame, this will stop draughts by allowing a snug fit of door and frame.

I've had a draught for around two years and finally got my finger out and did this. Took two minutes on two doors and I am now wondering how much money on heating I've wasted. Oh, well, I know now! Thank you :)

Thank you so much for uploading this video. One of my doors wouldn't shut today, one of the rollers wouldn't move past the latch. Seeing the bit of the video about adjusting the cam of the roller helped me fix it - adjusted it by 1/4 turn and all was good again 🙂

Thank you so much for directing me to the problem area on our French doors. My newly acquired laser thermometer showed the UPVC frame was chilling down to below 5° whereas elsewhere the temperature was nearer 15°. The bottom latch was the worst with a stick just over 2mm! I adjusted all three and hey presto - the visible gap was closed down. Thank you so much. It was -6° outside this morning and our dining room now feels noticeably warmer after the fix. Excellent!

Great help! Have tightened up my exterior doors and my windows using this method. Wishing I'd known this a few months ago during winter. Front door hallway is a lot more comfortable since. Thank you.

Thanks. My cam adjustments were on the frame of the door (the receiving end), not on the door itself but I still used the same technique and it fixed my problem.

Great help. Our back door doesn't close at the bottom so leaks whenever it rains. I shall have to make the adjustment you showed.

Like several of the people posting below, I'm wondering what to do if the door seems to fit, but cold air gets in through the hinges. (I do mean the actual hinges themselves, not the whole hinge edge of the door).

What do you do if its not the top but the bottom of the door that needs to stop rattling or coming away ?

I got pvc windows fitted recently however I can hear car/lorries etc passing by I know the windows are sealed right around as I done this myself but I am sure the openings need tighten up to stop the noise is it easliy done can you show me please seems to be 2 spuds under each window that opens thank you

The top corner of my door is still drafty even after the adjustment, it’s minutely better but during this cost of living crisis we literally can’t afford to put on the heating and with draughts we’ll be burning even more money if we do, and we can’t afford a new door, and legally can’t change it because our building has to decide whether it updates the windows or not, it’s just dumb
