IMO, feet play a very small part...just look a Lee Trevino and his setup/swing. His feet are constantly moving!
@jerome_morrow
@jerome_morrow 4 жыл бұрын
@Adam Rasmussen: Trevino is everyone’s favourite grandad who smoked like a chimney and drank like fish all his life, yet passed away peacefully in his late 90s - the exception that proves the rule! He also had a shut to open faced swing, testament to his incredible talent for being able to play at the highest level with unorthodox technique. However, even he lined up his shoulders correctly for his intended swing. A point which Nicklaus used to make regarding stance alignment. Whilst we take our stance from the feet up, it is the shoulders that matter the most. The feet do not always have to match.

Excellent visual presentation of how to aim correctly. Too many people aim with shoulder/body, then compensate bad aim with all kinds of weird swing technique. Proper alignment and aiming technique is the foundation of a good swing. The cgi was spot on, along with perfect camera angle. Really appreciate you putting up such quality video for us.

I was apparently born without the ability to properly 'aim' a golf club, and for many years couldn't tell if I was lined up properly or not. One day I was playing with a scratch golfer, and he gave me the EXACT advice Rick gives in this video. Worked like a charm ever since. I was so happy to find a 'work-around' for my golf 'disability'. And all these years, I thought it was my own little secret! Thanks again, Rick!

Right? I can hit a shot that goes absolutely dead straight, yet ends up left or right of the target that I thought I was aimed at. I don't think, for the most part, I'm hooking or slicing it - I think most times I am just crap at aiming! I will definitely be giving this a go

Terrific video, Rick. Your aiming technique was taught to me 30+ years ago and it was one of the best pieces of advice ever. To add another to this...if your tendency is to slice the ball (for a righty), stand on the right side of the tee box and aim down the left side. Pick a point that should you hit it straight, it will still be in play. This will allow your slice to not end so far off of the fairway to the right, if at all. Thanks for the great information. Cheers!

Jerome Morrow that works, too. What I said was a part of the aiming technique taught to me by a friend that was a scratch golfer. He was patient with me because I had a terrible slice when I first started. It actually does work to keep the ball closer to the fairway.

Being a Pro Teacher myself have taught this method throughout my teaching experience..........Having your feet PARALLEL to target line is a key factor.......Players want to put the club on their shoulders or knees and aim the club at the target which in fact would promote a line well right of the target for right hand golfers. Thanks for promoting this critical alignment strategy.

Rick great video...I used to this same exact alignment method. However I found that my eyes would play tricks on me, and more often than not, I would end up aiming too far to the right. What I did to correct this was aim my ball logo (on tee shots only) similarly to lining up the ball logo on the green when putting. This way, I have something to reference aim/direction that is right next to the club face.

When I was in high school this is what my golf coach told me to do, and I’ve been doing it every shot ever since. Now I still don’t hit the golf ball perfectly every time, but before this I was always terribly set up in my stance, I would lined up way off because I would just go up stand to the ball and kinda guess where I needed to aim. This is a tip I remember the most out of my entire time playing golf.

Great tip Rick. Same principal to the "aiming" technique as applied to playing 10 Pin Bowling. Some players aim or focus on a position in the pin cluster and that is 60 feet from the foul line while other bowlers aim at the guide markers which are only 15 feet away from the delivery line. Same as the ball flight off the club in that you really need to be fully aware of how your ball rolls, how you release the ball etcetera - do you have a hooking ball roll or a smooth curved roll or a straight roll for example. Similar to the ball off the golf club in essence.

I do this on every shot. It's especially easy on the tee box as there are usually many divots to line up behind. It may cost you a yard or two on the tee box but I'll take that loss for a potentially straighter ball. If this technique was/is good enough for Jack Nicklaus, it's good enough for us.
