oh, a small but talented channel! you know, actually if you'd be willing to make something like it, i would be curious to hear your analyses of games more in depth, like a longer video where you dissect games and their design and what about you like them, or somesuch. i liked your thoughts in this one but it was a little short :) interesting to see how your channel will grow! (also don't mind the complaints of ai voice over, i honestly wasn't able to tell and it didn't mess with my experience of valuable information. i get your recording anxiety, do what works for you)

Actually, tic-tac-toe is terribly balanced. The first turn of player X doesn't matter much, because Player X can always react to Player O. However, the first turn of Player O is game-defining: if you don't make a perfect move (which is always center, unless it's already taken - then you should take edge), Player X will always win by forking Player O in the next 2 turns if they play optimally. Even if you know all the perfect solutions, you can never win as Player O, as long as Player X pays attention to your placements. But if you know the perfect play as player X - you can always win if Player O makes unoptimal turn 1 move or at least end in a draw. This evens out if both players know perfect solutions (yes, the "high elo" players), making every game into a draw.

Hmm... yeah, you're right, but most players don't overanalyse the game so... :D I also became discouraged with this game at some point when I grew up and realised that the only way to lose is if you sleep through your turn. So let's just leave this one to the inattentive people.

The game tip at the end is used in writing novels, and scripts for movie industry. The purpose is ensuring balanced engagement, and storyline fluidity. Not only does it give breaks to a reader/(player), from over stimulating (risking bordem, or confusion, both a nightmare for marketing), or giving the reader/(player) no foundation, or signposts to continue the build-up, and still keep a coherent, but engaging storyline, in this case game. Having highlighted points of reference are crucial to design in most media. Gaming in particular is more so in approach of the aspiring developers. How a player interfaces with the storyline will determine gameplay, and should use gameloops as indicators, or reminders of your contents. For instance DK barrels in Donkey Kong is a cleverly done example, usually highlighted checkpoints, and rewarded another Character. Yes, Diddy Kong was born in a barrel 😂. Eastereggs would be another way to substantiate, and elaborate storyline. Resident Evil comes to mind on this, they were genius level, 👌. Need for Speed Underground was a racing game with storyline, albeit simplistic, was engaging enough. So yes can be done, but the f#ck is correct not a typical industry standard for racing games. Graphics also determine the difficulty in the game your making, though most engines offer an in-between 2D, and 3D, I'd advise researching, as this particular graphical style does require expected mechanics, and perspective play, not typically done in 3D, or 2D alone. So many things factor in. Some may not even want to make games but graphic novels, or custom galleries telling your art journey, ect.

Thank you for such a great and detailed comment, I got a little confused at the end but it's okay :) I'm interested in the part about Resident Evil, it would be great if you could give some examples of Easter eggs in that game and explain in more detail. I think people in the comments and I personally would be interested to know more about what “genius” you are talking about, since I, for example, am not familiar with the series and only watched a couple of walkthroughs on KZfaq. Thanks anyway :*

@@thefckgd Sure 👍, I commented using my phone. Though I could do that crap on my phone, would be frustrating to, 😆. I'll fire up my computer later this morning, and post over examples of what I'm referencing. I've played all through the Series from the original PS release, and Director's Cut, Resident Evil 2, 3, 4 is one of my absolute favorites, simply behind gameplay mechanics that made the fixed view far more engaging, and manageable. Resident Evil 5 was just a masterpiece, certainly drew heavy on early inspiration of the series, while shifting narrative for the 6th installment. Which sadly I haven't played through, or many of the remakes.

@@thefckgd On the last part about graphics I was trying to say the difference in difficulty between 3D, and 2D are significant. There's a new trend of mixing 2D and 3D, and has it's own expectations on gameplay mechanics, as Paper Mario did with dimensional shifting as a gameplay feature, but is a nightmare to design for, and gets very complex in the programming of such, being compensation is going back and c forth for resources in such games. Though a couple of decent ones have come out, it's the most difficult to design, and implement among design types on the graphical dimensions available to work in. VR is a massive undertaking for any development team, and would suggest if doing such solo, keep it feature oriented, or for a hobby, being for even low quality VR, it takes teams years to develop just app interfacing, and is still unsatisfactory to most using VR, making games in VR is even wilder, and more challenging, even the simple stuff like movement get pretty complicated in VR. Easy to make your players sick if you don't compensate if they're sitting or standing, or for their height, ect. Since much of VR is using the player themselves as input.

Do NOT think like a CEO when making games. Corporations are short sighted and profit driven; and will only ever strive to put out slop that makes money. Every game design decision will become an optimization problem on how to make the game more like a casino, and less like a work of art (like optimizing the fun out of a game). Yes managing resources properly is important, but the incentives of a CEO and a game designer often compete (like a game), and the game is balanced in the CEO's favor because of the capitalist market, no matter how good the developers are (as seen with Tango gameworks).

That's a good point, I think you're absolutely right about that, but still the industry requires us to have certain knowledge to, for example, rationalise our ideas and so on, so I think it's an important skill. And so in general, I support everything you said above, business often spoils games and people as well, that's just sad :C

I talk the same way in real life, so I don't think we would have become good friends :) It's okay if it prevents you from enjoying the video, but I'm starting to get scared of this dislike of everything AI-related, I think it's some deep fear that machines will take our jobs or something. I don't know what it will be like in the future, but right now, it's still my content, my thoughts, my ideas. And AI is just a way to bring it to the masses because I can't record my voice for a number of reasons. A way to make it easier for people in some ways. And our future is going to be filled with smart machines one way or another. I don't know. What do you think about that?
