Until recently, I thought the same thing because it was the "young" in Young Adult. I am 38 years old and that one word distracted me because I thought the books were more kids books. Some people think real books are "adult" books, like James Patterson. I am just now trying YA.
@netabolt6546
@netabolt6546 8 жыл бұрын
you can read YA no matter how old you are. YA is mostly books with the characters that has a young age like teenagers, thats not say that YA is bad, i read some of YA books and they are still enjoyable and i consider it a real book and i'm 25 years old and i dont mind reading YA. however i cant tell the difference with YA and NA books. i mostly read SciFy, Fantasy and Horror (mostly Stephen King).
@Aaaitsme

It is very closed minded to think YA isn't literature. But, I do also enjoy adult fiction and appreciate adult fiction recommends. The Girl on the Train was AMAZING! But, I also loved Stolen. Loving books is about loving a variety of genres! (or at least giving them a chance) :)
@mlkirkl09

Britt _ I liked The Girl on the Train. It was actually the first YA book I started on. Now I am on the second book Hollow City of Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children and have also read Twilight and New Moon.

I mean I'm at the age where young adult books are acceptable for me to read (I'm 15) but I immensely dread the day when people will keep bugging me to read "real books" and classics. Classics are amazing and fun and whatever but sometimes I just want some ToG okay??? Vajsxokenwndof

Hugh Reed there a so many YA books from different genres that some people prefer to read YA books. Some people prefer books for different age levels like some people prefer different authors or different genres. I’m 16 and I’m currently reading a YA novel that has almost 1,000 pages and has a better storyline than a lot of popular movies I’ve seen. Are you going to tell me that isn’t a real book? I do read a lot of YA books because some of them are really good and really long books even if I do occasionally read other books. Harry Potter is technically labeled as a children’s book. Are you going to say those aren’t real books? Sometimes YA or children’s books are just more entertaining and sometimes reading something lake Harry Potter is really refreshing. Do you not consider Order of the Phoenix real reading? Because that book is almost 900 pages and has a fairly well written storyline. I definitely prefer YA over other books and mostly read YA but that doesn’t mean I’m not a reader. It just means I have a preference like everyone else on this planet.

i agree on the anoyance of people that say that YA is not real books. YA is real books, its just the character that is younger and that doesnt mean that its bad. my favorite YA series are Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.

Neta Bolt I judge a book, not by it's genre, but how well it was written and crafted. Every genre is full of stereotypical books that make you cringe or that you can tolerate only once. It's the good ones that stay with you and can be enjoyed by all ages (depending on the minimum age limit). That's what makes a good book for me. If I can come back to it and still marvel at how well the author narrated the whole thing (plot, characters, narration, dialogue). Non-book-readers focus on the wrong thing. The question to ask is, will this book become a classic that can be enjoyed for decades to come? Many books don't pass that test. The trial of a reader is to read many books until they find those classics, and then watch them obsess over them and bugging the author for the next book.
@a.maskil9073
@a.maskil9073 6 жыл бұрын
Neta Bolt I know that it is the common definition, but I don't consider a book YA simply because most of it's characters are young adults.
@Weasleykins
@Weasleykins 5 жыл бұрын
Neta Bolt Sorry to do this but Percy Jackson & Harry Potter are not YA. Percy Jackson is middle grade, and Harry Potter is children/adult.
@caliecat8275
@caliecat8275 5 жыл бұрын
Tucking Fypo there are a few different things that make a book YA. The character is supposed to be a teenager or at least young. The story is usually some form of coming of age story and usually the problem that drives the plot forward is a problem that young adults can relate to such as family problems and the plot usually centers around things like friendship, first love, or the character trying to find their identity in the world.

once I let my friend borrow one of my favorite books AND SHE FREAKING BROKE THE SPINE, THE BACK COVER WAS OFF, THE PAGES WERE WATER DAMAGED, AND THE COLORING ON THE SOFT COVER WAS PICKED OFF!!!! So at first I gave her a little slack but barely any because it was a soft cover that I had for a while but I keep my books in mint condition AND THEN SHE FREAKING SAID IT WAS LIKE THAT UPDATE: ( I have never lent her another book again, and I still don't forgive her )

I'm not bothered so much by people having legitimate questions for me if I'm reading; I'll just set down the book for a moment. What annoys me is when people try to *start* a conversation (also usually people I don't know? who think this is a good way to begin a friendship?) about what I'm reading. WHATCHA READING. OH. WHAT'S IT ABOUT. OKAY. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY LFIE NOW AND TRY TO INTEREST YOU IN SOMETHING BECAUSE IT APPEARS YOU AREN'T DOING ANYTHING. I feel like that shows most succinctly how someone feels toward reading.

I rarely get interrupted while reading books but whenever I decide to listen to an audio drama everyone suddenly decides that their words needs to be heard and no one else is more suitible for listening to them than me... Like, I would literally be telling my family "I' m listening to an audio drama, please don't talk to me while I'm doing this chore" and they would just ignore it after a few minutes, not even to ask for help or inform me about something important but just to chitchat.

OK LIKE uneven books and people bending new paperbacks' spines *will* kill me. I related emotionally and when that spine bent I cringed so hard.

Once a friend whom I really likedcame to my house and I showed her a book she opened the book so wide and I said that the spine would break and pages would come out. She replied shut up you can stick it. What's in a book? ........now she doesn't even come near my building.

I feel having to put a book on its side when there is no shelf space left, but also when there is no shelf space left I get to take all my books off the shelves and decide which ones to keep. Then I get to reorganize them in a completely different way when I put them back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost only read y/a fantasy, and I’m always judged, mostly for the fantasy part, and all I do is look at then sadly and say, “you haven’t read a good book before, I feel bad for you”
