I just want to thank you so so much! I have wanted to be a l&d nurse for years and have tried without success right after school. Worked in step down for a little less than a year before taking off to have my babies and 3 years later I’ve been trying to get back into nursing applying to LDRs around me but it’s so competitive and Being basically a new grad felt impossible. Shockingly, I got an interview and watched your videos to prepare. The next day I FINALLY got a job offer in L&D. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I feel like my dreams are coming true. ❤️

I am so disappointed, just had an interview, if you could call it that with a NICU nurse manager and some other staff, and what a joke! I could tell right from the start they really weren't interested in me as a candidate! They asked.a couple of questions which I did the best I could to answer reign nervous... I saw them looking at each other and chuckling intermittently and trying to hide it (this was a zoom interview).. They weren't in the least bit prepared, it was like a big joke to them. What a waste of 15 minutes I will never get back again... The interview gave me a solid glimpse into their work culture and why they currently have TEN OPENINGS in their level IV NICU!!! Thank you for the video!

That is so true, have faith that it will get easier and that all nurses go through this. Also realize that part of being a nurse is constantly learning new things and how policy/procedures work at the facility you work for. Be of luck to you.
@mariekano9730
@mariekano9730 4 жыл бұрын
The first year in real life nursing is MISERABLE. Studies say a new nurse doesnt start to feel competent until about 6 months to a year. You are not considered a master until 5 years. The first year you're new to people, supplies, techniques, and the speed. You're literally thrown to wolves even with orientation because in most hospitals you are expected to get it down pack after orientation which is only a couple months. But ALWAYS ask questions, dont be afriad to switch another perceptor if you are not comfortable, dont over complain because the manager will see this as you're not cut out for this (I was almost fired for complaining too much on my first job). Get to work on time, get a notebook a small one and write down key things to remember like code numbers, or passwords or how to access a certain folder in an EMR. Keep it with you until you dont really need it anymore. That little notebook is your reference to how to do things in case you dont remember.

Thank you so much for these tips and how to prepare for these interview! It really helps calm the nerves a little bit 😅😅 I do have a question: I'm really passionate about women's health and aim to become an OB/L&D nurse, but seeing that I'm a new graduate nurse, I don't have that much experience in the nursing field other than the ones obtained from clinicals. Is it possible for me to purse this specialty even though I don't have that much experience? Several nurses have recommended to go into one of the general fields such as Med-Surg and ED, but I just can't see myself in those fields 😓.

If you want to be a psych nurse, how do you share stories if you have defeated your own issues? And you want to help others do so? Doesnt that paint you in bad light? Mental health is so stigmatized still. Do you lie and say it was a friend? Because I hate keeping track of lies.

I think you people in the USA have it easy when it comes to nursing job interviews. Here in Canada, in addition to these questions she went through, they will also have clinical based questions that are mostly case scenarios. I recently had a job interview and below are the case scenarios they emailed me 5 minutes to the interview because it was a zoom one. Fortunately, I got the job and my first day of work will be December6. 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 Cardio-Respiratory Medicine SCENARIO 1: You are preparing to hand over care of your patient at the end of your night shift to the receiving nurse. Patient information has been provided to you (see below). a) Given the patient information, what would provide to the receiving nurse during handover? b) What concerns or issues do you have? c) Would you recommend any follow-up tests/procedures? d) What do you think could be going on with the patient? Name: Joan Stith DOB: June 8th, 1951 - 65 year old female Code Full Code Braden 17 status Reason for admission: Dementia Past Med. Hx. Uncontrolled Atrial fibrillation Neuro Alert & oriented x3 Resp Patient short of breath post ambulation to washroom GU Continent Adm Date March 19th, 2017 Allergy NKA Cardio No concerns GI Bowel sounds present x4 Nutrition DAT * noted patient coughed with liquids at meals and when administering medications Vitals 2300 500 daily Temp 37.8, HR 96, 120/80, RR 16, SPO2 96% on RA Temp 38.3, HR 120, 120/80, RR 16, SPO2 96% on RA Mobility AAT, 1 assist to washroom Skin/Drsg intact Consults Plan SCENARIO 2: You are on night shift and at 0600 you approach one of your patients to do a set of vitals. You find that the patient’s HR is 170 and irregular (atrial fibrillation) What would you do? SCENARIO 3: You are preparing an elderly patient with mild cognitive impairment and mobility issues who is about to be discharged to their home and has requested further education. a) Who would you involve and why? When would you involve these individuals? b) If one of the clinicians indicates they are too busy to see the patient and the patient discharge will be delayed, what would you do? SCENARIO 4: A 45-year old patient was admitted with community acquired pneumonia. Your patient was awake alert and oriented on yesterday’s shift but today you find that the patient is confused to person, place and time. The patient is actively trying to remove his oxygen and saline lock. What would you do? SCENARIO 5: You are required to teach a patient who is being discharged and is waiting to receive education on how to check their blood sugars. a) What strategies would you use in your teaching to ensure the patient understands the information? b) What would you do if the patient was very nervous and/or resistant to the teaching? c) If a family member were present with the patient, how would you include them in the teaching? SCENARIO 6: Patient is 35 yo male admitted with COVID. He is 6 foot 3 inches and 220 lbs. a) You obtain his vital signs and note that:  HR 80; BP 108/74; RR 23; O2 saturation 88 on 2 litres N/P What interventions would you do if you had a physician order? b) You reassess the patient and find the vitals are:  HR 89; BP 104/70; RR 24; O2 saturation 89 on 6 litres N/P What interventions would you do if you had a physician order? c) You reassess again and find that the patient oxygen saturation is 84% on 50 % facemask. What would you do? d) I after applying a non rebreather the patient saturation is 87%, what would you do? SCENARIO 7: You are preparing to enter the room of an unresponsive 70-year old patient, Terry Brown.
