“this will be easy!” dude, no. lol. i’ve applied like 5 or more dbrand skins and other brands as well. this is so far and away the most difficult i’ve done. the deck is very, very curvy. advice: use a heat gun. focus on the curves/contours first, then worry about lining up the edges. the grips look like the easiest part-they aren’t. they’re the hardest. finally got it to look good in the end but it took ages, a lot of pressure & heat, and about a dozen rounds of cussing at the phrase “after you’ve lined up _____ flawlessly, 😊”

This is absolutely the one single time out of probably 1000+ tries that this demo got a semi decent cover correct for the Steam Deck. This was an absolute nightmare from start to finish, and I am so very close to just tearing it off and biting the bullet of wasting $50 on this skin. They used black on black for a reason - the white shows EVERY. SINGLE. FLAW. possible. I have creases, bumps, crooked lines, and air pockets ALL over my steam deck now and I am in so much inner turmoil about how bad it looks. It also doesn't help that the front skin "peel cover" was 100% disconnected from the rest of the skin, making 7:34 astonishingly impossible. I hated everything about this experience.

The Teardown skin for the Steam Deck looks so cool. My birthday is soon and I’m hoping I might get it, great video and clear guide!

Couldn’t find a gravity gun for the trackpads. I hope using my hands doesn’t cause “unforeseen consequences”.

Followed all instructions to a T and yet wrinkles everywhere on rounded corners. no amount of heat gun fixes that. wasted money. Highly disappointed. quite furious honestly. ripped it all off and threw it away.

Right out of the gate I got the skin stuck on the plastic sleeve! It couldn’t be removed even with a heat gun. Had to use lots of force to peel it off and ended up stretching it until it was fubar.. Successfully applied into the garbage. I’ve never failed so hard at anything in my entire life!

Just installed the Robot Camo skin. It came out AMAZING. I keep finding new little details in the art every time I look at it. The key to a flawless installation is to continuously apply enough heat before pressing down, and PATIENCE. Do not rush it.

Unfortunately, I was unable to apply my front skin, because the over screen portion of the skin didn't stay in place like shown in this video. Had to toss it.

This has been the most aggravating thing I've ever done and I have done it twice now. This is NOT easy everything is a pain to align especially since I'm not in a brightly lit studio with devices that hold my steam deck for me

There's a reason they use a black skin here. I worked on applying the white one this morning. And the little wrinkles it produces are so hard to manage that I finally gave up. Now I'm waiting until eXtremeRate releases their front shell replacements for Steam Deck.

Fair warning: the Steam Deck skin is very, very difficult to apply

Applying a black skin is all well and good but is kind of cheap since it makes the skins edges not really show in the video. Any imperfections are very hard to spot with everything black. I tried today with my ordered “Mellow yellow” skin and it was waaaay harder than this make it look. All the round edges and material heating makes it very hard to get a smooth, nice skin without creases. I struggled for good while but ended up throwing my skin in the trash. I have previously installed several smartphone- and laptop skins from you guys with very good results. Unfortunately the Steam Deck proved much, much harder. If you have high standards regarding the results then be warned this is “not” an easy install.

My micro fiber cloth turned the front grip pieces yellowish orange? Same with the curve on the back by the palm and bottom screw. Same thing turned it a auburn color?!?!? Wtf

The teardown skin appears to have a front center piece that would cover the screen. I'm assuming we remove that before application, or is it there to help line things up during install?

Mine came out near perfect applying the skin today, the only part that was really super hard was the palm section. I took my time using the hair dryer and applying pressure, still got creases. Ended up throwing that part away, but it gives it a nice look after with a mix of black and your selected color. If you can do the body and the back portion (Top is easy, but I recommend doing that part last so it looks aligned with back and front) with enough patience and good lighting. You’ll be in good shape 👍🏼

my deck looks cool but i will never ever be applying one of these again 💀 i don’t understand how you can push a skin over an edge without the creases. i had to throw both of the bottom parts out because it was so bad. there are tiny creases on the top corners but whatever lol. 10/10 packaging though 😂

First and last skin I purchase ever, extremely difficult to apply, always got wrinkles around the edges, trying to smooth those out, the skin got longer, and had to cut it with some scissors, manage to leave it applied and looks pretty "good", but after 2 hours

I just did the swarm skin on my steam deck. One of the more harder skins I've ever put on before, but still a lot easier than other people made it seem to be. Just take your time, pay attention to the video, and it'll come out perfect just like mine.

Nice video guide only problem i had when applying the front section the middle was allready discounected from the sourround made it very hard to apply top edge strerched but lucky i had the robot design and cut the vynal and re stuck so the join was good.I was a bit dissapoited with that but looks good now just a few wringles but i can live with them.

My order only came with the back and top part of the skin i ordered the deluxe kit how does that happen? I filed an issue with my order now I'm waiting for a reply

That front facing side didnt work out for me at all. There was a gap between the screen on the paper and it also shown on the deck. Had to cut it as there was just too much vinyl between the lines :( not happy with the outcome. I think I had a defected print

They prob use black skin cause the result was a reg deck without the skin lol. So forming fitting its like not there. 5/10. You will have issues, there will be wrinkles, and there will be mistakes. The deck isn't easy nor intermediate. It's hard lvl difficultly. A heat gun does help but only so much.

I followed these instructions to the letter and it was perfect! Finished it up in roughly 1 hour. Note that I was applying the JerryRigEverything Teardown skin, and I used a 3000W hair dryer. I love my Steam Deck!

Good luck around the side grips. I couldn't get it applied here without any wrinkles which was frustrating because you can then feel them when you hold the deck. Loved the skin but messing up this area meant i'll probably rip it off and live without. I notice a black skin was used on the deck which probably nicely hides any flaws.

Holy cow, Batman! They even have a real leather skin for the Steam Deck. I'm really tempted but can't decide which color, all 3 look great!

I bought a screen protector. the instructions say to come here (eventually) and nothing in the video for the screen cover...

a correction to the video, the teardown skin does not come with the top skin where the grill is.

I couldn't get the top and grip sections to look good after like 45 minutes of trying. I took the grips off and I'm going to try to live with wrinkles on the top. I did the switch without any problems though so maybe I just got unlucky.

i ordered orange one it came with screen skin i cut that to make grips that was showin cover + 4 buttons on back my deck is full of skin now

This worked great but i would recommend that when applying the back skin, you start with the valve logo then use the micro fiber cloth outwards. Otherwise you ebd up getting a tine of air bubbles from air trapped in the logo impression

I don't have a gravity gun though. And a reminder to anyone reapplying the skin.. It stretches. So Find a corner, apply it and smooth out from there. Or end up with a bubbly/folded mess. It's not as easy as they make out.

Great looking and quality Skin but by far one of the more difficult things to install .... only negative is their is no skin for the back part of the Grip and a very slick spot while hold now with the rest of the skin on ....Why cany we get that as an add-on option ?

I have found that using heat gun is a lot more convenient than a hair dryer. More heat and less flapping around. Ofcourse, be careful not to melt your SD :)

Got the black real leather Skin for my Deck an applied it. Have no reference to other non-lether skins, but my advice, heat thoroughly! The Leather is a bit stiffer (as you might expect) an thus needs a bit more heat to be maluable enough to be formed around the edges and curves. Got mine to be as perfect as I could get it to (two really minor wrinkles remain but I shrug it off as "leather, needs to be wrinkly"). Hang on, it's possible! :D

What legends I ordered my skin and in the notes I asked for a love letter. I got a post it that just said “f*ck you” I flipping love it

I tried to apply more than one skin to my steam deck... it's very difficult. And the back skin looks ugly because the side flips don't cover the entire side. I got pretty close, but it's very frustrating to try and get the bumps out of the rounded edges. It's not simple like they make it look in the video. I had the matte white skin and in the process in trying to smooth out some of the bumps from the rounded corners, the white material ended up darkening from all the heating up I did with the blow dryer. I also hate that the thickness of these skins makes the buttons feel shallower. Can't recommend these unless you have a lot of patience and confidence applying these and don't mind the buttons feeling slightly worse from it.

I’m getting the same results as a lot of people in the comments, I wonder if they don’t do installs in a lighter color like mine - in white, because the imperfections are much more obvious. The grips are the most difficult but there are so many curves on the deck, I have micro wrinkles in a few spots that won’t budge with the dryer. If I did this again I’d get another darker / patterned skin and pay a professional to do it.

After having installed my teardown skin I now know why they chose a black skin in the video. I wish installing the skin was half as easy. Taking off the skin and putting it back on the 3M paper was not as simple as depicted, the bloody screen cutout was the first to separate from the main front skin and made the whole process bloody difficult. I was lucky that I had good amount of experience in applying skins and handle disappointment/frustration in general that I managed to pull through. Would recommend the skins if you’re willing to deal with these shortcomings for the good looking deck you wanted. (Provided you didn’t screw it up).

I wouldn't call this easy. Probably 6-7/10 for difficulty. If you have a steady hand and good coordination you'll probably fare better than most, although I would say it's almost impossible to get a perfectly smooth result unless you've done something like this before. I've never applied a skin before, but I was able to do a fairly good job. I would probably rate myself a B- on the job I did, which is good enough, but don't expect this to be "easy" as the video says. Take your time. If you're hesitant, buy a cover instead.
