I applied for TRV in the month of May and was approved. I remember Sean Fraser talked about open work permits for those with ongoing Spousal applications. I am in Canada now on a Visitor visa. My wife is a PR Holder. My question is since OWP is not tied to LMIA 1. What is portal for the OWP 2. Proof of funds for both couples either in Nigeria Account or Canadian Bank or Joint account 3. Having gotten a study visa, who exactly is meant to apply for the SOWP? i. The student who got the study visa and is in Canada or… ii. The spouse who is out-side Canada? 2. The student who has the study visa still bears her surname on her international passport, admission letter & study visa, do we have a change of name (marital name) NB: marriage certificate is available or do we just go ahead and apply for the SOWP? The spouse can create an account and apply for SOWP themselves. However, if the student is about extending their study permit, they can also now apply for their SOWp. That way, it's the same application....

Most schools in Canada do not accept second class lower for masters. You can try post graduate diploma or apply for MSc in the UK. They accept second class lower.

Better to apply for one...Either SOWP or visiting....and when you apply for visiting and the spouse gets there, you can then apply for work permit (in canada)

The spouse will have to change their status from worker to student before he/she can study.

Thanks for the detailed information, Peter. My question would be: For the spouse to be eligible for Spousal Open Work Permit, is it mandatory that the student must be enrolled in a PGWP-eligible DLI? The reason I asked stemmed from my experience with someone who is currently enrolled in a DLI but not PGWP-eligible. When the spouse who is in here Canada with him went to the border to flagpole and change the visitor's visa to work permit, the result was negative.

Its better to print a recent statement the month you are to apply for the SOWP.... If you mention that you are the one sponsoring financially, you can show from $10,000 upwards....

I now got info that I should have applied for SOWP for my wife. My question is can I applied for SOWP while the visit application is still on. I am confused

Because you are in the last semester, the SOWP may not be appropriate now. It will take 3 to 5 months for them to process the SOWP, and by then, you will have graduated. Her SOWP is based on the validity of the study permit. Alternatively, after graduation and you get a skilled job, you can also apply for them. Reach out to me for more guide.
