I do a lot of practice of fake skin , I never wipe of the stencil product but I let the skin dry 35mn or so then you can tattoo and only dab not wipe to not lose the stencil I try to tattoo the more I can then wipe off with vaseline if you look carefully you can still see the stencil but not a lot but it is better when finished to avoid seeing the stencil ink in the final result. If you leave it only overnight then it will stay as you shown/.

I found that a Speed Stick Deodorant (regular, Green Cap) works really well with the synthetic skin. A small amount is good enough and It does need a day or two to fully dry but it works really well. Also, tattooing the synthetic skin on top of a roll of paper towels helps simulate a round surface like real skin, rather than just a flat surface. Hope this helps someone : )

Hey, i don't know if annyone has said this in the comments below but I wanted to share a tip for the fake skin that worked for me: sanding slightly untill all the shiny surface is gone. Do it lightly as to not mess up the fake skin too much (like barely there scratches), then clean it with alcohol and then as u said thin layer of tencil stuff, let it dry a few seconds and apply stencil. It will stick more easily, still not as perfect as in real skin but you won't get as much wetness to it! I have found your videos really helpful as someone who is still learning and growing as an artist, so thanks a lot for sharing all this with us!! All respect to you

I know this video is kinda old now but I'm going through the channel as I just finished my apprenticeship, and I have to say for fake skin (reel skin specifically, its super hard to apply stencil) I've tried a few methods, and what works best is cleaning with alcohol, applying a VERY thin layer of face powder and buffing it really well, applying stencil stuff rubbing really well and removing excess, waiting a bit for it to dry, putting two books on top of it and waiting an hour. Then it's a clear stencil and not a super faded mess lol. I also let it rest for 1h air drying after before tattooing On other fake skins I can manage with the same method as skin, just more cautious Leaving this here for anyone that might be struggling with reel skin specifically 😂

I have been using Nikko Hurtardo's stencil solution after it was recommended by another artist and it is the best one I have tried, it is actually hard to remove when you are finished, so if anyone is having issues with stencils dissapearing, as long as they follow the steps you have just shown including the double application of the solution I guarantee theyre problems will be over

Hey Dave, Great video, Thanks! When I place a stencil only on fake skin, I use speed stick instead of Stencil Stuff. Then when I place the stencil on the fake skin, I found that if i applied pressure onto the stencil, my thin lines would get too thick. Instead of applying pressure, I gently press on the stencil while holding it in place. by doing it this way, I am able to see that the stencil paper changes color without getting too saturated. I also hold one end in place while I check the opposite end for proper adhesion while gently removing the stencil from the fake skin. This way if I missed any part of the stencil, I can put it back in place to add a little more pressure.. I hope this helps others! Happy New Yer and keep up your amazing videos! 🙏 Poppy

Just recently got a tip from a guy in Germany. Works great. Sprinkle talcum powder on the fake skin. Spread it around then rub in the Stencil stuff. The talcum powder makes it much more sticky. Stencils go on much darker and more clear. Then heat the fake skin in the oven at 350° For 10-15 minutes. Once that’s done the purple Stencil is not going to move. The next tip was actually how to get the purple off once you’ve tattooed it. Use a no splash bleach and apply it over the tattoo. Let that sit 16-24 hours. It’ll pull all of the purple out of it.

I've learned tonnes from your channel so thanks a million. You're easy to understand and speak in general layman's terms. Here's a tip I've found works on fake skin. I find a hot setting on a hairdryer really effective on fake skin. Just blast the applied stencil about 2 - 3 inches away without a diffuser on a hot setting. You'll see the stencil will become paler after about 3-4 minutes. Check a corner to see if it rubs off, and if it does just do another minute and check again. I'm just a novice and only been tattooing for around 2 months on fake skin and fruit but I found this method works really well.

I do a lot of practice skins, and I always clean with green soap first as the ones I get seem to have a thin layer of something on them after that I use a tiny amount of stencil stuff or just plain dettol, if I intend to tattoo say tonight I do the stencil in the morning and by the evening it's dry enough. And I found the best thing to clean ink off of practice skin is vaseline rub it in and wipe away otherwise they get so dirty

I learned a ton on fake skin and used it almost exclusively for a year before moving on to skin. The best method I found was to use an actual , original Speed Stick and rub that over the area, then apply your stencil. The surface isn’t porous so it’ll want to wipe off quick, if you want you stencil to truly stay, put the silicone in the micro wave for a few minutes and it’ll stay for a long time and strong... if you want to remove the stencil with this process, cover the area with paper towels and SOAK them in bleach for a while. I’ve also found that soap and water doesn’t clean well on silicone, best to use straight a&d or petroleum jelly to clean the surface.

I went through an apprenticeship and even went on to work at another shop later on. Both closed down eventually ending my space to work and grow. What I find extremely difficult is finding another shop to work in as an intermediate level artist. Would it be possible for you to do a video of how best to put together a portfolio and how to choose and approach new potential shops to work at. Most shops don’t necessarily post listings on indeed so I was hoping you might have some good insights for artists like me that can perform tattoos professionally and safely but struggles to find a new place to work.

SOrry to hear about your situation man thats rough. I wont really be able to help that much as I pretty much taught myself and dont really have any experience trying to obtain an apprenticeship. However I do know what I would look for in an apprentice if I where to take on one. SO I could do a video explaining what I would be looking for from a potential apprentice and what I would like to see from their portfolio. when we apply stencils should we stretch the skin if it’s in a wrinkly area?? ie finger, elbow or just straight up apply it it?? because i did a tattoo on myself on my forearm bellow my palm & i think it would’ve looked better if i didn’t apply it on stretched skin

HI! Great video! I practice on fake skin, and I have always problem with that, it dont depends on stencil, I left on it for a day but its still messed up, very hard to work with it, its very hard to clean the fake skin too, later I draw on the skin with pen and it kept there better ;)

What I also do with a fake skin, after applying pressure, is put a alcohol on a piece of cotton, and the apply it a little bit over the stencil. With this trick the stencil detaches better. But it's just a bit of alcohol and not too much pressure with the cotton.

As usual, super clear and useful explanations. I did the mistake to apply on bent inner lower arm, the client (more of a friend for a guinea pig actually) was happy because when he looks at it, the form is straight, but when he relaxes, others can see the bending... For sure, I wont do that mistake ever again ! Do you dispose the marker every client ? Any tips to wash the stencil on fake skin ? Thanks for your work
@ArtSomething
@ArtSomething 4 жыл бұрын
Great to hear im not the only one who made that mistake lol!! Yes I dispose of them each time. I buy them in bulk so its not to bad but thats part of being as sterile as possible when possible. I dont have any good tips for that one Its pretty tough to get those stencils off the fake skin once they dry pretty solid. Thanks for watching Dayannah I appreciate the support!! 🤘🤘

on the fake skin i would of used a little less stencil stuff maybe 2-4 small drops doesn't mess up the stencil itself and dry's a lot quicker love the videos very helpful :)

Sounds like I need to try some reelskins as I have heard from a few people that they are the best. How you like Electrum? @@ArtSomething no problem dude, reelskin is the best I've tried so far, a little more expensive but worth it. And to be honest I've only used Electrum so can not say if it's better than any others, but maybe I will switch just to get a idea. Thanks for the reply and keep the vids coming I'm really enjoying the content you put out 🤙

Sucks for me on fake skin the lines bleed out and have to do a lot of free hand to get it right but I hate fake skin period. It bubbles up you can't stretch it and the ink smears and stains, also any stencil you want to wipe off is almost impossible when dry. Good video

I just suscribed because i like how detailes your are. Youre clearly experienced and have learned well from your mistakes. Example those line with the skin markernis genius because as long as they align, that means that stencil will be exactly where you projected it to be. Also the stencil stuff cream being tacky thats just an artist being observant. I myself am no tattoo artist but im investing to start because ive always wanted ive got about 5 tattoos under my belt. Which for an amateur with shitty tools and implements arent soo bad. Any way im a master barber and the way you explain everything is bliss to me because im meticulous with my art work and canvas as well. So keep posting good stuff. Thumba up broskie

Great videos! Thanks for your work! You're saving SOOOO MANY CLIENTS out there and thousands will never know. I'm wondering would it help, when after you've applied stencil stuff to skin, to mist and slightly dampen the stencil paper so that it's more workable as you slowly place it? Very curious and have to wait until my paper arrives in the mail lol.
