Hi Rene! Wow, that took a long time for you to get your D7 visa approved. I'm in Lisbon now for a few months, and thought I might apply to get a NIF and open a bank account while here. I've googled to see how to get my NIF, and some people say to just go to Financas office and line up to get it, and some say you need to make an appointment before you go. Not sure if you know which way is correct?

hi, welcome to Portugal. you need to make an appointment with them, usually a few weeks or a month later, and USUALLY the office is not in Lisbon. AND you need to have a local to go with you to sign the form (not a representative, but kind of ) SO, if you have time in Portugal and have someone go with you, yes, you can apply the NIF in personal in Portugal. Line up? haha, might happen if you know which office in Portugal is not busy. (no chance in Lisbon or Porto) you can also do it online by some services provider such as Bordr, I guess you have heard of it when you search for NIF. with my link here www.bordr.com/?via=travellingwithrene you can get USD10 discount.

@@travellingwithrene no is not 5 years if you are applying for citizenship it's usually going to take around 7-9 years depending on the situation. NO ONE naturalize after 5 years. that's just when you can apply

Hi rene Pls tel me that when you apply d7 visa prior you open bank acc in portugal and apply d7 or when you get the visa and reached to portugal and apply bank acc
