Venetian plastering is a skill that has to be mastered by taking a professional class to learn the techniques of the wrist when holding the trowel and applying Venetian. How the wrist moves have a lot to do with plastering correctly and effectively. Constant constant practice, trial and error before anyone can become a real Venetian Plaster.. The drying time in between coats is also very very important..This process cannot be rushed.

Glad it was helpful! We really love our plaster bathroom. We waited overnight between coats just to make sure it was fully dry. You don't really have to wait a full 24hrs like we did but you do want to make sure it's completely dry before doing the second coat.

Well made and instructive video! My only questions would be how much it roughly took to do that size of a room, and did you have your plaster tinted, or was that the natural color?
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video! For the typical two coat process, the coverage will be right around 8-10 sqf per kg. Our small bathroom had a wall space of around 80sqf so we needed 8 kg of plaster. Yes, we had the plaster tinted. The company can match any standard paint chip color so that's a super easy way to pick out a color. Let me know if you have any other questions! ✌️

Loved the video, thank you! I understand I need to prime the wall before applying mud BUT my walls have a slight texture to them, do I need to also apply a thin layer of product somewhere in the beginning (before or after primer) to create a smooth surface prior to plastering?
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll 3 жыл бұрын
It's ok if there's a little bit of texture but I'd definitely knock down any high spots. Ideally, you'd skim coat your walls to make them smooth before starting as to not use more Venetian plaster than you have to since it is expensive. If you don't you'll be filling in all the texture and holes with Venetian Plaster which is fine but I like filling that all in with something way cheaper. If you choose to skim coat the walls smooth, I would use a quarts primer after to make sure the Venetian plaster has a good anchor to lock on to. Hopefully, this answers your question. Let me know either way.

Thank you so much for the video's on this technique! One of my concerns before I start is that I completely took off the old paint down to dry wall on a few of our walls because it was peeling at the bottom. One of the walls is not peeling at all so wasn't going to try to take off the old paint. Will the walls look different even if I prime all with the FirenzeColor Quartz Primer? Should I sand down the wall that was left painted first? I hope that made sense. You may not know but thought I would ask.
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll 3 жыл бұрын
If the painted wall is smooth, it won't make a difference. The main reason you'd want to sand it down would be if it was bumpy or was peeling. As long as you use a good primer, you can plaster over a painted wall. Hope that answers your question.

I appreciated your tutorial. In your experience, does the leftover plaster store for long? I need about 2liters for a small project and will later use it on another project months down the line. I’m wondering if I’m better off buying 2l or 5l now.
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll 3 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! In my experience, the plaster will thicken up a little bit over time. Obviously, it all depends on how well you can seal the plaster back off. To keep it sealed nicely, I would put some saran wrap over to plaster in the bucket making sure it's touching the plaster and make sure the lid is on as tight as it can be. You can also add a little bit more water and remix it when you use the plaster. Just make sure not to add too much as it will alter to consistency. It's doable but if your worried about it, I'd just get the 2L.

Do you have advice for a LARGE wall, 12' high and 13 ' wide? From what I can glean from the instructional video is that all steps (coat 1 and 2 and burnishing) need to be completed while the wall is still somewhat damp. I doubt I can complete the 3 steps and during the "open" time for the product. Can a wall be coated in sections...or will that result dry, hard lines showing up.
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll Жыл бұрын
During your coats you can actually mist your wall with a bit of water. The main thing you need to keep wet is your edge so when you apply into your edge, it’s wet. The other step that needs to be somewhat moist is during your burnishing. This again can be misted to keep it wet. Typically big projects will have more than one person working it but it is doable with a single person. I’d make sure your room isn’t overly hot and keep your working edge moist with water. Hope this helps.
@davoyan777

yes you can do it in small sections, 3'x3' while doing second coat and burnishing, and no you will not have hard lines. practice on a small piece of drywall and see the results,, practice makes perfect always

What is it like pulling the tape off after? I'd assume it's not like paint, as plaster would not tear off with tape; so what's your method for clean tape removal?
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll Жыл бұрын
This plaster doesn't go on super thick, so it pulls off pretty clean. If you have thicker plaster you may want to give yourself a slight gap when applying it. The main thing is to make sure your edges arn't accidentally getting too thick and going over the tape too much. Let me know if this helps or answers your question.

Finding the right person could be hard since it's not a very common practice. That being said, there is usually someone local that does it. Hey mate how long do you leave the wax on before you polish it ?
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll Жыл бұрын
Not long for this specific product (protection soap). Essentially I leave it on till it doesn’t look like any more is being absorbed by the plaster, 15ish minutes, then buff it. Depends on the plaster type and temp. Actual wax might be a bit different on timing.

I bought a plaster that can get really shiny. Can I skip the Burnish step to keep my matte look?
@AlongForItAll
@AlongForItAll 3 жыл бұрын
I've never tried skipping the burnishing step. Burnishing less tends to keep the plaster less shinny so I'd assuming skipping it all together would keep it more matte. What I would do, is test it will a small amount of plaster on another piece of wood to try it out before committing to it on your entire project. Let me know how it goes!

You should prime. Skim coat and then quartz-prime before working the marmorino, As per mamorino italiano standards, your walls have to be perfectly flat and primed as any any existing imperfections (ridges, cracks and dents) in the wall will come up later when applying marmorino.
