I think Louis is really good at visualizing the thought process the typical human goes through in most daily situations. He's really good at seeing both sides of the picture which is how he's able to write stuff like this. It is surprisingly difficult to create an authentic piece of dialogue or interaction, one that doesn't seem rushed, and because of Louis' style he's allowed to lower the pace or speed it up when he needs to, not like other mainstream shows where it's 100 mph all the time straight to the punchline. Life and people are meandering and everything doesn't always make sense. It's a relief to finally have some shows that reflect that.
@ChrisTanner7 жыл бұрын
Ah, yea, I think you're exactly right. I remember a joke of his where he talks about sitting in 1st class of a plane and he sees an Army personnel board the plane -- a young guy -- and how in his head he thinks about the idea of offering up his seat, but of course never does. I think stuff like this really shows his knowledge of the inside dialogue we often have with ourselves.

The reason that it's funny is because a human knows both sides of the conversation. They know what it's like to be in the weird time of love and most if not all men know how it feels to be Louie trying to get someone out of their league. But like all comedy it is exaggerated like how the joke being on Louie is. For something to be funny the joke has to be "at" someone, in this case it's how we laugh at Louie for being so incredibly unconfident towards himself. That is where the jokes come from.

I love the way they hold that painfully long, level two-shot while Louie shoots his shot, but then when he's done the camera switches to low angle close ups of both characters in quite shallow depth of field making them really pop against the background. It's like it's saying, here are two people on roughly the same level, and then Louie completes his proposition and suddenly they're both feeling kinds of "bigger", and "better" about themselves. Or we're seeing each one as the other sees them: kind of high-status, individuals of worth. I like that.

When I see this I can't help but think of how this storyline ends, and, as per usual for Louis, it's absolutely heart-breaking and devastating

Parker Posey's reactions while he's talking helped really sell this scene. Damn shame Louie got lumped in with Weinstein and Cosby, can't wait for his return!

he didnt get lumped in, he earned it.

@@butch2811 YES they ARE 2 very different things, however he was doing it to women opening for his act for one thing. and its still creepy ass behavior. he did what he did and women dont tend to like it. therefore he got outed for being a creepy weirdo, vs just doing what he does in this very video.
