I'm convinced that the cause of it being cancelled was just the final skit of the show. I mean imagine being in a room with Louie C.K. and he awkwardly just starts beatin it, with him not realizing doing that was inappropriate and his career collapsing because of it. That sounds exactly like something that would have happened in the show.

maybe some comedians are able to turn it on at a dime regardless of the circumstance, but it's unreasonable to expect that with how dry Lynch is here, there's no relaxed and friendly vibe whatsoever, and I think the absurdity of the situation is the humor of this skit. If he were being warm and friendly that alone would have made it far more conducive to getting into the comedic spirit.

Louie’s actual standup is just about as good as anyone’s - and he’s got a really special skill with being hilarious… But he’s also got a ridiculously brilliant skill with creating this kind of excruciating tension of awkward, uncomfortable dramatic moments - the genius of a comedian who can stay in those moments without resolving them or giving his audience a silly way out, where the tension is broken. Like in Horace and Pete. The emotions are just so raw; it’s not exactly a pleasure, but it’s absolutely worthwhile.

Stand up comedians find a niche. Late night host appeal to the lowest common denominator. They need a massive audience to be successful. Look at Jimmy Fallon, he has a massive audience of idiots and morons but is the least funny of all late night hosts. Louis C.K. appeals to a different audience; you're right, his comedy is meaningful and hilarious but it doesn't appeal to as many people.

Dude Louie is so fucking good it's scary. This scene is so dark it feels like there's no way he could turn it around. Then he does something so akward I couldn't help but bust out laughing-to which Lynch replies "you just bought yourself another week"....The subtext being that they were literally making him dance like a clown ...... Brilliant

m I o . o I m Probably is most of the time, though I saw some footage of him verbally cuffing a young worker on his set who must have been screwing off. This exchange happened in his sternest and coldest voice. "Hey! You! What's the matter with you?" "I'm just --" "On drugs!? You on drugs?" "No, I don't use---" "Stay off the drugs! And work when you're here! Alright?" "A-Alright..." Like his movies, there is warmth, but there is darkness too.

Louie has said in an interview that he specifically wanted Lynch to do everything exactly like he would normally and not "act a character", so this is pretty much what he's actually like. The difference with real life is ofc that Lynch is never artificially put in a position to look like an asshole the way he comes off here. That being said his actors love him, but even they would admit that he's made them extremely frustrated on occasion. Watts has even cried on set several times. Though I really don't know how can you take him too seriously considering he's always shouting through a megaphone lol

This is funny on about 7 different levels from start to finish. There is so much tension, condensation, insecurity, fear and awkward humor all going on at one time. Fucking Brilliant! Lynch was PERFECT for this!!! He's plays a blithering idiot who actually believes and is treated like a true talk show svengali. I love his very academic list of "non-funny" hosts at the outset. He's correct you just never thought you'd hear someone actually verbalize that shit! Also, "See the funny! Make me laugh! GO!" "YOU JUST BOUGHT YOURSELF ANOTHER WEEK! GO HOME AND GET SOME REST!" ROFL!
