If you have a narcissist or a boss that's somewhat on the spectrum, you can forget about being direct like this. The management makes the rules and they break the rules. So better off looking for a different position out of their realm or outside the company.

I struggle with seriously struggle with speaking but I have to talk to my boss about career advancement. When I’m confident, my ugly voice sounds intimidating and angry. When I’m nervous, I sound like I don’t believe what I’m saying. Regardless, I have to find an answer.
