Very helpful video I bought my Tama kit 6 years ago and only played them 3 times I had a very bad year in 2016 I had numerous seizure and was doliagnosed with lupus and crohns disease all of this in the same year lost my job my house was foreclosure and my car got repoded couldn't work any longer disability took me close to 3 years to approved so I've been in total remission now for 4 years life is great for me now I set up my drums last week and I totally forgot how to do the hi hats after playing for years before my sicknesses due to my seize activity lost my cognitive memory so this vide helped out alit thank and thank God for making me better ❤❤❤❤❤

I used to configure my clutch just like this. I hit my hats hard. After years of the bottom nut back-spinning and coming loose, which frees the top hat from the clutch completely, I took one of the thinner locking nuts and moved it to the bottom- problem solved. Finger tight is enough and you’ll still need pliers to break it loose. Also- experiment a bit with the tension between the pads on the top cymbal: tighter grip=tighter sound, looser grip=looser sound. There’s also the angle adjustment screw beneath the washer. It’ll angle the bottom hat so that when you clap them it’ll eliminate the air dam which will deaden the clap. You can also play with the direction of that angle up- towards you or away, as well as the depth of the angle. There’s a lot to setting them up, but it’s all really simple. Experiment with it and you’ll find that sweet spot you’re looking for

The video mentions that cymbals should never touch metal; however, this is exactly what is happening when a top hi-hat is held in a normal clutch assembly. Over time this can cause wear on the hole in the top hi-hat, potentially changing its sound. My personal preference is to fit a piece of rubber tubing over the screw thread so that it finishes above where the bottom nut will sit when full tight, so that the upper hi-hat is protected from contact with metal in the same way that a normal cymbal would be.
