I know it's very late to the video, but how does that procedure change for iso layout and the bigger enter key? Especially how would you know that the PCB works with the intended iso layout and stabs for the enter. Thanks!
@skiwithpete
@skiwithpete 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, yeah, the iso enter has the stabilizer oriented vertically (vs all of the horizontally oriented ones I'm putting on this board). Most hot-swap boards are one or the other. Most solder boards are both. Hope that helps. If you're still confused, I really recommend the 1upkeyboards Discord.

Hi man, What does 625u 60 87 stab set, or 6u 104 stab set, or 7u 60 87 stab set mean when you're trying to buy stabilizers for your keyboard?
@skiwithpete
@skiwithpete 3 жыл бұрын
So u size is the width of the keycaps. A single keycap is one u. Some spacebars are 6u, 6.25u or 7u. And depending on the layout of your bottom row, only one will fit. The 60, 87, 104 is the size of your keyboard. Depending on the size tells you the number of stabilizers you'll need. For example on a 104 you need stabilizers under your number pad 0, enter and plus keys. On a 60, you don't have those. Make sense?
@eatingpips

@@eatingpips Yes, a 60% set is all that's needed as there are no more stabilizers needed on a TKL (everything that's extra is 1u).

is it worth spending 20 bucks for fancy screw-in stabs over clipping generic MX style clip-in stabs? I'm planning on band-aiding and lubing regardless.
@skiwithpete
@skiwithpete 3 жыл бұрын
It's a lot about personal preference. All of the screw in stabilizers have a smaller top hole than the clip in. So there's less noise without lube. But with lube, the size of that hole matters less. Though I don't bandaid... If I did I would absolutely get screw in.

It's made too complicated by nerds who are talking about making a 0.1% difference. Before the pandemic, I'd attended meetups with different types of stabilizers and challenged "experts" to identify them... All that to say, don't stress about it. Here's an idea, buy a board based on hot swap switches and that way you can disassemble and upgrade your stabs at a later date.
