A few months ago our utility sub had a brand new laborer lose half a thumb exactly like you're talking about, sticking his fingers in a spreader bar during assembly

We had a guy lose half a thumb from a manhole 10 x 10 sheald foot. they had the shield feet up, pulled the pin and was his hand at the hole and the foot came crashing down and the foot pined his thumb between the foot and the shield.

Way faster and easier to put these together with the forks on the loader, not to mention safer. Cool video tho

hell yea they are i hate doing them with a hoe but sometimes thats all you got on hand

Depends on the operator on the rig. I have seen bad things happen using a loader.

I have seen one hit the brakes to hard and the shield slid off the forkes. another time a guy dropped the forkes to low and the shield slid off the side after hitting the spreader bar. But I have put them together myself with a loader too. The issue with this one was it is too heavy for the loader to do safely.
