@@BroomysGarage I probably should have reached out before I started buying things 3months ago. Now basically everything uses slightly different types of threads/connectors... NPT on fuel pressure reg, quick connect on factory hard line, AN on filter and Rail etc. Not the end of the world but need to be really careful with fittings and adapters now, and review hose diameter for flow targets

Hey there! I really enjoyed your fantastic KZfaq video, especially since it's from an Aussie like me! I'm keen on upgrading my Toyota Prado diesel from those stock rubber clamp-style hoses to AN/PTFE hoses. Do you happen to have any videos demonstrating how to fit the AN/PTFE fittings from either the fuel filter end or from the OEM steel fuel pipe end? Cheers, Ethan from Perth, WA.

Is it necessary to tighten ptfe fittings right until they’re flush together? I’ve tightened mine as tight as I dare, they’re not flush but feel like they’ll strip if I go any tighter. Great content.

No, it will differ from brand to brand, but normally a tight with a fingernail width for any fitting is adequate

Hi m8 ive got -an hose can i install it to aliminium barb if i tap a thread on to the barb enabling me to screw on a - an fitting ? Its a vx commodore if u r familiar with the vehicle im wanting to install a pwr stering cooler to the barbs @ the front of the bumper! Thnxs 4 the vid.
@BroomysGarage
@BroomysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mic, a barb is normally sized based on rubber hose sizes (ie 5/16, 3/8”, 1/2”, etc). -AN hoses are not this size, so you cannot use them with a normal type of barb you would find on a car, or brass type one from a hydraulic shop. If you tap a thread to run a fitting that can screw in that has a -AN nipple, then you can screw a -AN hose end to it.

Hi, good video but dumb question, ain't it possible to put an AN fitting with a rubber hose ? Cuse i can't really find a SH fitting (push lock) for a rubber hose 5mm inner diameter. (I can find a SH10, but it's 6mm so not really it'll fit a 5mm inner diameter hose)
@BroomysGarage
@BroomysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the smallest push on rubber hose -an fittings are ‘-4’, which is 1/4” hose (6.4mm). Braided hose -AN fittings use compression and cut into the hose to keep the hose on the fitting, so if you use rubber hose with a braided -an hose fitting it will most likely cut into the hose, split it and blow off. If you have a 5mm hose, you will have to use a barb fitting used for vacuum lines.
@MrGeoffrey1998

@@BroomysGarage hi again, thanks so much for the explanations, so yeah i'll definitely look at the barb fittings or even a bigger hose cause i'll have to disconnect it from the compressor very often, so quick connector ! Thanks again !

I have been struggling with something you mention. I have -6AN Earls power steering hose for a return line from the P/S rack to a standard power steering pump reservoir. The hose is just a touch to tight to fit it over the barb on the reservoir. How do i fix this.. The AN hose will not fit over the barb..
@BroomysGarage
@BroomysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
That is because the barb will be a standard hose size, ie 5/16”, 3/8”, 1/2” ID etc, and AN hoses are not this size (always slightly smaller than corresponding standard rubber hose size) You will not be able to fix this other than using an AN to AN male flare joiner, running the braided hose to one side and then a small run of normal rubber hose to the reservoir.

@@BroomysGaragewow thanks for the response. This is the first time I ever worked on power steering. Since this is a return line, not a high pressure can I use a rubber hose instead of the braided hose? If yes what kind of hose do I use? Also, the rack return port has AN fittings at the rack, what fittings do I use on rubber hose?

Nice info, but all of the edits at the hardest parts are not showing us the most difficult stages. I get that it makes it longer and it is a bit ugly, but these fittings (especially ptfe) can be super difficult to assemble and seeing the struggle is an important part of understanding these and really the most important.
